I loved the part where you said that design happens in the brain before you start using any apps or tools which I absolutely agree with. I believe that designing digital products is all about solving problems with a mix of creativity and that's so we can align the users' motives with the app's objectives. Kindly correct me, if I'm wrong, anyone? :)
Yes, that's exactly what design is. And there's also (in startups) that other part - finding a product market fit and being all excited about it. Or sometimes just building something you think is cool for the sake of it. It's a fun journey for the brain :)
@@MalewiczHype Thank you for your response! Design can also be done wrong without any conscious effort whatsoever which is why it takes a lot of time and practice before we can learn how to make a design that's effective at what it does.
Thank you so much for sharing so openly about the apps, the technical stuff and even a piece of your gym workout! Love your content, it's always useful and inspiring! And it never ceases to amaze me how you manage to wear a white outfit in every video, I would ruin it the second I have my morning coffee, it's a superpower of yours!☺
First of all, thank you so much for your e-books and videos. I've been following you for many years and learned so much. I think we chatted about Litecoin on Twitter a few years ago. That's around when I started learning web development. I was in the military and was already learning UX/UI design. I'm now a full-time freelance Frontend Unicorn (WordPress). Secondly, I got a Logi MX Lift about a month ago and the difference is huge. I can feel my entire forearm getting f'd up when going to a normal mouse. I also got a Glove80 keyboard. Also huge difference - shoulders, forearms, wrists, fingers. I highly recommend getting a split ergo keyboard. Normal keyboards just can't be ergonomic. Decades of typing will cause RSI sooner or later. The Glove80 seems to be the most ergonomic. Also, QWERTY is a horrible layout. It's only popular because it was the first layout ever used. I'm currently learning the Glorious Engrammer layout, which is great for typing and coding. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work, Michal!
Wow sketching in pen is next level! Haha I would be so nervous. But I guess it makes sense as you may want to go back to things in the future or see your process and iterations over time.
Yeah when I see those different versions with stupid ideas (like I sketched out Mars in the first version, then realized NOBODY will ever be able to run that distance in their lifetime ;))) - I just leave those mistakes in, cross them out but they're there - later on I may think I have a good idea, then realize I had it and already verified it sucks ;)
It's half joking obviously - I live in a 100 year old building (top floor) with very thick walls. My neighbours don't hear my clacking away on the keyboard ;)
Thank you for the mouse recommendation, Michal. After working on the computer for many years with the standard mouse and playing tennis, I feel pain in my wrist. I've just bought an ergonomic mouse for left-handed people. I hope it will help 🙌
Very nice video. I felt mega warm watching it. Of course equipment is not everything, but the comfort we feel spending 10 hours a day on the computer is probably the priority in choosing equipment. It's a pity you didn't mention the chair because it's probably the most important of all :) I'm waiting for the episode about e-commerce :D Have a beautiful day 🫡☀
Sketching things always works wonders. Whenever I am designing, coding or even sometimes writing, I always keep the sketchbook around. But for the designs, I like to keep a bit higher fidelity, use pencil and pen, and a ruler :D Also, cool thing about Sketch. I went from Photoshop to Sketch in, I think, 2014 (back then weren't SaaS, but offered one-time purchase), but then I dropped design for full-time coding and now I am returning and thinking whether I should return to Sketch or Figma. Figma feels... I don't know, kinda cheap, but it's a standard (as I am getting things to code only in Figma, didn't get a Sketch file in years).
Sketch is making a comeback right now, penpot is also a great alternative. In the end it is all really similar, you can use any tool you like, or both.
I tried rive some more and ... well... it's tough. It has some great stuff going but it's really clunky, SVG imports fail all the time and it's just really annoying to work with web apps. I struggled to do something specific in Rive, then ended up coding up the CSS animation from scratch in Sublime in like 20 minutes instead. And it's also small and efficient. Hype is really cool for non-interactive things and quick animations to export as gif/mov.
I am amazed how you're able to find/ideate projects...this is where I struggle. Do you have any tips or suggestions? I'm a huge fan of your no-nonsense style, which makes you relatable. Your videos and materials have been really helpful - much appreciated! That said, I'm probably going to start the Landing Page Challenge this week. BTW - I too use a vertical mouse for the same reasons. LOL
Happy to hear you liked it! As for ideas I always had a lot of them, but generally it's all about being aware of problems then writing down potential solutions. :)
Love this. I’m a platform and app engineer (in AI at the moment) … let me know if you’d like me to code up one of your ideas (freebie). I specialise in zero-build, rapid dev scalable platforms, no FE JS frameworks. Be cool to do something together to see how far we can push the minimal tech stack.
Hey, my name is Yassi, and I am 16 years old. I have been learning programming since I was 14, and I would like to create the web version of your app in plain html or react if you agree to test my knowledge. So far, I haven't made anything really tangible yet, but I know I am capable of doing it. I am also getting into native app development with Expo and React Native. Once I finish learning native development, I will also try to create the native version of your app. Please consider responding to my request.
After a few years doing this you can start slowly shifting away from tools and more into solving problems - on calls or on paper. :) Just takes a while
Depends on the screen. Here it's more of a conceptual part of work - creating the versions of the screen with different cities distances is likely not going to take long.
@@MalewiczHype Oh no, you've triggered my Adobe spider-sense! I'm afraid I'll have to report this grievous transgression to my Adobe overlords. Prepare yourself for a cease and desist letter written entirely in Photoshop brush strokes and delivered via Creative Cloud. May the spirits of Premiere Pro have mercy on your soul! 😜
Can't wait for the coded thing, awesome concept!
In 2025 we'll do one per month! (coded)
YOU NEED TO START A PODCAST. THE DESIGN COMMUNITY WOULD BENEFIT FROM THAT IMMENSLY.
I tried, didn't quite work

