    What I liked about this video is he got right to the point of the differences, and spoke in a clear understandable voice. He also did a short demonstration of how they both work. Great video! 👍

    I bought the TH Platform and love it. I had looked at the Misti and didn’t like the look of it - it looked flimsy and cheap, and when I saw the price, I said to myself, “forget it.” I know a lot of people swear by the Misti but I think the TH one is better all round - robust, reasonably priced, easy to use, and it looks much nicer! This is a good review.

    Bought my first stamping platform today. Amazon Prime £23.60 Tim Holtz Stamping platform. I researched all the others and for me the Tim Holtz was decently priced and it had the best stamping area in my opinion. Thanks for doing this video. So glad I made the right choice. Happy crafting everyone.

    I do have a Tim Holtz version. Love it.
    I never even looked at the Misti....over priced for one. Two....I dont buy from people claiming to be Christian, throwing it out there to get business then turning around and being so very rude and hateful to people via social media, etc. Being a Christian shouldn't need to be said, people should see it in your actions and how you treat others.

    Thanks so much for your comparison video of these two products. I’m just getting back into stamping and had no idea which one would be better? I agree that the Tim Holt’s stamp platform is more practical and definitely more price friendly.

    Happened by your video. Great review. I knew nothing of either products so the video was very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I have one question for anyone - would the TH Platform work with rubber stamps on wood? Of course, take the stamp off the wood.

    • @OffKilterCrafterIan
      @OffKilterCrafterIan  4 роки тому +1

      I don’t know for sure, but I think there is a good chance it will work.

    • @kiavonne
      @kiavonne 4 роки тому +1

      Edit: I misunderstood and thought you wanted to stamp on wood. If you carefully remove the stamp from the wood base, yes, it should work just fine. There are products out there to help convert wood base stamps to just rubber cling stamps. My original reply: If the wood is thin (very) then yes. I used it to stamp a small sentiment on a small - and thin - wood embellishment. I used the "rubber" side of the platform lid. I also used a small glue dot to hold the embellishment in place on the platform, then rubbed it off when I was done.

      Make sure your stamp platform is on the correct side. I know sometimes when I don’t have it placed on the right side of the door it won’t stamp evenly. Also if there’s an air bubble trapped underneath the stamp that can sometimes affect the quality of stamping as well.

    I think it's a shame that My Sweet Petunia has been able to get away with claiming that the MISTI is an original invention. Although printing presses have been around for centuries, a man named J.B. Lieberman is the one who actually invented the personal printing press (which is essentially what a MISTI is) and called it the Herity Press. J.B. Lieberman was actually such a purveyor of personal printing that he wrote a book about printing as a hobby, and even had a printing club. He even went so far as to have his personal printing press patented, and you can still view the patent (along with J.B.'s detailed diagrams of the press, so you can see how obviously similar the MISTI is to it) on Google's patent database. Iliana, a.k.a. My Sweet Petunia, has basically stolen his invention and claimed it as her own, and then was able to get a court (who is undoubtedly ignorant of the original invention) to support her claim. All of this in addition to her reputation regarding her unprofessional treatment of customers in the past, which I will not delve into right now. Long story long, I will never buy anything from her.

      i think what is remarkable about the fact is that sweet petunia brought back a good invention and modernizied to get into the world of crafts, and i enjoyed it every time i use it. that`s what is good about it, and above all that is a wonderful tool. Instead of worrying who invented it, why don`t people invent or re - invent other tools we may use as well.....

    • @elizabetheddy1073
      @elizabetheddy1073 5 років тому +11

      Allegra, I totally agree with you! There are other companies like Stampin’ Up! that have also made stamping tools similar to Tim Holtz and the Misti!! I don’t understand why sweet petunia isn’t suing Stampin’ Up too?! LOL 😂 I think that the owner of The Misti is upset because Tim Holtz’s price is so much more affordable, bigger and better than what she “invented”!!! It’s ridiculous, everyone in this industry and others come up with similar stamps, inks ect. Tim Holtz rocks, he has a great personality, and has come up with such amazing products! 💗👍🏼 Like they all say, “karma’s a bitch!” What goes around comes around! Thanks for the info, I had no idea about the original inventor?! PS This just goes to show you how much class Tim Holtz actually has! Maybe that’s why he’s so much more successful than she’ll ever be!😊💗👍🏼

    Thanks for this video! I saw the Misti in a video some months back and wanted one but the price.....!!!! So I found an online video that shared how to use an IKEA frame to do a stamping tool yourself. So I made one ( I am Swedish after all;-)!) and have really liked using it. The cost came down to around ten dollars. The problem, as with the Misti comes when I want to stamp on larger papers. So I will definitely go for a TH platform now thanks to your clear and good review!

