Ahh awesome that’s great news. I’d love to have something I don’t have to profile that just swaps into the carb. Thanks stuart! Also been enjoying you new videos.
Thanks for all that you share Cole. I know a lot of time goes into these videos. Often taking a 2 hour job into a 6 hour+ job. It is appreciated. Go well. Beep, beep - whoosh!
Great video cole, im so pleased its all worked as planned as i know the level of behind the scenes you went into this. So pleased and proud of you mate 😀
Great work mister. Lovely edit is great to seek the little fella out there and going. Love the blow of valve sounds great and the guy in the white truck was like …….”the hell” 🤣
So right! That's the best part, the car can be super mild and chill if you don't wanna drive like a madman and as soon as you want/need the power, downshift and boom off you go.
Cole some of the problems with your welding is your using flux core wire and you didn’t clean all the oil off the part. You want to clean it with acidtone and let it dry before you weld it.
My first step would be to get that filter installed first. You'll probably notice it run even more lean first. Then needle. Dial it in with the spring and dash.
Looks so much fun! Been trying to sleep and seen your comment and thought we’ll this beats counting sheep! Ahahahaha! Up for work again in 5 hours still wide awake. My only criticism is that you didn’t find a tunnel 🤪🤪🤪
Nope side mount doesn’t require any bulkhead modifications. You may have to add a tiny notch to your subframe though depending on what year your subframe is.
Brilliantl thanks for the reply, your mini has pushed me to go for the fusion side mount 🤣 Obviously il need a turbo carb but Do you need the a turbo inlet manifold too or can you use the normal na manifold.? Looks like yours is the standard one
To be totally frank its night and day. The turbo is far and above faster based on my butt dyno. The torque hits dramatically differently and it feels like there is more room for additional power with more boost.
I thought I had my plan sorted to use the vmax supercharger on my 1308cc engine. Then I decided to check in on your channel and I find this turbo build. Drats back to the drawing board. You make this difficult haha
Wow do your windows close easy. With new seals and gaskets i have to go hulk mode to get them to slide. Feels like I’m about to snap the plastic locks off.
Really want to do this on my 998, I don’t want to ditch the motor since she’s a reliable runner. If the bigger motor is easier and more sustainable to boost, I might be compelled that way
I know there are lots of people who have turbocharged their 998s with great results. I am not sure what kind of supporting mods you’d need but I’m like 85% sure there are omega forged deep dish pistons for the 998.
I have tried before but I could never get it quite right haha. Ended up bringing it to a pro who did a hand manual alignment at his old Porsche shop. Made a HUGE improvement.
From what I can tell it was just sucking too much and with the fuel pump hole breathing location, it was just GULPING oil. Now that I have the rocker separating the oil and I only get ventilation from the timing cover and transfer case, I am going to try hooking it back up and seeing what happens.
I hadn’t heard of this before. I think it might be overkill for this setup as a short time idling after a hard drive will serve the same need but I’ll have to store this away for later. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@classicminidiy yes that will work but timer allows you to leave car and will idle at different parameters in order to protect the turbo oil from burning
Hey Jon, I have never had any issues with the X-series AEM gauge but I think the reason reviews are all over the place, is that the O2 sensors are SUPER fragile. Specifically in their wiring. So it's very easy to mess up the sensor during installation or install it improperly. That said, getting a new sensor is as simple as buying a replacement and plugging it in.
Good stuff mate. Thanks for the shout out. 😎
Thanks for all the help!
Enjoyed this video. David Vizard was my bedtime reading as a youngster. Remember profiling the needle and ramping the internals of the SU....
BCA was the needle supplied with the 1985 Turbotechnics metro intercooler kit for running 14 psi, that should cover it , great vid!
Ahh awesome that’s great news. I’d love to have something I don’t have to profile that just swaps into the carb. Thanks stuart! Also been enjoying you new videos.
You need to have a shroud on your mig torch. If you are using a no gas set up then that's your problem with bad welds
Retro 80s it’s a flux welder not a MIG they dont use gas

Sounds awesome Cole!
Thank you! That blow off valve is intoxicating to be honest hahaha.
Great video cole, im so pleased its all worked as planned as i know the level of behind the scenes you went into this.

Hi Cole, great to see the turbo mini finally hit the road! With obvious results! Sounds cool 😎
Look out people, I'm coming through! 🚙 😊
This sounds amazing buddy!! Congratulations man I’m sure you’re super stoked with it now running after the journey you’ve had.
Thank you so much! Yes I’m over the moon. Now it’s time for road trips
Blow off valve noise! So worth the wait. Sounds great.
🥰 it’s so good.
Great & interesting video on your turbo engine!
Congratulations 🎉
Great work mister. Lovely edit is great to seek the little fella out there and going. Love the blow of valve sounds great and the guy in the white truck was like …….”the hell” 🤣
Thanks Paul! Yeah I have received some hilarious looks as I pull past people on the road. Namely on the highway people are like da fuq?
That’s the most best part of turbo power in a mini it’s really subtle. My screaming N/A motors are less so hahaha
So right! That's the best part, the car can be super mild and chill if you don't wanna drive like a madman and as soon as you want/need the power, downshift and boom off you go.
Loving the WHOOSH Cole,. Congratulations on all your hard work paying off.
Thank you! 🥰
Glad to see the mini finaly running. Congratulations.
Thank you!

