This worked great for installing a spoiler onto my highlander. The only issue I ran into was the spoiler came from a junk yard and it has a stud that is used for locating it when installing at the factory so it wouldn't lay flat. I just drilled a hole magically in the right spot (i actually have no idea how i got it right, but it was perfect) then your method for the two bolt holes. Worked like a charm and its perfectly even
I got the same one for my Race Red '17 GT. Didn't have the nerve to do it myself, found an awesome panel shop that did it for me. I never got the template with the spoiler package either, but the guy just said, give me an hour or a bit and I'll get it done. Literally did the same thing you did. I asked over three shops that were "specialized" in vehicle work. None were game and one was like "go it yourself." I would love to do this kind of stuff myself but I know...just know, I'll stuff it up. Good video, awesome to see how it's done every step. You made it look so easy!
This video was super helpful! Installed a performance pack spoiler yesterday, but boy was it some hard work being an amateur at this😅 Messed up a little bit on the lining up the drilled holes, so had to make a few holes bigger. Also lost a screw in the trunk and broke a drill bit, but was successful after 7-8 hours lol
Great video! I'm thinking about getting one of these spoilers for my car. There's lots of cheap ones on ebay but none of them have instructions or templates so I was planning on paying a shop to install it. After watching your video, I think ill be able to install it myself and save a bit of money 👍
This is NOT a dumb question. The GT350 spoilers I have installed used M6x1.00 threaded screws. Some of the lengths varied depending on the hardware that came with the spoiler. However, the ones in this video look to be 10mm long (M6-1.0 x 10mm Flanged Button Head Screws). If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.
That's not a dumb question. Fortunately, with this installation, we haven't experienced any water issues. However, it's recommended to use double-sided tape (3M) in addition to bolts when installing a spoiler. The tape acts as a gasket. In this video, the owner opted out for adding the tape.
This is amazing. Where are ya'll located? I'm also wondering if you customize spoilers? I have a spoiler that I'd love to be customized into a Batwing. Good video btw!
Thank you very much. We are on the east coast. Not a lot of custom work. For the Mustangs, only custom Subwoofer Boxes and Engine cover. Everything else is OTC purchases.
Awesome video. Gonna be installing a performance pack spoiler soon. Quick question, would it be worth to add a washer between the nut and bolt to keep it secure/water seal it?
Flange nut might be better (less things to risk dropping). If you want a seal, verify your new spoiler has double-sided tape (similar to the orange Mustang) , or you can add RTV around the hole. Thank you for the posting feedback and support.
You are always free to ask questions. If the spoiler already has threaded studs, it does make the alignment task a little challenging. I had a few ideas on how to approach this task. One method would be to used cardboard or poster board (you may need to glue two pieces together) and trace out the bottom of the spoiler on it. Push or cut out the studs through the cardboard to create the holes. Once complete, transfer the cardboard template to the car and perform your measurements/alignment there.
Nice video! Very informative. One question though What about waterproofing the holes ? Will the water not pass through the holes into the vehicle if it rains or in a car wash ? This is something that I used to be always curious about installing aftermarket spoilers
Thank you. Typically, 3M tape is also used in conjunction with the mechanical fasteners. The tape acts as a gasket or seal. Fortunately for this spoiler install, the screw holes were aligned just right, and the screws maintained a tight seal.

Good question. That was known by previous doing this on my Mustang and by touch. You can put your finger on the outer hole and estimate where it is on the other side. The hole on the inside does not have to be perfect. That is why the hole was much bigger.
Hey I’ve got a question, what can you do if you have holes already from a previous or stock spoiler and want to put a different spoiler on but the holes aren’t for the same place.
Typically, 3M tape is also used in conjunction with the mechanical fasteners. The tape acts as a gasket or seal. Fortunately for this spoiler install, the screw holes were aligned just right, and the screws maintained a tight seal.
9/32" is correct for drill bit size. A majority of spoiler screws for the Mustang is an M6. So, the hole is slightly bigger to allow a clean install and allow some room for play/flexibility.
When you’re trying to drill the actual hole into metal, to make sure you use the correct drill bit size to drill, are you making sure that the screw you’re going to install fits inside that hole that you drilled but not the screw’s washer right? First time doing this. Please advise, thank you!
@@mcgurrentertainment it wasn’t easy but I got it installed. My drill bit broke while drilling the last hole on the trunk , and it left dings on some of the areas nearby. I had to use touch up paint on it. I also accidentally dropped a screw into my trunk during testing/installing so I was trying to fish it out with a Magnet stick but failed. So ima see if I can a replacement screw from the vendor. I had to drill additional holes inside trunk too which was not easy and had to remove excessive remnants/metal. I did manage to measure and drill the holes pretty accurately so was able to install 3/4 screws for now. I got tons of scratches inside my trunk but it’s a 2011 mustang so w/e but I really wanna get that lost screw that fell inside a hole in the linings of my trunk. Any ideas?
Not really. Ideally, 3M double-sided tape is used in conjunction with the mechanical fasteners. However, there is very little/no play in the bolt & bolt holes; minimizing room for water. If your spoiler does not have double-sided tape, you may use RTV around the holes.
Thank you very much. Hmmm, studs on the spoiler does make it more difficult to find the correct position (without scratching the paint). I'll see if I can come up with a method to make that process easier.
Just a quick question on how do we keep water from getting into the trunk after drilling holes on them. Do we need additional silicon ring or other stuff to prevent that from happening? Just got my car and I can’t wait to throw a spoiler on it

