    This channel has become, not only one of my favorites, but one of the most informative ones for advancing in lawn care and landscaping.
    I actually want to go help for free on a home demolition, just for the fun and experience. ( Sick I know..lol )

    "13 14 15 years old that's silly, no kids that young are engaged in this kind of work,"
    I disagree- this is when their dreams start, this is when they are either seeing possibilities, opportunities and open doors-or just problems, and reasons why it isn't "meant for them." This comment came in today and is the reason I make sure to include the kids.: DA KING RT Wrote: " I appreciate your videos and advice. I am 16 and I dream of having a Landscaping Bussiness in the future, again thanks for the tips." To me that kid has a future.

      Didn't u start with ur old man when u were 11? I also have a friend that is 38 now, but started mastering the art of the shovel when he was 9 with his old man. When he was 18 started his own concrete company and quickly passed up his teacher and now is doing extremely well for himself. All heavy equipment paid for and just loving his independence. He does what u do and manages. You will never see him with a tool belt. And his three year old son knows the name and job of every heavy equipment with his tonkas playing in the dirt. Keep inspiring Stanley. Very few in this generation with the passion to work hard.

      Randy Mikhaiel I was on the job with my Dad at 4. Then when I turned 11 I got a promotion and didn't have to work for free anymore-I got $.25 an hour. This work ethic and memory has always been there-because of that.

    That's kinda how I learned my line of work. Mostly self taught, but I would sub out a lot of work and work along side them as a laborer and in return I was able to ask how, why, and let me try that. That's was years ago. I kinda wish I never learned half of the stuff I learned and just continued subbing out work. Lol!

      Aaron Melo-Martinez Collecting is a huge part of running a business- My Terms are as follows: $100 down-thats to schedule the project. 1/2 due as soon as we start-ie once the equipment arrives at the house we collect 1/2. Then after the project is completed we get final payment.

    In seattle millionaires club does day labor. I call them they have skilled craftsman who may have years vcc experience but booze problem. They sent out an old school guy who could do hand texture. Agreed to buy him food and booze at end of day. Got six hour work ftom him . He was expert appreciated showing off his skill. Otherwise go on job sites and hire for side jobs. By plumbers electricians etc. They know suppliers and can get product from wholesalers for you.

    Hey, Stanley
    I gotta say that I'm impressed with your videos, I think you have great communication skills, you lay out your ideas in a functional maner, the info you give out is not overwhelming, I LOVE IT. I'm a small business owner, I got into outdoor lighting this year and I like it a LOT but just as any other new business I don't' have enough leads coming in yet but I'm determent to keep my guys busy, I'm experimenting with new business, since we started outdoor lighting this year maybe a good add on would be landscaping or lawn maintenance to be able to keep my guys on the road all the time without killing my pocket but I do think I need a smart/experienced & legit business mentor, do you have any kind of mentorship? or do you know anybody that does? if you do please share that with me, I live in Dallas Texas great city for business, thank you Stanley I hope you can point me in the right direction

I know I will have to add for the rental of the equipment, pickup and delivery charges, and any other expenses.

    Do you recommend focusing on one part of landscaping vs all the landscape work out there. Landscape is a huge industry. Should i, while growing my company from lawn care into landscaping focus on patios and retaining walls (where the money is bigger) over lawn mowing. Considering the fact that im looking for BIGGER jobs (more money) and not MORE jobs (lawns).?

    Excellent topic! I am dealing with this now. I want to offer a broader range of services but I lack experience. I will look for opportunities to work for little to no pay in areas where I wish to improve with a disclaimer to the client just as you suggested. That sounds like solid advice.
    What about subcontracting out some work you're not comfortable or qualified to do and supervising the work to learn that way? How do you go about subcontracting? My concern would be them taking work away from you. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @Dirtmonkey
      @Dirtmonkey  9 років тому +2

      James L Thats a Great idea! Hire a proffesional to complete the task with one term-you get to work and learn from them as they do it. They may even offer to let you see some of their other sites. I have done this with Concrete contractors(something I don't do) and became friends.

  • @dankruger2890

    Awesome. Everything you say is so true. Life just seems so short and the days not long enough. So much to learn and do. I am a concrete contractor working in concrete since 16 years old and started the business at 25 (RockHard Concrete on You Tube) And we are venturing into retaining wall, demolition and roofing. Its hard to start something new. So far it has been well worth the effort and fun.