    Can we stamp on a journal with them? Thank you

    • @OffKilterCrafterIan
      @OffKilterCrafterIan  4 роки тому +1

      It would take some being creative. You would need to fold the rest of the journal back so that one one page goes underneath the door. You would not be able to put the full journal under the door and have it close all the way. I hope that helps answer your question.

      @canadaverydry 4 роки тому +2

      @@OffKilterCrafterIan It is so pity! Tim Holtz could have been created something for the journals! I love stamping on it! Thank you for answering me ;)

    • @kiavonne
      @kiavonne 4 роки тому +2

      @@canadaverydry It really would depend on the size of the journal. If you can get it under the lid without trouble and in a position it accordingly, it would work. A thick or hardcover journal would not. So, using a cahier/pocket or thin, flexible journal should work.

    When I first saw the MISTI online, I had no prior information to affect my opinion of the tool. My first thought was that it was a great idea, but then I saw the price. I believed that it was grossly overpriced for a plastic tool and refused to buy it. Then the TH one came out! In my opinion, his design is superior, and his price point is what I would expect for a tool with that size and spcification. I bought his and love it!

    Useful video, thanks, even though I ordered the TH stamping tool last week from Amazon and it’s coming from the UK, it’s good to see a video reinforcing my belief that I made the right choice. My TH stamping tool is arriving this week and I can’t wait. I’m terrible at stamping with acrylic blocks. I’ve dropped them too many times on to my ink blended backgrounds with an inked stamp attached, and ruined the background, or the image or sentiment I stamped was incomplete and I find it impossible to restamp an image with acrylic blocks. On principle I refused to buy a Misti because the company sued competitors, and the ridiculous price point also put me off. Two pieces of plastic with a hinge for almost twice the price of a TH platform, is absurd. Anyway, no more stamping errors for me!

    Am laughing at the sour reviews from Misti users not that I blame them since for the price of their 1 Misti they could get 2 Tonic/Tim Holtz platforms, oh BUT they'd buy the Tonic/Tim Holtz one if it was carried in a store with 40% off coupon. You know they never got their Misti for 40% off!!! I thought the Misti was clever but their price point was way too high for what it does plus I had the WRMK letterbox press that could do similar task but took up a lot of space. I've seen the Tonic/Tim Holtz one as low as $31.99 - skip a few fast food meals one month or Starbucks coffees and you can afford that. My health thanks me for skipping the fast food and my craftroom likes the new Tonic/Tim Holtz stamping platform.

    I saw a video quite a while ago (probably on Tim's channel) showing his platform).
    I'm new to stamping and had never seen such a device and was amazed by the ingenuity, but I didn't really feel a need for it until very recently.
    And the most recent stamping videos I've watched show the Misti (which I had never heard of, being familiar only with Tim's version).
    Well, crafter after crafter seemed to be using the Misti, which made me wonder if it was superior to Tim's.

    I just order the TH traveler stamp platform and can't wait for it to get here! As I was looking for a stamp platform, I came across the misti and I wear my heart skipped a beat at the price! Never will I ever pay that much for a stamp aid! Id rather spend the money on art and craft supplies where i get more bang for my buck! Seeing that Tim and Tonic came out with their own design (which looks more professional) I was so happy and could wait to get it! Things came up and I couldn't get it right away and now hearing that it's being discontinued I jumped on it paying $25.00 on the Wal-Mart app. I don't see how people have issues with stamping with TH unless their stamp is too close to the raised edges or too close to the magnets. I dont like stamping on foam unless im stamping in my art journal which I have an old mouse pad for that reason. Seeing how raised all 3 edges of the misti are would bother the check out of me because I can see the paper bending and wrinkling like you had happen and also since the paper isn't flat all around, makes it seem easier to hit and mess up plus are you really going to get a 2nd press correctly with the paper bending like that? I don't think so. Also just by looking at the misti it looks like a diy picture frame one with the 3 rulers looking like they're pieced together instead of one piece, the stamping glass looks really cheap and if hit on a soft spot could cause it to crack or break into pieces even. I just think for $80 probably plus shipping it should look totally more professional made and not have all 3 sides raised so much. Now comes to the fact that i don't understand how misti can sue TH and Tonic as they are 2 completely different designs but just serve the same purpose. To me that's like Velveeta suing Kraft. 2 different recipes but they're both mac n cheese. To me that's beyond petty and THE MAJOR reason im so glad I didn't get a cheaper smaller sized misti.

