I have already completed 2 mulching jobs using this approach. I have made substantial profits!!
Thanks Stanley
Stanley"DirtMonkey" Genadek you just helped me out so much im starting to get into mulch and had no clue how to bid a job. Thanks for lending us all your knowledge it really helps us guys with small or new businesses out a lot
+Engine 65 Productions Thanks for watching!
Does the 2$ sqft include install of fabric and mulch?
I used this formula exactly and it worked out really good. Now i know why i allways lost money doing mulch, now with this info it wont happen again! I measured the property and it came out to $1300. Me and my helper looked at each other because we thought we did something wrong. Ran the numbers again and no mistakes. I was so nervice because the price was so high, i put the cheaper bid for edging on top, handed to this guys wife, then ran away before she could read it. Did the job. It turned out really good.
ANYTHING ON BIDDING!
thanks.
The How To Go To Typically its a high number all by itself but it is also safe for you the installer. I am guessing you made $1,000 that day using this formula. Always feel free to change the numbers up or down as your "gut" tells you. But for a blind bid-this is safe.
Stanley Genadek Landscape and Construction Business Pro I would have made about 1000 but the home owner talked me down to 1100. So after paying 2 guys and materials i made just over $500. Thats before taxes.
In two of your videos now you have mentioned using landscape fabric under mulch. Standard practices around here and if you do research on it is that weed barrier is not recommended. Over time bark decomposes and makes a layer of muck/compost that encourages the weeds to root deeper and penetrate the fabric. Mulch should be applied with pre-emergent herbicide and no weed barrier in my professional view. Or maybe take a survey of how many landscapers use weed barrier to get a good idea of what the common practices are in the landscape trade depending on geographic area.
I concur. I have been Gardening sincebzi was 4 with my ma. I received my master Gardening certification from Purdue University. One must understand how soil loses nutrients. If you aren't adding compost frequently, your soil is never getting fed. I use a fine shredded bark mulch. Not only do you get rid of those huge logs from crap mulch, you end up having great organic matter that breaks down and gives you incredible soild. Fabric results in the death of your soul. It kills the good bacteria. Plastic or fabric if you must use it under a medium, use it under rock. Only. Still lovin your videos. Together we make each other great!
that is the reason that we can't charge a fair price there are people who are not willing to pay 100 dollars for you to deliver them a yard of mulch prep the bed and spread it with fsbric but they also won't do it themselves so they find the brand new scared guy to do it and talk them down to doing a mulch job for 30 cents per sq ft. those guys go out of busniess and the industry average price of mulch installing goes down. it's sad. but anyways thank you I learned how to calculate and have an exact formula for mulch from this video so thanks again! keep them coming your helping alot of people
Thanks Steve- and your absolutely right on how people talk the new guys down to nothing.
it's your duty to stick to your prices and stay firm, what customers do to the new guy is out of your control. when he goes out of business people who have firm prices will stabilize the industry pricing
as you speak I take note.. good teaching I fell like I was in the first row back in school.. happy holidays.
+Gelson Montalvo Thats awesome- Gelson- Thank you!
Idk what I'd do without you brother, thank you.
Thanks! :)
Shawn Diaz- Great topic to cover. I built then sold a deck renewal and finishing company. I still do consulting for them. I could produce a video talking about the numbers for that kind of work if that would help. Pressure washing and resealing or staining.
Hey did you ever make that video?
I can't believe I haven't thought of this idea of just having a formula and figuring out how long each square foot will cost and anything like that, I'm under 16 so I can't really get into landscaping much but this idea could easily be used in lawncare as well. Thank you!
Hey there Stanley, I would like to say thank you for doing this video, It really puts things into perspective and is really informative on understanding the formula for bidding so clients feel equal. I will definitely be using it in my first year of business this year. Thank you and Keith and geek, you guys have been my inspiration to get my dream to become a reality.
You're welcome and good luck! 🙂
I do not do mulching as a business but I did make some raised beds by my circle driveway. I used my John Deere tractor with front end loader to move 5 cubic yards of mulch. I had to shovel the mulch from the bed of my truck into the bucket of tractor then dump it where needed in the beds. I can testify, even using the tractor 5 yards of damp bulk mulch weighs a shitload. It is well worth the $2 to $3 as stated installed. I know if I were to do someone else's yard I wouldn't do it for much less solely based on the amount of labor involved. Just my 2cents. If you are one of the guys that does it for $85 a yard which equates to .85 sq ft. Installed. You would have to do 4 to 5 jobs to make the same amount as one job based on $2 to $3 sq ft. somif you lost 4 jobs and got one by bidding correctly you made just as much for 4 time less work. No brained to me but that's just me.
