  • This lap could have been a quick one, despite early traffic, but the Audi A3 accident and the broken down car after Karrussel prevented me from being able to push hard. Still, some fun moments to be seen when I see a clear track and I'm able to attack the corners for a bit.
Those keen enough will notice this is the cabin sound, as I had messed up the main camera's mic right before and I had to use the interior sound, which is noticeable muted and toned down compared to the raw engine sound from the other clips. Hopefully this will be the last one with this setup.
Also, I hope you appreciate being able to see my footwork, Best Motoring style!
    Better laps still to come!
    Car specs:
    Drivetrain:
    Bone stock engine.
ZW30 gearbox and Torsen LSD. It has different ratios: taller final, hence why I don't need to shift into 5th, and a closer 1st and 2nd in comparison with the original gearbox.
    Suspension:
    RS*R Ti2000 springs
    KYB Excel-g dampers
    Whiteline rear sway bar
    Poliurethane bushings
    Tires:
F:195/50R15 Advan AD08RS (new compound to comply with the new EU efficiency ruling). 1.8bar
R:205/50R15 Advan AD08R. 2.3bar (raised the pressure on the rear slightly 0,2bar compared to the first day, to get a bit of rotation in some areas and worked very nicely)
    Brakes:
Bone stock replacement parts (rotors, pads and DOT4 fluid). Not even braided brake lines. This setup had been ok at the track until arriving at the Nurburgring. In the previous tracks I've driven the car the speed was never this high, but here this cheap setup was really struggling and had to manage them every lap at the harder braking areas. I wish I had my Winmax pads, as I did on my 86.
    Alignment:
    F: 6deg caster, -1,6ish deg camber, 0.05ish toe in.
    R: - 1,2ish deg camber, 0.15ish toe in.
    Weight:
Measured 2500lbs/1100kg with me in it and a full tank. Subtract the weight of the spare wheel, jack and toolset which I've removed for the track.

Setting of the mr2 seems crazy stable.
Well, it shows how good the driver is. 🤙

Haaha thanks! Not bad for the biggest so-called lift-off-oversteer-death-trap on all of the internets, right?
My most recent mod was actually a staggered set of tires: 195 fronts and 205 rears, to help with rear stability at high speeds.
You can still see in the faster turns even now it's quite lively!

      @@YoShImUrA53Yeap. :)
Not even mentioning that staggered tyres make cars even cooler.
Internets are usually people who don't even have a driving license. Let alone driven a real car, not on ps4/xbox.

I appreciate the footwork camera A LOT! it's half the thing.
Question: how do you feel the rear sway bar affected the overall behavior? Tell me a bit about it if you don't mind please, it'll be good help

      Glad you like it!
It was a great update once dialed in the rest of the package, but in isolation I wouldn't recommend it.
At first it created a lot of traction loss while accelerating with the rear inner tire.
Fortunately, fitting the ZW30's gearbox and Torsen LSD fixed that and allowed the rear to rotate more easily, making the rear more throttle-adjustable (not by a huge deal, but noticeable enough for me).
Then, at the track, the car had a lot of progression at breakaway, which lead to smooth but undesired rotation (oversteer) at high speed. It scrubbed off a lot of speed, and wasn't effective. Fun and, being smooth, "safe", but not quick.
Finally, after fitting the new staggered set of tires (195/205) I ended up with a tad of overall understeer at the Nurburgring (not the worst deal, considering the wheelbase to track width ratio and moment of polar inertia from this platform), which I was able to tone down just enough by raising rear tire pressures ever so slightly (0,2bar) from my baseline, which was F:2.1, R:2.3bar.

      Thank you for the feedback!
Well, that question was made having a zzw30 in mind that's not going to be tracked, so I'm guessing it'll probably work just well enough. Suspension is already mildly addressed and this was thought to reduce a little body roll at the rear when cornering, mostly lower speeds.
Staggered tires will be a must and I think it'll be ready to go.
Thanks for sharing man! This channel is Highly appreciated!

@@anunknowndude very recommended to fit a rear sway and expect to eventually get also a front one. It's also a great tool to easily dial-in the balance of the car, being adjustable on both ends. Worst case you can go back to stock and sell them for a small loss.

Brilliant driving, hope I can do the same with mine in the future. quick question though: why do you have a taller final drive and what is the benefit of that?

    • @YoShImUrA53
      @YoShImUrA53  3 роки тому

Thanks! Partly due to what I had available for a gearbox replacement at the time, when one of my half shafts decided to release itself and crack my original transmission's case. My only readily available option was the third gen MR2's (ZZ30 AKA MR-S) C56 unit. Also, due to the fact this is my main daily driver, and I do a ton of highway miles, I am really happy with the tall gear ratio, especially for 5th gear, where I can cruise at 75mph at barely 3300 rpm, rather than the previous 4200-ish rpm. But if I were to rebuild the ring and pinion, I would probably opt to also install a taller 5th that is also available from Toyota, and switch from the stock C56's 3.8 and go back to 4.3, as the other gears have made the car noticeably less "alive" when rolling through them.