    Great comparison/review, Ian! I currently own the MISTI you used in the demo and love it. I'm very tempted by the new TH Platform and will most likely add that to my tool arsenal in the future especially for my larger projects. I'll keep my Misti for traveling and for my smaller projects. I also like the foam piece in the Misti for the clear stamps as it helps create a clean image with the first stamp so I think I would miss that in the TH Platform. The only thing I would add to your review is that if you have never used a stamping platform, you really need to get one. It will change the quality of your work for the better. It also makes creating layered stamp images so easy. I have actually stored away most of my stamp blocks in favor of my Misti. Thanks for the great review. I always enjoy your videos and find them very helpful.

    I've been using the Tim Holtz for a couple weeks, and have a couple points to add: 1) if you are using a big ink pad, the lip on the lid gets in the way and is a little messy, 2) I don't think photopolymer stamps stamp as well on the Tim Holtz-- seems to give some uneven coverage vs. the misti with the foam pad. My verdict-- I like both for diff. Reasons, but am not ready to trash my misti!

      As demonstrated in a UA-cam video for the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, if you are having trouble stamping clear stamps with the Tonic Stamp Platform, buy a 2 mm thick 9" x 12" or 12" x 18" (not sure of the dimensions on the double size foam) at Michaels or Joann's for 89 cents or 99 cents, respectively. Don't buy thicker foam for obvious reasons (surprising that a stamper can't figure that out) or your cardstock will "slip" off of the foam! You can then place the 2 mm foam onto the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform to stamp clear cling stamps if that's your preference. But as several UA-cam videos for the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform demonstrate, many stampers do stamp clear cling stamps with no problem. I haven't had a problem so far on the hard surface. But I did buy black foam at both Michaels and Joann's to see if they work with the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform after reading that a stamper's cardstock "slipped" off of the foam. There's no problem as long as you buy the 2 mm foam. Myself, I prefer stamping clear stamps without the foam on my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform and have gotten great results.
      I prefer stamping big background stamps with the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform vs stamping them with my MISTI because the solid sturdy Tim Holtz lid seems to produce a more solid image than that done with the MISTI. I think it's because the weight of the Tim Holtz lid helps in stamping/applying pressure to a large image. The MISTI lid is very light weight; so, it seems that I have to press more firmly and more times when stamping large background images using my MISTI.
      I especially like that the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform lid is detachable as I take my lid with stamps to the sink to wash off/clean my stamps and lid. I find that I spend more time cleaning my MISTI and don't use the 2 Novus acrylic cleaners that I bought when I got my MISTI because of the toxic warnings on both bottles. I also especially like the *lower* price and higher quality of the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform!

    I am SO glad you did this comparison. I agree with you that the Tim Holtz and Tonic Stamping Tool is a better value than MISTI. I have used the MISTI since it has been available. I tried to stamp a piece of 12 x12 cardstock with a cling stamp and the lid of my MISTI cracked with the CPR method of trying to get a good image. Also, my card stock wrinkled. I realize there is a bigger MISTI for the larger card stock, but I didn't expect the lid to crack with light pressure. Thank you for showing us this comparison. I know what my next crafting purchase will be.

    I bought the original MISTI and waited until inventory met demand to get it. There were no magnets or grid papers included then. I don't mind the protective sheet I keep on the lid when I store it, and I bought the recommended cleaning product (I found it and magnets for a better price elsewhere) to preserve the etching on the lid. My only gripe has been a fear of cracking the hinges because the lid doesn't lie flat on the table when open and inking my stamp. Cure: a few sheets of fun foam and all is well. IF my MISTI ever breaks I will probably replace it with the TH platform, but I am sticking with my MISTI until or if that happens. Thanks for a great comparison!

