@@dingo4ever369 I wouldn't. Woody would have corrected himself anyway. And it would look much better. Because in the original version of Woody, although he did the wrong things, he was still kind from the beginning. Just scared that Buzz would replace him. And here it is precisely that correction and a complete change of character. That's why I don't hate this version of Woody.
I think Slinky, at least in this version, had the right to do all of this. Woody was using and abusing him like a slave, unjustly threw Buzz out the window, and was a complete and utter JERK to everyone. Think about that if you ever watch this again. I'm not saying it wasn't comical or anything. To be fair, it WAS a little funny. But when you think about what lead Slinky to say these things here, it's suddenly not so funny. But hey, that's my opinion.😒😉😞😒
They also had a deleted scene which was actually a way more deranged version of Woody's Nightmare from Toy Story 2, cockroaches ate his face off in a bin, and the scene itself also made Andy out to be more of a psycho than Sid. And they also had an alternate opening where Buzz is seen on his saturday morning cartoon doing these incredibly violent, explosion-laden takedowns of Zurg's henchmen and it even sort of foretells Sid's plan to blow Buzz up on a firecracker because Zurg straps him to a giant rocket and does a similar countdown but Buzz somehow redirects it towards Zurg and kills him. Zurg wasn't a robot guy, like he was in Toy Story 2, in these deleted scenes; he was a regular, squishy, organic alien dude, so it's not even the kind of hyper-violence that Samurai Jack got away with. Toy Story is metal as f-ck, but it was even more metal in deleted scenes. I'm just imagining the parallel universe where this film was critically panned, gave kids both nightmares and moral ambiguity (instead of slightly less nightmares and important lessons in friendship) but it became this gritty, underground, avant-garde film known for both the pioneering technology but also the batshit, edgy writing. It'd be advertised like Fight Club made on a computer. Heck, the film in it's current state already tackled existential torment way before The Matrix or Rick and Morty did (but not before Descartes did), Buzz realizing he's a toy is one of the most heartbreaking moments in the film, and Woody had genuinely good advice for pepping him up, but the film really never got a lot of recognition for tackling deep philosophical questions the way Rick & Morty and The Matrix did when they were released. I even remember the short theatrical trailer when it came out and it sort of made it out to be a dark, edgy, violent, Tarantino-like exploitation film, it was really out of character (and that was either because the film was new and they didn't know how to aadvertise it tonally, or because Disney tried to sabotage Pixar) but would've totally fit the kind of film in this scene.
Yeah... This actually makes me more than glad that we ended up with the Woody we came to know and love. This Woody is just... no. No wonder Pixar hated this characterization for Sheriff Woody... 😬🫠🫠
He was kinda a jerk to him in the actual film tho. Telling him to shut up, pushing him off the bed when he is with Buzz etc. just not this bad obviously.
There's at least two things in this deleted scene that I find funny: "You don't deserve to wear a ten gallon hat on your pint sized head!" and "Stop! Don't throw him off the bed... THROW HIM OUT THE WINDOW!"
Damn. That was almost modern Family Guy levels of uncomfortable. Original Woody and Final Woody are almost night and day: Final Woody may have done some jerky things, but you could tell it was mostly born out of fear and insecurity rather than intentional malice. Original Woody was just a narcissistic ass.
Slinky: "Wait! STOP! Don't throw him off the bed!" Woody: "Yeah." Slinky: "THROW HIM OUT THE WINDOW LIKE HE DID TO BUZZ!" Other toys: "YEAH!" Is wrong that I'm laughing at that turn of event?
The thing about redemption in stories is that it depends partly on how the character is perceived by the audience. In the final cut of the film, we want to see Woody win through because despite being kind of selfish at times, he's overall a decent guy who made a mistake and deserves a chance to learn from that mistake. _This_ version of Woody is such an unlikable jerk that, to the audience, he doesn't seem like a flawed person to be redeemed, but a villain who should be punished for their actions.
Yeah. And most of all, said mistake was made because of a more understandable reason: more than him trying to save his place as top toy, it's more that he understandably felt kicked to the curb and treated like he didn't exist anymore, which can resonate with firstborns and former only childs who feel overshadowed by the first younger sibiling who enters the picture. *That* is a relatable character. You can understand how all of that leaded to him acting so bitter towards Buzz. And you rooted for him because he's earnestly trying to fix his mistake. Here in this version, he's so unlikable that you wonder if he's even a hero at all and you just want karma to bite him in his sorry a**.
Black Friday Reel Examples: Mr Potato Head Pull one of His Eyes Out and Put them Underneath Bo Peep's Dress for a Look C. In My Imaginary Example: Woody Forces Bo Peep To Have a Sex with him in the Closet, He Started Snarling and Grunting Ferociously while Having Sex with Her.
I get why people are unnerved by this version of Woody, but I’m more intrigued by this version if anything. It would’ve been interesting to see this in its entirety
I think it's hilarious. Toy Story bores me to tears and I can't imagine why the mindless masses keep going to see the same old tripe over and over again. This... This I would pay to see multiple times in the cinema. Finally, a Woody with a personality. This would have been a thousand times more interesting than the whiny preachy crap they spoonfeed us.
Woody in the final take: A loyal toy who cares for others, struggles with jealousy which causes him to do a selfish act but later on learns from his mistakes and tries to help save buzz. Woody in the Black Friday reel: An uncaring, disloyal jerk who bullies and dominates the other toys, and seems like he can’t be redeemed or forgiven due to how unlikable and villainous he is.
@@HoshikoYui and it works better for Lotso, because he’s a character whom the audience is supposed to hate, unlike Woody, who is supposed to be likable.
Watching Toy Story 4, it warmed my heart to see Woody going out of his way to save Forky from trashing himself and helping him to realize his value to Bonnie, and all while gradually being neglected by Bonnie. Would’ve been a different story if Forky stole his thunder in Toy Story 1 lol
potato head was how i first heard of don rickles & thats how i'll always remember him :( i cant believe hes gone. r.i.p. don rickles aka potato head :(