Great job on explaining the formula and how to charge for profit.Thank you for helping us new guys out. Really appreciate.
Glad it helps!
Great info man! Yes it varies by area. My formula is 2" deep. I'll take my square footage total and / by 162 to get my cubic yard total needed. So about 6 yards for every 1,000 sq ft. For 4 hours of work I'll make $600. Minus overhead and materials, a profit of $500. Very informative as always, I live at the BEACH and keep it fair like you mentioned. If someone wanted the bed edged I'd charge by the hour + by the foot. Maticulous work is adored by the customers, especially the wifeys. Haha.
☼Tropical Detailing☼ Thanks- I love your break down and how you work it. Appreciate the info.
Awesome video, I was avoiding land scaping like the plague, I'm feeling more confident after watching this.
A-Veteran Lawn Care Make sure to check out some of the other videos for bidding and estimating. If there is any special requests for a video topic-just let me know:)
Stanley Genadek Landscape and Construction Business Pro Will do. Thanks.
Man all your videos are great and very knowledgeable. A while ago last year you told me the only way I was going to make it was to become a jack of all trades and master two. Well that has worked out great for me and was very profitable and this year is looking even better. Just got your book and it is great. Again thanks for all the advice and I will be leaving great reviews on your book!
+Sumner's Thanks you Sumners!
I recently got a job to raise a ladys yard with topsoil so the water when it rained would roll away from the house and not just lay in low lying areas flooding the yard making it basically unusable. She also have two very large trees in the front yard which don't help the low lying areas this helped me quite a bit figuiring out how to give her an estimate.
+Jason Ayers Awesome- glad it helped.
Great advice. I love the video. It gives a good base to anyone who wants to start. Every business is different, so the numbers should be different. Every business needs to know how much it needs to stay in business.
+Danis Benitez You hit the nail on the head- exactly.
Awesome video. I have the exact same method for estimating. I have everything down to sq ft estimating. Simple and universal. I even estimate leaf clean-up by sq ft lol.
Thank you !
your so right. that's a positive and right way to view it.
😃Thanks!
anyone who knows what they are doing will never use fabric. It helps for about 6 months with weed control and then after that its a waste.
Good point, but if you could make an extra .10 a sq. foot why wouldn't you? Just a thought.
anyone who knows what their doing, knows the fabric is for more than weed control.
Anyone that knows what "they're" doing. Oops, I guess you don't. Fabric BLOWS!! It serves no real purpose other than to create a mess when the mulch decomposes or displaces. Real weeds are not inhibited by any fabric. You can generate the additional revenue that was lost by not laying fabric, by applying non-selective and pre emergent herbicide prior to mulching. Sprinkle a little on top after you're done.
Phattygoodness you got me their.
You’re right, there’s no use for fabric in a bed, period. Geo-textile is for specific retaining wall and paver installations. Other than that, this is a great video.
I charge my customers by the cubic yard, usually between $70-$100 dollars per yard depending on the town I am working in. I always estimate an extra yard into the price to "save my ass" if my estimate is off. So far is has been working out for me, I live in an area with a lot of competition but also a lot of high end clientele
+Jordan Reid So many good ways to get it done. Glad your system is working out.
wow this is some really great stuff! thanks for taking the time to teach such useful things to those that are less experienced. im a new owner of a landscape company and im inspired by a lot of how you run your business
Jack Freeman Thanks! Good to hear from you- I appreciate the feedback-it keeps me going!
no problem! you just got a new subscriber
Awesome Videos Man!! Very helpful
Here in Atlanta GA people don't want to pay more than $65 per cubic yard. this guy is charging 250 per yard. It would be great if people paid that here. :D
Thank you
Great video and breakdown. I've been looking for something like this so I can plan for 2019.
Appreciate that Nick, thank you !
Wait so using this prices as a rough idea, that would be 216 a yard not including fabric?
we used to make good money at mulch here in Michigan but lately in the last few years people are so hard up there willing to work for next to nothing and driving the going rate down.
just last week he seemed a bib from another lawn care company that spread out 20 yards of shredded mulch for multi-million-dollar condo complex for $80.00 labor .