    Great review and comparison Ian. I refused to pay the outrageous price for the MISTI. I purchased the We R platform from HSN very cheaply before the legal issues and before I heard about the Tonic Tim Holtz platform. Even though the We R doesn't have a magnetic base, it's been great. However, if I ever have issues with it not being magnetic, I will definitely buy this one. In my opinion, they are both much better than the MISTI. TFS! ❤️

    I just got my platform yesterday, and I've not had a chance to play with it yet. I do have the original MISTI, and I have to say that at just my own first look of the platform that it really makes me feel like it is STURDY. I REALLY like that this doesn't have that stupid plastic covering over the grid, and yes, I recognize that the current MISTI's don't have it, it still is an annoyance every time I touch the lid; my fingers don't like that texture at all. I have always had great performance with my MISTI, and have no complaints about that at all.
    So, for me, it comes down to the design of the actual tool. I like that I don't have to have a "Memory" version to stamp on 12 x 12 papers. The design is actually so well thought out. If you look at the rulers on the sides of the original MISTI, there's an extra tick or two between a couple of the numbers on the ruler. Obviously I am not a freak about being exact or that would drive me crazy. I have a second MISTI that I got when my first MISTI started cracking on the edges and hinges, and I have just set that aside for use when the first one actually did bite the dust.
    So, what am I going to do? I'm going to reach for the Tim Holtz platform as my first choice of a tool. I am going to keep my MISTI in use when doing assembly line type of stamping, and my 2nd MISTI that I can use with Tack n' Peel for all those unmounted stamps that I've wanted to use, but haven't mounted yet. I also have a cheap-o DVD case that I keep set up with the stamps that I use on the backs of cards that I make, and that will continue to be at my fingertips.
    But when it comes down to nuts and bolts, I am glad to put my new TH stamping platform into the work-horse position, and as the MISTI's begin to crumble and break they will just go into the trash and I'll chalk that purchase up to a lesson well learned. I am also glad to support a product made by a leader in the industry and someone who hasn't gone crazy threatening to sue people for making their own versions of the tool.

      I could not agree more! I am so impressed with how steady the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform feels. I feel like I could stand on it and it won't break. Thanks for taking the time to watch my review and share your thoughts with me.

      I tend to stamp on things, much thicker than paper. I didn't stand on it, but I did kneel on it, as I was stamping on corrugated cardboard. . Of course I didn't put all of my weight on it, but the platform was fine afterwards!! This would depend on a persons weight of course, and I am sure Tonic and TH do not advise doing this, but I was willing to chance it!! Lol!

    Hi I’m a new subbie, when the Misti come out, I so so wanted it, but the price was way beyond my means, so I started to save. Then something else come up and I had to use the money I had. (Just thought I’d say I’m not a kid I’m almost 60 and been crafting since I was 3) so house and family have to come before crafting. But I could still stamp the old way so I could wait........then the Tim Holtz come out, as soon as I saw it I knew it was for me, so I changed from the Misti in my mind! A wee while later I was looking at a craft magazine, they were offering the Tim Holtz one as a gift for subscribing to the magazine, well I’m disabled and can’t always get out to get my fav mag, so was looking for the best deal in the mags I like (I like them all lol) so this was manna from heaven.......so I got my Tim Holtz AND my fav mag that I pay for each quarter, so what could be better.......nothing, I love it, I’d fight to keep it if I had to lol, now I’m looking at all his stuff, they are such great value, I think that is because he is a crafter and a normal guy who loves what he does and loves to share, he gets out there showing what he has, not like a lot of others hiding behind the name of a company. So I think you could say, this oldie is a Tim Holtz fan!!! I watched this because I find it interesting the comparison videos, and also male crafters, we need more of them on the tube, they have different ideas a lot of the time.....so I’m off to see what else you have done, I know this was last year so am hoping there is some goodies to watch! I can't believe I couldn't find either at Joann.com, very surprised, anyone know if the stores carry the Tim Holtz one?Also wondering, and yes obviously I haven't done much stamping yet, but why do you need a different side for unmounted rubber stamps and the clear cling stamps? And then I just have to say...You have such beautiful hands!! I was a hand & foot model for a short time yrs ago, it was fun, you should look into it, if you haven't already! Just saying :)

    • @OffKilterCrafterIan
      @OffKilterCrafterIan  7 років тому

      Because of the different thicknesses that clear cling stamps have vs. the thickness of rubber mounted stamps. Each side gives enough room for the stamps to stamp nicely.
