I challenge you to go all balls out in practice -- balls to the wall -- long running at a fast pace, and 400 (70 or faster) and 800 meter (2:30 or faster) intervals at a cooking pace. You only live once, young man! Intensity is better than long slow distance at this point.
The guy who came in first place (14:59.81) was actually a club runner who ran unattached. The guy who came in second place (15:00.62) runs for a community college. Even with the rain, you ran a great race!

I'm also a sophomore, we have the same 5k PR, which I set last week, but I'm more of a distance guy so my 2 mile is only 11:43 and my 1 mile is only 5:25

I have the opposite problem pretty much 0 speed but ok endurance my 5k pb is 15:57
I don't run the mile in my country but I do do the 1500