That was a very interesting video but i must say, them prices may not fly in my neighborhood. I fill my dump truck with approx 6 yards of mulch, raise the bed, get in the bobcat and scoop directly out the bed to the location and spread with the bucket. If i am gentle i can pour it over a plant without any damage and rake flat with a spring rake. I can spread about 50 yards a day all by myself if i had a job that size but I usually dont do mulch, im a tree climber. I charge 100$ per hour and accomplish more with my tools than any amount of helpers can do. If i charged 2$ per sq ft id be retired already lol, but i AM going to bid that 2$ next time n see how it goes
in my area mulch is anywhere from 15 to 35 per yard so we charge anywhere from 65 to 85 per yard to install. unfortunately we dont have a mulch thrower yet so labor costs are high and our profits much lower than they could be. with a 3 man crew we do 20-40 yards in a day, sometimes more depending on the complexity of the beds among other things, so that comes out to 30 man hours at 15 an hour per guy so 450 in labor. 40 yds at 35 per yrd is 1450 + 450 labor and maybe 50-100 for fuel is 1900 for the day in costs. 40 yds times 85 is 3400 - 1900 is 1500 in profit for that day. if we had a mulch thrower we could to 2-3 times that equating to 3000-4500 in profit for a single day with a 3 man crew. we dont lay fabric and bed preparation is done days before hand at a separate cost. (best case scenario math)
Awesome, thanks for take your time to teach others, be bless
i give a price per yard installed rate of $200. min charge of 1 yard which costs $50 avg where i am. fabric is not included and i dont do it unless the customer asks. if im doing it then its $50 a yard more installed. same goes for edging. if its being re edged or wasnt in the first place then its $1 a foot more. so if i do a 3 yard job with 60ft of edging which is pretty average and i have to re edge and do fabric then it would be $810 and take me most of a whole day and be around $200 in materials
Thank you Stan! Saved me big time.
Thank you! Very helpful video.
You're welcome! Really glad to hear it !
This is great advice, thanks for teaching us to be successful! I really learned a lot from your videos.
+Main Man That is awesome I really hope you succeed!
A thousand likes and thanks!! I've watched a bazillion videos on this and no joy but your breakdown was exactly what I needed. I've got it committed to my notebook! I'm going to become a retired PO at the end of the summer so I'm going back to my roots and doing lawn care for my retirement gig. Trying to get going now so I can have a customer base started for when the day comes. One question.....on the job you bid $375 in your other video....was that for weeding and prep etc because according to your formula that job should have been a $200 bid? I'm just trying to get it squared in my small noggin....for some reason this is one of those bids I struggle with. Thanks again for the awesome videos, they truly help a lot!!
+Eric Boutin I have a highly detailed video on bidding mulch over at DirtMonkey university. I break down a $10,000 actual mulch job on a commercial site and go over all the formulas so anybody can do the same thing.
great information, brother. i look forward to seeing your other videos. thanks for sharing.
kodiak wild Appreciate it!
So premium mulch is 3.00$ a square foot. 100sq feet is a yard. So for example, a 10 yard mulch job, 1000sq feet x 3.00$ = 3000$ . I live in New Jersey, pretty wealthy area, and the highest is around a 110$ a yard installed. About 1100.00$ job. Am I missing something? Is your mulch very expensive, why the insanely high prices? I'm all for us making as much money as possible , but if I tried charging that I would have very very few customers. I use triple shredded colored mulch , I get for 23.00$ a yard and I charge 90.00 per yard to install.
Im also in jersey down the shore and I charge 70-85/yrd based on size of the job.
In my Massachusetts area it's about $110 a yard installed divide that in half there's the edging price if your cleaning beds / additional prep more time goes by an hourly rate plus disposal fee I agree with this guy allot my buddy uses his method I think I make more money with less thought
Yeah-I’m in Springfield, Missouri. I’ve been in the Landscaping industry for 20 years, and it’s cutthroat around here, too. Homeowners want you to do it for free, or you can show up looking professional and knowledgeable, and they’ll let the guy with the rusted-out Ford Ranger with needle tracks in his arms do the job because his bid was 10% cheaper...then call you in a few months and ask you to fix his mistakes for next to nothing, lol. Around here, $70/yard installed with quality weed fabric is high 🙄
Extremely helpful info, thanks. Keep the information coming!
😃👍
Love the vids bro
Me and my friend started a business and wanted to see if this is good price we do $40 per hour + $10 to clean previous weeds + $3 per bag of mulch + 20 to bring the mulch
Sounds like you're on the right track!
great video 👍
unfortunately we dont make much money here in NY. because customers nows that mulch in bags in cheap so the way we make some money is we charge $65 - 90 per yard and that depends on the town we are working on plus $85 so one yard
it will cost a customer $ 150 a yard at $65 a yard and the job get done in about 30 to 45 minutes.