Am I the only one fascinated with this footage? I mean, the idea of Woody being the villain is very interesting to me, for some reason I really love this Woody, sure he's a jackass but I don't know, he seems more over-the-top and sorta edgier due to that and with a few rewrites I'm sure him being the villain could've worked. But I can also see the argument that shows that not being a good idea, with the context of the story and Woody just being sorta off-puttingly mean, along with this version of the character not really fitting the theme of the film itself. Thankfully he was rewritten to be more relatable and less like a jerk.
I'm glad they changed it, because having this be their first film probably would have severely hurt the company, but I'm also interested in how they would have written this Woody! I wonder what his character Arc would have been. The entire movie seems a bit darker
2:59 At first I thought Slinky was going to stop them from throwing Woody because he's very nice, but then I started laughing my butt off when he opened the window for them 😆
It crossed the line when Woody was cruel to slinky. Slinky is sweetheart and supposed to be Woody's best friend. Him deliberately throwing Buzz out the window and being smug about it could have made the cut but him turning on his old friends revealing he doesn't really care for him destorys any good will the toys and the audience had for him.
Imagine If Final Woody Appears Final Woody: You Have Crossed The Line Nigga Slinky Is My Dawg You Don't Diss Slinky You Lil Nigga 1995 Woody: Damn Straight Ha
Woody in the Never Seen Before Deleted Scene Black Friday Reel, He Makes The Green Army Men as his Own Goons, Slinky as His Right Hand/Servant and Bo Peep as His Unwilling Bride.
This was cut because Tom Hanks himself really hated this role for Woody so they made a much nicer Woody instead of a Bad Woody guess that pretty much shows how Tom Hanks doesn't like being the bad guy
This was done because Jeffrey Katzenberg who was the former Chairman of the Walt Disney company wanted the film to be more edgy and aim at this for adults,so you should blame him for that.
@Juno Keira Page No. Woody's entire character was re-written because they realized he came off as too unlikable. They wanted Woody to be arrogant, but they overdid it.
Apparently it was Jeffrey Katzenberg (chief executive of Disney at the time) who initially pushed for this version of Toy Story to be. But when he and everyone saw this reel, he wondered what could've gone wrong to make Toy Story this mean spirited, until someone told him to stop interfering with Pixar and let them make Toy Story their way.
For some reason, I kinda find this funny, like if it was a parody of the movie, lol. Especially the "Throw him out the window!" at the end. Now I want fanfics with this version of Woody...
Looking back, Woody kinda felt like a jerk for most of the original Toy Story. At the same time, considering he was a toy for little kids, I feel he was meant to reflect the level of maturity of one, so it makes sense. Here Woody was just an asshole. Plain and simple. Would have been interesting to see how this movie would have turned out if they went this direction, but it's not a particularly huge loss either.
Well, he was a jerk for most of the first movie because he'd always been Andy's favorite toy, never had any competition for that, and now suddenly, he does. He was jealous of Buzz, plain and simple.
The fact that Tom Hanks can make a good hero in the movie Is one thing, but being also a GREAT villain in the storyboards! Dayum, he Is such a good actor!
Imagine the sheer discomfort a kid might feel if they unfortunately had abusive parents like this version of Woody, then them going to see a new cutesy animated film about toys that come to life, and then seeing and hearing this.
I'm surprise Young Xehanort didn't even try to shut him up by using dark spells against the gang or even those lightsabers like when he appeared as a secret boss in Birth By Sleep.
I liked how they kept Woody as the jealous jerky type but you see where he’s going through. Besides, he never thought of attempted murder since he just wanted to push Buzz behind the desk, but just things went out of his control.
Jeez In the final draft of the movie, Woody made Buzz fall out the window on accident. He was trying to make him fall behind the desk. But in this, Woody did it on purpose. I'm glad Woody wasn't a villain.
If was same jerk he was, then from the scenes from the first film, how buzz and woody fight, how would woody react when he's in the cargo area of the pizza planet / putt truck, how would they react in pizza putt while searching for andy.
@@calebkuti7897 That was a short film that was only responsible for the creation of the jumping desk lamp in the Pixar logo but Toy Story was what launched them as a film studio and it was a big part of what made Pixar successful to begin with. It's the reason why there's a Toy Story movie out right now (as well as two other Toy Story movies they made before it).
This video has renewed my appretiation for Toy Story. I mean yeah typically the antagonist would be the jealous vengeful one, the the good guy is the awesome innocent one like Buzz. The final Toy Story proves that that line between "good guy" and "bad guy" isn't so simple. Good people deal with jealousy too and they can act up A LOT. But I like how the creators chose to keep Woody that jealous sarcastic character, but instead he dealt with these feelings in such a way that eventually he became a "good guy", and that's an example of change that's even more powerful than a protagonist overcoming an antagonist. They brought up the fact that people can change if the choose not to let vengeance consume them. And look at Woody in Toy Story 4! I can't believe this is the same guy who jumped out of a moving van to save a little girl's spork! Woody's come a long way. Wow this is long but I just really appretiate Toy Story now!
I wish they released the entire script of this version of Toy Story in public, I'm curious how it would've ended. Would this version of Woody end up having a change of heart in the end? Or would he get a Disney death?
The actual outline of the story itself is apparently the same. From what I can tell, Woody would have had a change of heart, but the script wouldn't have built up to it properly, so he'd be a jerk for most of it and the payoff wouldn't have felt earned like it was in the movie.
One of the higher ups wanted the story to have more 'edge'. The actual team never really took to it, and ended up making an unlikeable Woody. There's some speculation they did it just so Disney would see what an awful idea this was and let them redo it the way they wanted to. The nicer Woody was in fact the original concept they had.
GalacticMusicalGirl 12 Wrong tho. Toy Story 1 was before Disney bought Pixar. Katzenberg wanted it to appeal to adults too so wanted it to be more edgy. Pixar needed the money from Disney. Their previous shorts almost bankrupted them
I think it is a good thing that they changed it as this is not how woody should be. I think an evil woody (copy) like this would be great if they were to do a 4th film
In the movie I thought the Sergeant was gonna say "You don't deserve to wear that BADGE," but nah, drill sergeants are much more creative than that, heh heh.

