So many people claim that artists should just be happy with the exposure and not fight for getting paid for their work... And yet we have these big corporations who refuse to credit the artist so they don't even get that.

Came to say this. Business people are all about striking while the iron is hot (no pun intended), but adapting the beginning of a series (which will involve choosing what to change and/or cut) when you don't know where it's going is a recipe for disaster Source: the HP movies

The problem with The Fantastic Beasts is that it wasn't a book series before it was a movie series. When you have a franchise that comes from books you should only expand them if more books are written
I love what you do Daniel and as you got me back into reading, I would never say no to more book stuff, HOWEVER, if it comes to cover reveals vs other news, I’d always prefer other news. Cover reveals rarely do much for me and only once in a great while do they make me interested enough to check out said book. However AGAIN, if it’s either we get more cover reveals or we get a shorter Fantasy News? My priority is always more Fantasy News over what is in it. It’s your show and I am glad to follow you thru your chosen highlights of the day. As an audience member I have genuinely come to trust your eye for interesting genre stories and info.
12:32 A few thoughts on the 5-film thing. 1. When JKR said that, all the Warner executives stood up and shook hands, like billionaire f*ckheads do when things go their way. At that point, 5 films to them looked like ~$3B in profit (just in box office reciepts). If they were getting 5 films, they weren't going to say no. 2. David Yates and the crew only signed on for the first one, and they wouldn't have felt like, "oh I have to be here for all 5." I'm sure becuase had a long history with the franchise he felt weird about that, but the issue was definitely more that the information was sprung on them, and they didn't have anything appropriate to say about it to the public. 3. JKR does have a tendency ot think that she can do no wrong, so I bet she shat out an idea that could go for 5 films, that morning after breakfast, and just unilaterally decided. And, per my first comment, the excectives counted that as a win.

I actually got so excited just from your synopsis of Blue Eye Samurai that I immediately tabbed out to watch the trailer. It's really dumb that Netflix copyright claimed the *promotional material*, because I genuinely would not have taken the extra effort to find the trailer myself if the synopsis hadn't been so interesting. Really excited for that show! It looks like it's gonna be great!

I think they don't reveal cover artists because they want to keep that style for themselves and don't want others to go to them and get similar covers made. That being said, I'm very pro showing who the cover artist is somewhere in the book as well.
I think this needs to change ASAP, mainly because of how artists are being thrown under the bus by AI and bugtechs/studios/publishers but also because the cover is a big reason for someone to get interested in a book, even more so when the author is not well known yet. @@Eval999

Fourth Wing is perfect series material, simply bc the story is interesting but the writing is... not. I am very hopeful about the series ending up being better than books xd
@@Luna-ef8jz I would dispute that the story is interesting. One larger and more powerful ambiguously evil kingdom. One smaller and less powerful and ambiguously antagonistic kingdom. Generic evil beings who want to consume all the power/lifefoce of the land. One main character who is so special that she gets all the best things, the hottest and biggest guy at school, the biggest and best dragon, an unprecedented second (super-special) dragon, and not to forget her magical hair which I'm sure will be an important plot point in the future ( _he says sarcastically_ ). Then there is the sheer stupidity of a school where it's somehow allowable to murder your fellow student which would not create strong individuals as the book seem to think, it would simply create either serial killers, or complete paranoid basket cases. Which by extension would *_never_* be able to work cooperatively together, as none of them would ever trust each other. Also you could lose many of your best candidates due to some minor mistakes, before they even had the smallest idea what they were actually doing.
It's great that you are going out of your way to highlight the cover artists for these books! It's so odd that in a time of AI art and so many people being against it, that you wouldn't note the artist in a cover reaveal.
It's a deliberate policy to prepare ground for AI-generated covers. First they will get people used to artists not being credited, then start sneaking in AI covers and hope nobody will ask about the author anymore.

Stormweaver fan here. I'm listening to the audiobook for book 2, which tells me I have 4hrs to go. It's a chonky book, taking 32hrs 37mins to listen through. Loving it, dreading finishing it and beginning the wait for the next one again.
From my brief experience working in publishing, unfortunately the marketing team at even big publishers that posts cover reveals aren’t actually involved in creating the cover and usually don’t even know who the artist is so it doesn’t surprise me that they don’t credit them! I hope it’s something they start to do

I'm hesitant to get excited about the Fourth Wing adaptation. Amazon and Hulu in my opinion have let the book community down time and time again. Not to say they always have, but they have enough. Not to mention it feels way too early for this series to be getting a live adaptation anyway! I want to be excited, but im pretty much betting on getting let down at this point.
The Bound and the Broken series by Ryan Cahill are great, I flew through them and every book is better than the last. I really really appreciate that you name the cover artists. Wow are they talented!

I think WB doesn't announce/discredit/correct/make official anything mostly due to one single reason: money. If a project makes money, they'll make more, and if it doesn't, they'll stop. I agree that it is sad that publishers don't credit the artists. And I fully agree that with most of the books that I've read, it was the cover art that caught my eye. And you will like the Cradle series. I thought the same thing that you do for the first 2 books. But my friend and I were listening to the audiobooks together, and he convinced me to continue. The series will make you go through a rollercoaster of emotions. Theres is even a couple of places where you might shed a couple of tears. And to be honest, I didn't even know that Will Wight self published Cradle. It was the second series by him that I read/listened to. The first series was his Traveler's Gate trilogy, which is also pretty good.

I hope the Highlander reboot is centered around the lore that made the show versus the movies. The movies went wild after the first one, but the show with Adrian Paul was the freaking best.
The series was excellelnt through the first 5 seasons, at least. The "sixth season" -- really just a series of attempts to find a female lead for a spin off -- not so much. The track record for additional Highlander movies isn't that great, so color me skeptical about this. Also, maybe stop trying to reboot the 80s please and leave the things we Gen-Xers loved in peace.
So excited to read fire and song, it's really hard to find good series in progression fantasy and this series is one of the best. If anyone knows a series on par with cradle, please recommend.
Blood at the Roots is my favorite cover reveal for today. I love all the blue, and the text looks great. Yea also, maybe the cover stuff is taking over these videos a bit too much but do what you want.
I'm excited to see Gunmetal Gods get more attention. I loved the original Highlander movie and also loved the show. I look forward to Cavil and the new Highlander. I hope there isn't just one, I want a series.
When they first announced the Highlander reboot and attached Henry Cavil and Chad Whatshisface the director stated that they were planning a trilogy and modelling it after the original Star Wars trilogy. I don't know if that's still the plan because that was a few years ago and I thought this project was quietly cancelled or restructured with different people.

I'm excited to see Gunmetal Gods get more attention. I loved the original Highlander movie and also loved the show. I look forward to Cavil and the new Highlander. I hope there isn't just one, I want a series.
When they first announced the Highlander reboot and attached Henry Cavil and Chad Whatshisface the director stated that they were planning a trilogy and modelling it after the original Star Wars trilogy. I don't know if that's still the plan because that was a few years ago and I thought this project was quietly cancelled or restructured with different people.