+Rafael caceres find other ways to market mulch and target premium customers
👍awesome video! I got a lot out if it. So I was wondering if you could do a video on pressure washing? I know I'm making money at it, just want to be sure its the right amount. Maybe compare big box stores walkways vs. driveways, side walks, siding on houses and landscape block mold removal. And also do one on seal coating. I find it hard to make money doing it in my town because the closest bulk seal coat sales company is 1 hour away.
I have been in lawn care for a few years as an owner and have several mulch jibs to estimate this week. This info is a big help. Thanks! I am new to installing mulch into existing mulch beds, do I need to remove all of the existing mulch before I put down new? I have applied to new mulch beds but not existing.
A mulch blower is awesome if you can get one A two nan crew could put down about 30 yards a day. Truck could only hold 9 yards.
Is that a 6.5 ft bed that you think could hold ~ 9 c yards?
I change $100/yd. Any type of mulch. No one else in the indy area charges more then that. No fabric, or dug edge. I typically make 200 to 300/ hr spreading it using 10cu/ft barrows so i move material fast.
Nice!
I usually charge $110.00 a yard which includes mulch+installation and if beds must be weeded that's an extra fee. I pick it up myself unless its over 4 yards in which case I have it delivered and factor the delivery fees into my bid.
What if customer asks for fabric what do u charge to install the fabric
@@jasonsmith-lf6jj depends on how much fabric is needed, what kind d they prefer ect
I measured all the beds came up with 645sqft.. lady wants fabric and mulch installed
Commercial grade fabric .. in northern ny
@@jasonsmith-lf6jj Agrifab is a real durable one...we use it a lot when doing g landscaping
what about weeding before the mulch job? Is this part of the pricing?
if its a little no if its a lot charge them
Used to work for Chem Lawn. The sales guys did "lick and stick". I would go out on jobs that they bid for $25, but cost the company $50 or $100 in fert and labor. LOL
why would anyone bid $25 haha jesus
Okay lets see if this works, Mulch (2) 27.50 cu yrd= $55 / 108 x 160 sqft = $81.48. Fabric (6) 15.99 = $95.94 / 108 x 160 = $142.13. Labor 1.50 x 160 sqft = $240. Material 0.15 x 160 sqft= $24. Deliver 0.15 x 160 sqft= $24. Sum of $511.61. Does this sound right?
So the video covers Mulch COST, Delivery COST, Fabric COST and Labor COST. Is the labor portion supposed to be the profit made or is there an additional markup that we have to determine based on our area?
Stanley, when you sell a yard and a half of mulch, where are you storing/keeping the remaining half of the 2nd yard of mulch that you purchased but did not sell to the customer?
well said
Thank you.
and in your books you know you charge X amount per yard plus delivery. we charge $80 per.yard.installed on average situation for colored mulch. i use the 1 man 1 yard per hour rule plus material at retail price plus delivery at the end of the total price. $55 pr man hour $23 material
+brodey holliday I break my estimates down into a number of different ways-all of them work based on the site conditions and customer expectations. With that said it doesn't matter if its a price per sq.ft or cubic yard. I prefer the cubic yard way personally. But the most important point is to have profits incorporated into every step of the job. Ultimately I hope thats what your achieving anyway you bid it:)
I had a project where the customer & I had a major fall out. I quoted a 9 cubic yard mulch installation project $175. The job was to include weed eat grass, turn over dirt already in flower bed & installation. Upon my arrival and start of project, client began expanding out original mulch area by removing wood barriers around tree. The initial mulch estimate was thinned out and the project was not completed. Do you have a reccomendation?
I've been licking and sticking for a loonngggg time with mulch. Lol. Might have to give this a try.
Great video Stanley very helpful now I see where these big company's getting there money on mulch. I charge about 85 to 110 a yard on mulch no edging just product and labor to spread. Plus additional delivery fee of 65-80 depending how far i go for edging I charge $88 per crew hour I am in illinois border of Wisconsin. I am going to try that formula wat you think.
YOUNG SUCCESSFUL LANDSCAPER Sounds like you have a good way in place. Time and material works just as well if the customers will go for it.
Some do the ones who don't and want to negotiate the price I remove some material and explain them is not going to be as thick as it should be and they agree.but they end up calling me back wanting the first price I gave them. If I have a job to do like a paver patio and need to charge for rental bobcat how would I include it in the estimate.
85-110 is the mid range around my area tge highest I've had hear from previous clients and quotes was up to 265-320 yard. I was like wutt I was already thinking to lower my prices but when I heard that I stayed wit the same prices if it's a landscape construction work then prices go up on the crew price more gard labor.but I am still learning I am 24 years old started when I was 20 and everybody I asked for help around when I started they just said Idk or just change the conversation but I've learned the hard way like everyone else and still am. Thank you for all the info you've been providing us very helpful and useful. Love the podcast man good work.
