I already get tears in my eyes when I see how the sky changes color and the sunset comes. It is like the twilight of old people. One of the most beautiful scenes that Hollywood has ever shot.

I always choke up with this song. How wonderful it would be to have such memories. This brings many tears to my eyes.

    "Am I getting old?"
    "No. Not you."
That is the single most important line I take from this song every time I hear it. The details never matter. If you remember being together, after all that time, then you really do remember it well.

The only bit the old boy accurately emembers is about himself ! This does not , in any way detract from the pure magic of this scene !

This is the one scene that I will forever love Hermione Gingold. She wasn't a traditionally beautiful woman but some people carry themselves in such a way...or their personality radiates in such a way that you cannot help but love them. if only we could teach our youth that there are more ways to be beautiful than appearance.

Oh I so agree with you. To me she was a beautiful woman. Love this scene with Maurice Chevalier

This has always been one of my favorite songs and scenes ever since I was a child and saw 'Gigi.' And now here I am married 27 years to the love of my life and I share it with her. Ah yes, I remember it well.

A classic scene from ' Gigi' , Lerner and Loewe . The scene may have been written with Maurice and Hermione in mind ; brilliant !

This is not about how silly he is because he remembers all the details wrong(maybe a little). (And my interpretation is confirmed by the lady's response). It that he remembers the vastly more important thing, which is how he felt at the time, which you can see on his face, and later in the song, on the lady's face as well.

You know what is funny to think of the parallel in facial expressions between Maurice Chevalier and Desi Arnaz. The other thing that comes to mind is Maurice (Samanthas father on Bewitched). Im surprised that Maurice and Endora never did a skit on this song. ...although they did come close. In the episode when Maurice comes to meet Darren, he said to endora how wonderful it was when they were young and in love in Brussels. Endora says "We were never in Brussels Maurice!" Maurice responds "Well maybe your right. You always did have a memory like a steel trap." Endora laughs. It was nice but nowhere near the caliber that it should have been.

    Paroles
    HONOR?:
    We met at nine
    We met at eight
    HONOR?:
    I was on time
    No, you were late
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
    We dined with friends
    We dined alone.
    HONOR?:
    A tenor sang
    A baritone.
    HONOR?:
    I remember it well.
    That dazzling April moon!
    There was none that night.
    And the month was June
    HONOR?:
    That's right, that's right.
    It warms my heart
    To know that you
    Remember still
    The way you do
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
How often I've thought of that Friday--
    Monday--
    HONOR?:
Night, when we had our last rendezvous
And somehow I foolishly wondered if you might
By some chance be thinkin' of it too
    That carriage ride
    You walked me home
    HONOR?:
    You lost a glove
    I lost a comb
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
    That brilliant sky!
    We had some rain
    HONOR?:
    Those Russian songs
    From sunny Spain
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
You wore a gown of gold
    I was all in blue
    HONOR?:
    Am I getting old?
    Oh no, not you!
    How strong you were
    How young and gay
    A prince of love
    In every way
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
Compositeurs : Alan Jay Lerner / Frederick Loewe

Whenever anyone says that: we tend to forget, they didn't make many like it _then_, either. For every Gigi there are a hundred Torn Curtain/Plan 9/Star/1942 ...

      @@G6JPG what?!

    • @G6JPG
      @G6JPG 2 роки тому

@@waitwhat6882 Torn Curtain: a Hitchcock, starring Julie Andrews and Paul Newman - both acted very well (JA is a good actress: a lot more than Poppins and SoM), but didn't work somehow. Plan 9 from Outer Space - considered by many the worst film ever made (didn't help one of the main stars, Bela Lugosi, dying part way through making it, though the producer Ed Woods' decision to use his dentist to stand in was, er, unusual). Star - another Julie Andrews - a life of Gertrude Lawrence; again not her fault, just never made it. 1942: one of Steven Spielberg's few failures (probably as showed America being other than world-saving in WW2). So my point - whenever I hear "they don't make them like this any more", is that it sometimes is said in a way that implies that once all films were good - but in fact, good films have _always_ been the exception (and we do make _some_ good ones these days), but we tend to forget the bad ones (with the exception of Plan 9, which is a cult classic), and view the past as a golden age. Applies to much more than film, of course - e. g. pop music.
