Hello again everybody! As this is a silent video Ill leave some blurb for context.
Before I start my log cabin build this autumn I thought id practice some techniques and get a ‘temporary’ shelter up near by for storage / taking breaks in and just for normal filming tasks.
I decided to do a framed shelter in order to use some ‘reclaimed’ timber already in the woods and experiment with making shakes (tiles) for the roof.. due to time constraints I only went with 2 over lapping rather than the recommended 3, this shelter doesn’t need to be 100% water tight.. just keep out the majority.
I fired the parts of the posts that went in the ground but the wood was already old and the shelter temporary so it was more for ‘demonstration purposes’ really. This is usually done to protect from rotting.
The video was filmed over a week, it took me the best part of 3 days to make the shakes alone and I only had half of what I need, yes.. filming does make everything take twice as long haha, Thanks to my mate Chris for the loan of the shave horse and tutorial on making shakes. Ideally they should be overlapping by 3 and have expansion gaps.
It would have been nice to complete this shelter but unrealistic with work and needing a weekly video upload but rest assured part 2 will be here in a couple of weeks which will be completing the roof and starting to close in some walls.
Thank you for watching friends.. see you all soon!
Roof tiles are smart
Looking really good so far. Keep up the good work. Best of luck.
Can’t wait for the actual shelter build!! And some overnights in it!!!! Well done Andy, Sarah from Herne bay!
Can wait to see the log cabin, have you ever done this before or shall this be your first cabin, im sure it has to take a lot of planning! Good luck 👍
Never seen that tool for making tiles. :)
I suffer with severe anxiety, these vids calm it immensely, thank you so much.
I just messaged the same thing. It's therapeutic.

Wildcamp Wednesday!! Yay, Simon, a bloke in the woods and Andy release a video, that’s my TV for the evening! Thanks guys!
Thanks :) enjoy the video(s)
It's very therapeutic watching this kind of video. There's no talking needed buddy. Actions speak louder buddy. Enjoyed it.
I love the hollow sound from the bucksaw going through that deadwood. You could hear just how dry it was. Plus all those lovely shavings will keep you stocked in tinder for a good while. Looking forward to how the series continues Andy, thank you for sharing your journey.
Thank you Sarah :)
Man your the only person that knows how to make wooden planks using only tools thats crazy everyone else does it where its uneven yours are smooth and great for building!
"Let's Play Simon's Saws!" Looks a fine bit of kit. Always a pleasure to drop by your channel and to watch you whip something up in the great woodlands. I always appreciate a bit of woodcraft coming out in the woods. It makes a better base for survival and, for me, it always made for a cabin to make better memories. VIEWERS: check out the variety of froe work towards the end of this video. You probably won't have seen the like of it on any other channel!
I always appreciate to you because make video in forest natural
Some videos don't need talking as the content speaks volumes. This is one such video. Great to watch, calming and therapeutic at the same time (as others have said). Looking forward to part 2 Andy.
Howdy Andy, we enjoyed your video greatly. Excellent presentation!!
People that live off grid all over the world will one day have a statue of Kent that they will pray to. WOW !!! Cheers from New York City.
Between you and Joe Robinet I can stay on UA-cam for hours! Great job
Kent set the standard for bushcraft glamping.
Wow, it is wonderful! Well done. Iblook forward to the next installment. Hand made shingles even!
Impressed with the shingles. Don't see a froe in use very often. Waiting for part two.
Thanks Roger :)
Having the right tools makes it so much easier. I remember watching some show on TV where they did a roof in France with chestnut shingles🤠👍.
hey man love the content. respect from Hong Kong
Bravo Andy!♥️ I’ve been hoping for a build like this! I didn’t realize you were planning on building a cabin. That is so great! One of my other fave youtube channels uses this hand-tools-only way of building. Very rewarding for sure! Looking forward to the next one!
You are stepping the game up with these projects Andy, first this small shelter to protect you and gear from the elements whilst working on your new project, the log cabin. I cannot wait for that. We see a lot in North America, Finland, Russia and so on but little old Blighty. Wow, this will be epic and the envy of lots. Before you start, maybe do a little video on the chosen cabin design and how you managed to secure a spot to build it, finance and so forth. Very interesting journey Andy. Awesome.
Yeah agreed, it'll be epic. I'm looking forward to it too. 👍
Fabulous. A real craftsman. Mesmerising to watch. Thanks Andy. Atb.
Awesome Andy you're very talented.
Wow, just wow.
Thanks for sharing.
No jabbering, no music, real sounds, real work, excellent.
Great stuff Andy, it’s great to watch a craftsman at work 👍
Well that's one of the best videos I've seen regarding bushcraft. The amount of work, and hard work at that, incredible really.
It is commendable how much effort you put in your content. Also, that's alot of shingles. I salute you Sir.
Wow that is some next level Jedi bush crafting! Seriously impressive and can not wait for the next instalment - this has the potential to be the best yet!
In this, your latest video you have surpassed anything you’ve done before. Showing not only your complete skill set and mastery of Bushcraft, but your ability to teach others without saying a single word. I look forward to the next instalment. Thank you.
Always enjoy watching Andy 😊
Excellent video Andy. Really interesting watching you working the wood & building. Can't wait for the next installment. Thankyou. 😀👍🍀
I hope this goes viral. Absolutely speechless at your work. Well done Sir. Well done indeed.
As much as I love making cord, or using roots for lashings and bindings I have always used an auger hand drill for drilling holes and pegging things together in the forest. Easy to do, very strong, very satisfying. I have a collection of antique auger drills which I love to use.
Great to see someone else doing the same thing. Great videos. Thank you!
man kent you are truly a craftsman. big ups on your YT channel!
Andy I love your videos 🤩! I have to say you keep getting better and better all the time I love the little cozy cabin now all you need is a dog 🐕⛺🛶✌🇺🇸
Brilliant work Andy! Wishing you much success on your build.
Andy my friend, this video is on another level. This was awesome to watch, something completely different than what I've watched before. Keep.them coming