While this definitely would have made Toy Story worse, that said I still wouldn't mind seeing this version being fully realized on UA-cam as a darker version of the original.
or you could watch toy story 3, which is basically this clip on roids. That movie was pretty dark, but really well done. In my opinion the last really good pixar movie since.
A dark version of Toy Story could've also included the original, more disturbing version of Woody's nightmare about being thrown away that was somehow way more graphic despite only being a handful of frames long.
Crazy fact: Toy Story 2 was almost a dark film as well, before Pixar regained full control of production. The reason that film ends up being so joyful and beautiful is because it was rewritten. It originally was just going to be a cookie cutter hero (Buzz and Woody) vs crazy villain story.
@@asmrbully6980 It's crazy. Read the IMDB Trivia for it. There was originally a Mexican dancer girl who was a full on villainess and helped Prospector fight Woody and Buzz. Pixar replaced her with a certain now-famous character, who today is loved by countless and has become iconic to the franchise along with Buzz and Woody.
@@misterniceguy429 he talks about how he's playing Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis back when he was receiving the Golden globe in the same years just to prove he can play a good villain as well but decide not to. The movie kinda bombed after that so he's probably better off stick with woody
Well his intention was the same in the final version, no one is always good and maybe they could've made a cool metaphor by giving Woody a gun for his holster, and in the end have him drop it on purpose during the flight to the car.. That would've been good
"You and what army?" *Army men pop out of the tub* "THERE HE IS GET HIM!!!!" Aha I see what you did there! You and what ARMY then the army men pop out of nowhere good job Pixar!!!!!

