I insulated the bathroom shop in a way where hopefully the pipes don't freeze. Had to make some changes to the new trail up the side of the mountain. Not steep enough.

Heath! Eighteen to twenty-four concussions?!? That's insane!
We used to be your neighbors to the south in SLC. Last summer we moved to rural MO. We're building our own homestead and you've given us a lot of inspiration from the years we've been watching you. After my hubby had a large (17" circumference) tree limb fall on his head when he was at the property, he's no longer allowed to be there working alone. He had angels watching over him, that's for sure.
It sounds like you've had plenty of angels in your life as well. Be safe and I wish you well in meeting your goals for your property.

You could always add just a small space heater with a temperature thermometer in there to turn it on and off, that way you can make sure that the pipes don't freeze in there.

Thank you for another visit to your lovely homestead and, as always, to see your beautiful wife.
You are right about the need to occasionally get out of your comfort zone. I am back from an amazingly hard but certainly character building weekend. I could not have done it without the aid of people who stepped up and asked what they could do to help. It was the kindness of complete strangers that has me filled with so much gratitude today. I was so far from home and I had to accept/ask for help. And I am not good at that.

very productive with the road making - i would only say don't be so hesitant to take down trees within 10ft on either side as you will have them come down on the road and you may as well take care of issue now rather than later but leave the stumps in maybe and get those out during summer when things will grow back quick and prevent erosion - it may be a battle to maintain road for a few mos but you can tweak it and you are much further along to building out a nice camp on the back 40 - great views and possible good airbnb rental too - should be fun to build that out if you decide to - just build basic ranch and make it fast and easy - you can always addon later, build a nice deck, have a firepit and concrete cistern for water collection. one thing about clearing is it does give you a bit more fire suppression - something to be mindful of

JudithB I have fallen off horses several times but only rattled my brain badly once. I have always had a long list of things to do after we bought our first house in 1969. Working with animals has always been the most interesting from building nest boxes, greenhouses and lots of fencing. My Dad didnt like the way I worked because he thought I never finished anything! He worked on one project at a time until finished whether it was building houses or cleaning fence lines. I have worked on the front, side and back yards today and not finished anything, but its looking better slowly!! LOL!!

I got you beat with projects that are always in the works (lol). I actually have a chalkboard with over 20 or more of them listed. I'm always waiting for paint to dry, or parts to come in, or for the weather to be right, and a lot of times I just don't feel like working on a specific thing so I just head on over to the next one on the list. Plus everyday there is always something new to add or something that breaks and takes priority. I also have land and horses and a house to run. You are not alone in this venture. I hate sitting still myself and enjoy keeping busy and take pride when one of those projects is completed. As land owners there is always something bigger and better we can do to improve what we've got and there is not a damn thing wrong with that. I always say get done what you can get done now because some day you won't be able to do what you are doing now. I've been watching your videos since the beginning and you have come a very long way. You should be very proud of yourself, I'm proud for you. Thank you for sharing your story with me.

Yes, you do not have reindeer, but it would still be fun. Naming one Bambi would also be fun. Blitzen means lightening in German. Donder means thunder.

when i see all the snow around your house i can't stop thinking: what will you do before the next spring snow melt, to prevent the road disaster of the last year?
i think you should try to find a solution now, maybe digging a channel on the hill side of the road to collect the water that flows down from the hill and bury pipes under the road to let it flow down the hill on the other side.
it's a little bit expensive and you should clear the pipes from the mud every year, but could work.

All first generation Cattle had names starting with A, HIs second generation Cattle started with B and now his third generation starts with C names. I thought that was unique. He has come up with some creative names. Primary Character names from TV programs. That beats the heck out of trying to be cutesy with new names.

you could pick the right slope and position of all of your switch back and paths by using your plumbing knowledge, rise over run, you said you have roughly 1000' to rise, you know where you started and your property width, pick an angle, or calculate an angle that works, which will lay out the path for you. draw it on google maps or with your drone, lay it out with ribbon, and its easy. I say this, not knowing the wants and wishes you have along the path though. best of luck, fun to watch how this all works out. cheers

The way you do things would drive me absolutely bonkers, I used to work for a guy who worked much the same way as you to but the difference is he would never get anything done and I was stuck picking up the pieces of his projects so we would get things done. Now is your way wrong ? No it is different than how I would do it but projects still getting things done so it is what ever works for you.

RP: in today’s video you asked viewers to consider SUGGESTING NAMES for deers in your ‘herd’ ‘IDENTIFYING AS’ female. A few videos back, I remember you mentioning that you had for some reason or another decided that the name ‘Ralph’ was appropriate for the (is it the) HORNYIST one in your herd, and I I found myself wondering about what might be some appropriate names for the females.
Here are some names that I actually came up with ‘way back then’ which I thought I would pass on to you in view of your recent request for suggested names:
You named the ‘head of the pack’ ‘Ralph’. How about ‘Alice’ for one female name, ‘Trixie’, for another female name, ‘Norton’ or ‘Fred’ in the event you might need some mail names to choose from and one more female name ‘Ethel’.
Do those names - in conjunction with ‘Ralph’ ‘ring a bell’? They should…
A few more female names - short and simple: ‘Lucy’, ‘Milly’, ‘Roxy’, ‘Emma’.
We’ll be very interested to see what you wind up ‘going with’.
Really enjoy your show - watch it weekly - my favorite Sunday show. Keep it up.

Aren't you afraid of the cattle using your trails when they get loose? You could have them end up in your backyard. Happy to seeing you finish up the shop.

Well I don’t see any problem with the way your brain works. I think yours works the same way mine works. I don’t see anything wrong with your projects or how you transfer or transition from one to another. Of course, I have split my forehead open, (three times in the same place requiring stitches), by the time I was seven. Twice onto concrete and once on steel. Oh, and let’s not forget the time it took 40+ stitches to put my ear on because a car fell on my head and pinned me underneath it. 😂
    Love the channel.