Hi I have been enjoying most of your videos ,they are really good I have never been camping in my life ,but watching you have so much fun and how you prepared the wood to keep warm and for cooking I would have to continue to watch you to get the hang of it good job.
Hello from Arizona! I plan to use some of the things I've learned Watching your videos once I buy my land this fall. Love this channel!
Hello, Kent - I'm diggin' your new film style. Compositions are tighter. Good sequence planning, setting up shots. Very, very nice. I also MUCH prefer - from almost all bushcrafters - if they'd go exclusively AMBIENT SOUND. Nice work, indeed. You're developing your story telling and film techniques rapidly. Good exposures. Very nice editing.
Nicely done dude. It's looking good and that hard work will pay off! 👍
Wow! Amazing job so far! Can't wait for part 2! 💯🤘🤙
Keep em coming Andy... BRILLANT thanks looking forward to pt 2

Always nice to see someone enjoy what they are doing, this will be a few videos I think I'll be watching again to try to learn the craft shown. Just what was needed after the busy week so far, thanks Andy keep well.
Can't wait to see Andy's log cabin
So good to see bush crafting again. Have missed it. Awesome work, Andy. Anxious for the rest of the build.
I've been trying so hard to get a good view of the underside of one of these roofs, and now o finally found it. Thanks for showing multiple angles. Nobody does that
Fantastic to watch you work Andy . You make it look easy but as you say very time consuming. Can't wait for part two though . 👍👍
A video well worth the time to watch sir! Very nice Andy!!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos!
Hi Andy, brilliant video so far👍,I’ve been a carpenter for 35 years, not a chippy hahaha, great to see you using natural straight out the ground timber and some old methods,, this is just a TIP, but on you’re very first cross timber ,if you add a cocking strip on top of that by just easing up the bottom of ur first course of shingles , about 1”/ 1/2” the bottom of the second course will slowly but surely set better on the first course!! I’m not picking mate just giving a tip,, great video look forward to the next step,, Andy
Aww no cooking lol But anyway, thats a good practice Andy for your upcoming cabin build project. Keep safe out there. Watching from the Philippines 🇵🇭
I came across your channel about a month ago when looking through my recommended videos. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of them I've seen. Going back and watch a lot of your content and your review channel has been a good time! Thanks for all the quality content

@@KentSurvival yeah you've definitely been busy!! Looking forward to the next episode. 👍
Im curious about how far those pegs are going down into the timbers underneath. It didn’t look like they were going very far, if any at all.
I Kent resist the temptation of watching this video❤💕
Aby7799 nice
haha
It looks like you're getting the basics down well, Andy. Good idea to practice on a small build first. I look forward to seeing how it goes before the cabin build begins.
hi Sir, still watching from Phils. stay healthy😊
Good day mate, I like hearing in vocal commentary as to what your doing. Not that I don't understand. It's the principle yeah.
Hey Andy , dit wordt een GREAT cabin ... ik blijf je volgen !!
grtz uit Holland , Janneman ...
You're very inspirational Andy...... sending good vibes from Canada.
Brother, that place is going to be sweet, hope to see many over night camps there this winter!!
Serious amount of work there mate, fair play to you! Great vid once again!
Great channel, thank you very much. ❤🙏❤🙏
Thanks Andy ..great video.
Keep these type coming
I'll have to watch later as I'm not sitting still right now. But wanted to say, I've come to learn that all the wood you outdoors men use up (dead wood) is good forest management. It cleans up a bit and lessens the amount of debris that would burn in a wild fire. Be back later this afternoon to watch the whole thing over a glass of wine!
Great job looking forward to part 2
Well done Andy good on you mate 👍🏾
I enjoy watching vids with no talking. Just seeing how things are built or restored is just amazing. But as a beginner I have so many questions, why did you choose that, or do it that way? What did you learn from doing it that way vs others you have tried. Looking forward to more! Thanks for the amazing videos!
Thank you for another great video!
I built a den at the back of my garden in the lockdown... With WiFi and TV everything🤣
superb andy just superb.....even without cooking but simon made me hungry with his video so that makes everything alright with the world lol
breath baited in readiness for part 2 :)
very good idea looking forward to the cabin thanks for sharing
Awesome camera work! Great video as usual. 🙂
got to say this is amazing, the fact is also some day someone gets lost there this little roofed shelter could save a persons life.
Im a big fan of your work man
Outstanding! Best of luck and thanks for sharing...
The bench and clamp used when you were making shingles was quite clever. 👍
Thank you mad woodworking skills!