Woody:.................You're Goddamn Right Cue Toy Story Theme Song
At 1:36 you can see the facial expressions of Rex, his face just turns from timid and shy to aggressive and furious. Boy I wish that Rex have much angry expression in all movies.
Original Woody is basically like most Internet people: A Complete Asshole. I guess that's why some people here preferred the original Woody, because they relate to him. I'm glad they actually made Woody more relatable - a hint of his original personality is still there, but that's mainly due to him being jealous of Buzz and feared of being replaced, but is overall more likeable. If his original personality was completely intact, nobody would like him, except for assholes in general.

+Chestosneako Inc The thing is that this was the first 100% animated film and the first Pixar film.If it weren't for the change the movie wouldn't be as much of a success which would change how animated films would be and Pixar would not have enough money to keep going cause animating like this back then was much harder so a lot would have changed.

TransFan360 He tried to seek help from his friends and was replied to with a punch in the face permanently scarring his face, he's doing his own version of good, though egoistical. Pandora was a cesspool full of murderers and Zarpedon's only excuse to oppose him was a vision while ultimately fueling his hatred for others. He was disciplined with a buzz axe, he was betrayed by his friends, he was attacked because of a captain's dream given to her by a race long considered dead. He doesn't just think he's the good guy, Borderlands 2 is told from the standpoint of a bunch of bandits. Though he did manipulate his daughter for power and a replica of him wanted to kill people to stick a robotic body of himself into other people, I can give you that and you can probably take a lot from my faulty biased reasoning.

Wow, Woody's actually psychotic here.
Inacio's Second Channel That sounds beyond horrific.
@Inacio's Second Channel Tbh I kinda wanna see that
in an alternate version of this movie Woody was even more of a phycopathic douchebag
I'm glad they reenvisioned woody to the character we all know and love.
Seeing Woody be so cruel to Slink is the saddest shit ever, he’d never be that rude to his longtime friends.
Yeah like wow

This actually makes me more than glad that we ended up with the Woody we came to know and love. This Woody is just... no.

He was kinda a jerk to him in the actual film tho. Telling him to shut up, pushing him off the bed when he is with Buzz etc. just not this bad obviously.

You know What they Say "Your Actions Have Consequences."