Thank you. It's not difficult at all. Lining up the spoiler is the time consuming step, everything else is easy. Race red.. bet that looks good.
That method of making a template is so simple I feel like an idiot for not thinking of it!
Just used this method to install a GT350R spoiler on my GT350. The hole punch card stock /idea was amazing!!
That's awesome!!!! Kudos 👏
Those tail lights look so good

I said the same thing! Beautiful 😍

Holy cow, you had a full day's work. Hopefully, all your hard work was not in vain, and it turned out the way you wanted it.
nice and thorough video! that gave me more confidence to install my spoiler on my nissan maxima.
Thank you very much!!!! If I can install a spoiler, anyone can. I am not an expert. 🤫
Thanks for this, the bond has failed on my spoiler and needs bolting properly. Simple way to make an accurate template 👍
Thank you very much. Let me know if you have any questions.

Just installed mine with these same idea, thank you so much! It was really easy!

Awesome tutorial, worked perfectly thank you.
That's awesome!!! I'm glad it helped. 😃
Great video will be using that to install a cobra spoiler on my new edge project thanks
That's going to look awesome, kudos 👏
Ffs why didnt i find this earlier, i done mine ok but this was so much simpler
I'm sorry...I let you down....

The taillights scream "I watched Ferrari v Ford and couldn't pick a side." LOL
They're different....
@mcgurrentertainment I'm confused, what did u screw on the screws too?
Where do you see this?
@@mcgurrentertainmentthe tailights resemble ones off a 488 GTB, and well they’re on a mustang….
Great info thanks….
Thank you for the support
Should I add a weather strip under the spoiler to avoid water from getting into those screw areas and under the spoiler?
That or 3M double-sided tape would be ideal. Good question
Not a fan of the tail lights, but the spoiler makes up for it!
Spoilers add flavor to the Mustangs, that's for sure.
Thank You
No, thank you!!!

whats to prevent water coming thru the screw holes when it rains

Hey man, great video. I have a question, I purchased the same spoiler, what size screws do we need to drill? 9/32 is what I saw but I want to clarify
9/32" is correct for drill bit size. A majority of spoiler screws for the Mustang is an M6. So, the hole is slightly bigger to allow a clean install and allow some room for play/flexibility.

Yes, you want the screw threads to fit through the hole, but not the screw head nor washer. These were M6 screws (6mm), so we drilled a ~7mm hole.
@@mcgurrentertainment thank you, just wanted to make sure. I’ll give it a go today, let ya know how it went

The most effective method would be to unbolt the trunk and turn it upside down while agitating it. It's a pain, but it works.
does the threadlock prevent leaks as well?

Most spoilers come with 3M double-sided tape already attached. This will act as a gasket to prevent leaks.
Concern for Water leak into the trunk? 😅
So far, so good; no issues. As long as the screws are tight, you should be OK.
Faucet/hose washers around the bolt holes! easy
where did you get those tail lights?
No clue. Wasn't my Mustang
@@mcgurrentertainment ohhh ok 👌🏾
Do I have to use a stepper drill or can I just use the right size bit?
You can use the correct size bit. Just be careful, because going to a big bit can catch the metal and cause it to misshapen.
dont you have to add some seal? Or is it tight enough?
Typically, 3M tape is also used in conjunction with the mechanical fasteners. The tape acts as a gasket or seal. Fortunately for this spoiler install, the screw holes were aligned just right, and the screws maintained a tight seal.

About an hour. 2 hours, if you take your time.