I only wear it for videos then immediately take it off 😂
That looks beautiful! 😊 Those kicks at the beginning were unexpected. 😂
Thanks! Yeah sometimes you gotta go a little unexpected but I was asked "what app???" under practically every video ;)
Minimalism at its best ! you are truly authenthic dude !

As for keyboards I feel fine right now, I don't type as much as I used to anymore, mostly the WSAD left hand position from playing quake ;)
video suggestion: how to spot a bad client and what to do
Entertain them first, then the rest is easier

Thanks for sharing these tools, I definetly gonna try Rotato.

The App idea is awesome! I would love to measure my walk and run like that.
Will build it before November for sure!
Wow, you sure make the most out of your hardware! Lots of people get hung up on the latest tech but that's not the goal.
yeah it’s all about the brain really 🫡

Idk man, a human brain is like the most high tech piece of hardware there is.
The best app a designer can use is the one they are born with, yes the 🧠, nothing can replace it. 😄
Always the most important starting point
A tool is only as good as the person using it.

"I just prefer a native app over a web app... so, anyway... next up is Spline".
potentially - yes. I am dabbling with blender too, spline is just easier to learn.
@@MalewiczHype was just joking... if we could post memes I would have posted "Distracted Boyfriend" with Blender as the GF... lol
It is a fair point though! :) Noted!
super useful!
Thank you :)
nice to know you can listen to The XX and Falling in Reverse at the same time Haha
Why at the same time? It's just two stacks because one is too heavy on the shelves - needed to divide it ;)
So, what's the reason to put so much effort just to present a mockup? Presentation for a client? Portfolio?
Nailing the main interaction of the product because it's so simple. Once I totally know how it "feels" to use I can start building it.

Hey how to improve creativity ( if not a creative person) in design, UI thing? I see 3d, animations, more sexy designs...please guide
how you combined properly the icons animation world animation in phone screen
i make my layout designs on powerpoint. 😁😁
A lot of designers in 2005-2009 used powerpoint for sketches and wireframes
Yes, stop holding back on us. Make thise course
Which course?
Do you just send the Sketch files to your clients?
No. Practically never. We usually guide developers (internal or external) on how to code stuff and do QA.
Bro said the best tool is the designer himself
Quick question how do you can actually niche down to design without tools - I hate using 'em
After a few years doing this you can start slowly shifting away from tools and more into solving problems - on calls or on paper. :) Just takes a while
Isn't there a native Figma app for desktop?
no, it’s a wrapper app with a website inside - it looks like an app but isn’t:)
How much time it take to create 1 screen

why dont you use after effects?