This Woody is awesome, i love his voice and personality, im crazy🤠
I'm glad they changed it, because having this be their first film probably would have severely hurt the company, but I'm also interested in how they would have written this Woody! I wonder what his character Arc would have been. The entire movie seems a bit darker

But still you can’t have a Pixar movie without Luxo. (Not that I hate Toy Story or disagree with anything you said)
This video has renewed my appretiation for Toy Story.
That was actually really entertaining still.
@SuperFan MusicMaker Was thinking the same.
@Brandon Brooks Wow so much edge indeed! Just what the hell!
@Brandon Brooks not for kids, but rather for fans of lord of the flies or watershipdown
😠I'd rather not take that risk.😟
I can't believe Pixar even had this idea in the first place.
ToonReel001 That higher-up happened to be Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Tylan Holmes We can thank Jeffrey Katzenburg for that. Before he went to find DreamWorks, he worked for Pixar and wanted the movie to be more “edgy”.
I know!
When people say Disney is a nice corporation, just look at this and remember, *they almost ended Pixar.*

At 1:36 you can see the facial expressions of Rex, his face just turns from timid and shy to aggressive and furious. Boy I wish that Rex have much angry expression in all movies.
Glad they went with that they did.
same here
me to I saw this movie when I was 3,4,5 one of those
Hayley Rodgers SAME TOY STORU IS DA FUCKING BEST
Original Woody is basically like most Internet people: A Complete Asshole. I guess that's why some people here preferred the original Woody, because they relate to him.
I'm glad they actually made Woody more relatable - a hint of his original personality is still there, but that's mainly due to him being jealous of Buzz and feared of being replaced, but is overall more likeable. If his original personality was completely intact, nobody would like him, except for assholes in general.
Rose Supreme the original Woody would be an online troll by today’s standards
I don't think there would have been sequels if Woody was always this mean. He's a bit mean in the first movie but it's understandable.
Yeah pretty much
This include you
Shan Chaudhry Theyre are A holes everywhere both in real life and the internet.
Slinky:HEY GUYS DON'T THROW HIM OFF THE BED!
Woody:YEA!
Slinky:*Opens window curtains* THROW HIM OUT THE WINDOW LIKE HE DID TO BUZZ
Whole crowd:YEA YEA YEA
Woody:NONONONONONO
this part made me laugh to death XD
Me the same,I was like "hahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahhahahhahag"
#1 reason why they should've kept that scene in the first place! LOL!!
@CyberHax Inc Except I think that someone other than Slinky (definitely not Bo Peep) should have said that.
Calm down Woody, we’re your friends
Black Friday Woody: SILENCE!!! On Your Knees! All Of You!!!
3:03 Damn, now Slinky went full gangsta mode
3:02
Welcome to San Andreas
3:05 This frame just creeps me out for some reason. Even though Woody is an asshole in this reel it still unsettling to see this depiction of the toys.
EVEN BO PEEP HELPS!!!!!!!
@KoopaKool12 Yeah well to defeat you're enemies you have to BECOME them sometimes.
Wow. Woody was literally Handsome Jack from Borderlands in this.
YES!
Remind me how he's like Handsome Jack?
He's the boss of everyone and clearly thinks he's the good guy when he's really a sadistic dictator (just look at how he treats Slinky). That and how "cool" he tries to act while everyone's terrified of him.
I'm just saying they have a lot in common in terms of their attitudes towards their underlings. Your right that their backstories are totally different, but that's not really what I'm getting at to begin with.
Original Woody: A TYRANNICAL CRAPBAG AND A STRAIGHT-UP VILLAIN THAT MAKES SCAR LOOK LIKE A SAINT BY COMPARISON
Final Woody: The good guy we all know
Diego Carlucci final one is the real one of course
Black Friday one is fake
We’ll both did throw their enemies off a cliff/window ledge so here woody kinda is Pixar’s scar
I didn't realize that Scud comes in and you been a bad boy you don't throw buzz out the window you freaking jerk
I think slinky gets the worst of the verbal abuse with that "goodwill" line..like holy shit
Looks like the Other Toys Had Enough of Being Abused by Woody in The Original Drafts.
who else is here because of SuperCarlinBrothers?
ME I LOVE THEIR CHANNEL
Minavera Gold yup I got here cause of them too
Yep
Me! : )
Minavera Gold Me
Woody would of made an awesome antagonist
seriously
Well, that’s how Toy Story 3 got the villain it had.
He makes even Lotso look like a saint!
Don't you mean he *WOOD'VE* made an awesome antagonist