Finally so happy for you love your work Cole !
Thank you Brad!
What a beast! Congrats on the first runs. I hope you have many days of happy motoring going forward.
Thank you so much Michael.
Nice vid Cole. Glad you’re doing this now as I will be doing it in the spring. Great to hear you’re happy with the power…so far!
Thank you! Best of luck to you in your build, any help you need feel free to reach out. I’ll try to help out if I can.

Merry Christmas Cole 🎅🏻 Looks and sounds mega, well done! 😎
Thanks Mark! How are your projects coming along?

Hahaha we don’t have many tunnels near me but I’m sure I could find some in the mountains 👀
Brilliant mate, sounds great. you must be chuffed.
Looks and sounds great.. Did you have to do a bulkhead mod for this to fit.?
Nope side mount doesn’t require any bulkhead modifications. You may have to add a tiny notch to your subframe though depending on what year your subframe is.

Thanks! Doooooo itt!!!
wow just wow. it pulls
Nice work Cole! Have a great Christmas and happy new year 👍🎅🏼
Thank you and you too!
What’s your first impression on how it feels compared with your old supercharger?
To be totally frank its night and day. The turbo is far and above faster based on my butt dyno. The torque hits dramatically differently and it feels like there is more room for additional power with more boost.
good stuff.......wishing you all the best for the new year!
Thank you. You too!

Lol sorry about that . Yeah I went the VMAX route and this ended up being a better suit for me and my car long term. Turbos are COOL. :-)
Congrats Cole, 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
Yes going well!!
Ive a single box 2" maniflow to go on mine.....haha, gonna sound awesome!!!
Nice! Thats awesome, is it side exit or center exit?
@@classicminidiy Side exit! I’ll have to mod the rear valance for a nice fit too!
Wow do your windows close easy. With new seals and gaskets i have to go hulk mode to get them to slide. Feels like I’m about to snap the plastic locks off.
I can barely keep mine closed. 🤣 that’s what those little blue rubber magnets are for.

Here i am wanting to turbo an 850
Sounds so good!
Thank you! 🥰
I hope you have some 1/4mile times and acceleration numbers that you can compare your mini when it’s N/A vs supercharged vs turbo.
Supercharger never ram right and I don’t drag cars. That said I have power and torque figures from the NA engine that I will compre this one with.
this is wonderful
You’re wonderful
Suggest trying to do a string alignment! I'll be trying it out soon on my 04 Mini
FCPEuro has a great video talking through string alignments
I have tried before but I could never get it quite right haha. Ended up bringing it to a pro who did a hand manual alignment at his old Porsche shop. Made a HUGE improvement.
Nice turbo sound! I thought yellow spring was 8oz?
I couldn’t remember and meant to correct that in my edit 😓 whoops
I just want to get my mini on the road 😩
Sounds healthy, the front end seems a bit noisy, maybe double check everything is tight. Howdy from SOCAL.
Good idea. What part of the video seemed noisy specifically? I had a rattly door that I fixed when filming these lol
@@classicminidiy yeah right there at the end, the passenger side seemed a bit rattly
Oh yes for sure that was a loose bolt in the external hinges. Tightened it up and the squeak is totally gone! 🎉
Cole, what was the issue with the pcv?
From what I can tell it was just sucking too much and with the fuel pump hole breathing location, it was just GULPING oil. Now that I have the rocker separating the oil and I only get ventilation from the timing cover and transfer case, I am going to try hooking it back up and seeing what happens.
@@classicminidiy I thought it went to the rocker cover in the first place! I didn't realise you'd put it to the fuel pump hole!
sounds nice, forgot how uncomfortable minis are
😂 fact. Minis are def not ergonomic.
Get yourself a turbo timer to protect that turbo.
Where is the alternator?
It’s relocated down under the intercooler
🥳
Did you see any problems with your chosen brand of AFR gauge? Reviews are all over the place...

So it's very easy to mess up the sensor during installation or install it improperly. That said, getting a new sensor is as simple as buying a replacement and plugging it in.
Nice car but so tacky and cheap with and externally venting dump/blow off valve, Nice car ruined by a very boy racer-ish tacky add on
🤣 k
Haha boomer opinions.
But I suppose it was different in the living years.
You need a dump valve on a turbo car should be law. 👍🏻 Great build
