I grew up in Troy in the 80's. Great place to be as a kid. I did driver's ed through the high school in the winter of 91. My very first lesson with my instructor on public roads was in heavy snow.
When I asked him "are you sure this is a good idea?" he replied with, "no better time to learn than now, with me in the car". He was right.

I want to thank you for the wonderful and entertaining videos that you have posted about living in Michigan. You were very helpful and instrumental while I was in the housing market.
It was through your videos (and one other significant persons videos) that I was able to understand some important aspects about the home buying process. The 2021 housing market was very tough and tougher for a V.A. buyer. Your videos helped me to understand how to navigate in that difficult market. One of the most important things that I learned in your videos is how Proposition A works.
I was able to ensure that my estimated escrow was closer to what the uncapped property taxes would be and avoid having a significant house note increase from underestimated property taxes in my closing disclosure. I think that your videos provide a wonderful and entertaining public service to prospective homebuyers.

Winters do suck in Michigan. But it’s not snowing 24/7. Central Michigan has been excellent with clearing the snow from the road so it’s dry and safe to drive on 90% of the time.
Also, pot holes aren’t that bad in central Michigan. You get the bad pot holes in the neglected areas of Detroit area.
Nobody rakes snow off their roof. 😅
I live in a house built in 1870, the house has rock solid insulation.
I’ve lived in Michigan my entire life, and the things that should be mentioned is that we get a lot of snowfall sometimes. And it gets under 20 degrees Fahrenheit which is the moment you question why you live here! Lol

It's me again One more thing. Ice damning the biggest problem is having a lack of insulation in the attic if it's not properly insulated and ventilated the roof will not react to the snow and the freeze thaw like it should so during the day when the sun is on the roof it will actually heat up and melt the snow which runs under the snow and out the bottom when it gets to the eave or the overhang of your roof it freezes you can't see it and you won't know until it builds up but if your attic is well insulated your chances are low this will ever happen and as always have a great day from your local Michigan home inspector. You need to have a "winter survival kit" in your vehicle, too. You could be stranded on or off a highway. On a highway, in a traffic jam, or off the highway, in a snowbank. The Detroit area averages around 42 inches of snow per season. We avoid many of the lake effect storms that seem to hit our western side of the state. And we have the HIGHEST auto insurance rates in the country. Not uncommon for people in Detroit (if they have insurance) to pay up to $700-$800 PER MONTH for car insurance.

You won't have to worry about keeping your gloves in the glove box in Michigan you will probably have them in your pockets of your coat and if you're one of those people who don't wear coats start because you could end up parking your car in a ditch on the side of the freeway and you can't run it cuz the engine compartment is jam full of snow because you just went into the ditch and the car won't run and you're going to freeze if you don't have a coat like I said in my other comment common sense it is what the world should run on but as we know lots of people don't have it. I'll be fine they all say until they're not. In Michigan we don't drive little vehicles around here at least not where I am it's all gas guzzling 6000, 7000 lb vehicles four-wheel drive big tires except in the winter big old wide tires don't handle well in winter. Yeah we're obnoxious. Really I'm not a negative person I love winter there's nothing better than snow blowing 8 10 in of snow it's a blast and besides it's a whole lot easier to stay warm snow blowing than it is to stay cool cutting the grass cuz there's nothing worse than your neighbors getting pissed off at you cuz you're mowing the lawn and you're underwear And like always have a great day.

Well this video is it's going to start out on the east side of the state and I live on the west side of the state it's like two totally different worlds now this year the east side kind of got smacked up a bit that would be 2022 but normally they get less than we do now I live in the Grand rapids area and we get somewhere around 75 in of snow every year there's a place up in the upper peninsula it's called dodgeville they get somewhere around 170 to 180 inches a year sometimes more they don't have winter they have a way of life so is winter cold in Michigan It is for the first two weeks after that anything above 28 feels like it's kind of warm outside and a good thing a lot of the winners in Michigan especially the lower half we warm up to freezing or 35 or 38 during the day once we get past January so it's not a big deal. Driving it's called common sense if you don't know what you're doing learn because here in Michigan if it snows you don't close down the town. 9 inches of snow means you leave 10 minutes early for work and I'm not joking do you want to still move here we don't really want you but if you want to come come have a good day.

The best thing we can do is tell people how horrible Michigan is so we don't turn into one big Austin.

Stop complaining, in Northern Wisconsin we get 40+ inches of snow

You're numbers must be wrong. Northern Wisconsin should get way more than that. Detroit averages 33 inches a year. My hometown in Michigan averaged 62 inches a year, and most of northern Michigan averages 100+ in. I kind of miss the snow.

I think you have a typo here 40 plus inches seems a little low for northern Wisconsin Grand rapids averages about 75 inches a year. This year alone 2021 2022 Grand Haven has like 74 in and Grand rapids has 64 in as of mid-February.

59 yrs old. Born and raised here in Michigan. Detroit sucks. Detroit is the worst part of Michigan, is the reason we can't progress . If you are moving to Michigan do not move to Detroit. SW Michigan is nicer, cleaner , less crime, just better all around.