YOUNG SUCCESSFUL LANDSCAPER You include the time and delivery charge of the rental bobcat. If you ant to make $85-$110 per hour for a bobcat-estimate the time you will be using it and expense out the rental and delivery fee.
I realize the video is older. But my question is, how do you come up with your labor price per SQFT?
Wow that amount for mulch is outrageous. Love your videos but no way is that reasonable price for mulch
long Island NY we get 100 minimum a yard but remember 3 guys will cost about a 100 an hour after there salary and insurance workers comp ect. ( if there legal)and a cost of 20 a yard for colored mulch. if your not putting down 1 Yard an hour minimum per guy your working for free. then again most companies don't know there cost and just created a job for themselves. which drives down the price of legitimate companies
So true- most companies undercharge.
mike moser I own a landscaping company on li and charge 75 a yd for mulch and labor , edging and weeding is extra which is always needed so prob 100 a yard is the right price
mike moser two men should be laying down 2-3 yds an hour done or there's something wrong
ya lol 1 yard a hr I would fire him so fast one man I say can do 3 in a hr or more
I've got a ton of "lick & stick jobs" but it's just finding the bigger & better jobs that I'm trying to do...... any suggestions ??? Also what are you talking about by high end mulch (above colored mulch) ?? Is that like pine bark & nugget mulch ? Or rubber types of mulch?? Thanks Buddy.
what about removing the old mulch ,,, charge by the yard or the time? i did 20 yards few weeks ago and it was alot.. only saved me was i didnt have to haul the old multch away, ive watch bunches of your vids.. after your fromula i didnt do bad ,, but i also brought in 2 yard dirt and 200 retaining wall brick for the raised flower beds plus some tree trimming and flower planting..
Hope the vids help out!
Need a video on how to measure mulch beds, because not all are square.
For irregular sized mulch beds I square them off. I break them down into smaller squares to get a close estimate. If a mulch bed is a 20 foot diameter irregular circle. I would convert that into the =biggest square I could within that circle and calculate area. Its not exact but mulch beds have forgiveness.
$200.00 for 1 yard of mulch. Kinda of high people here in Ct won't pay that . I do this way. 1yd3 of mulch cost 45 tax include. I charge the same cost for labor than if I bring the mulch depending the distance is about 30 - 40 dollars. So total is about 120 -130 for 1 yard no fabric
Good info- Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome partner
what is the methods you use for like charging for prep work and like doing a border?
Just wondering are you suppose to turn soil over before you mulch does that help or it doesn't matter. Im a new subscriber Kieth brought me here.
I enjoy comparing my methods to yours. But there is no way I I could ever get nearly $2-$2.50 per square foot... I typically bid at $85 per cubic yard. My Mulch ranges from $20 to $36 per yard cost. And for most jobs they are not new installs they are reinstalls, so I estimate at 2 inches. That puts me at $.50 per square foot strictly for mulch and install labor. I am in an area with literally 100s of options for landscaping companies..... I am probably at the top end for the price range.
Yikes! In Ottawa, Canada Shredded Pine mulch or Cedar mulch goes for $48 per cubic yard + tax. Were charging $160 per yard delivered & installed. (with a minimum)
ya lol I admit we only charge 75 to 100 per yard lol
Hey buddy great video, can you please tell me how can l figure out the cost of labor on the mulch?
I have the labor cost included in the installation process.
Interesting. What do you consider double shredded mulch? What size is that down to?
Also - how do you make that kind of money installing mulch? You must be pretty fortunate in your area. Around here in central Illinois if you could get $100 per cu. yd. installed that would be the highest. Maybe you could get a little higher from customers who don't shop around but there are too many little would be landscapers running around low balling everyone around here it seems.
So if your man hour rate is $50.00, your labor cost would be $50.00/100 correct? (.50 per sq. ft.)
So you have the price of materials and labor but do you do any upcharge on products?
Skip the fabric use treflan or snapshot
NO fabric but yes on the 3". I see so many rip off companies sprinkling mulch on. How does everybody keep their mulch in place?
$200. 00 bucks per yard? I get my bulk mulch for $30 a yard. I change $100 a yard. No fabric and I deliver it myself. It takes me about 45 minutes to install a yard depending on the property. I figure $70 a man hour is pretty good. I would love to have the balls to tell them it'll be 2 or 3 hundred per yard lol. But sometimes people look at me like I have two heads when I tell them it's a hundred bucks for a yard. you must be doing great.
I sell themn that high by focusing on what we do different and providing high end quality.
I'd like to know how you do that. There's only so much you can do with mulch. If I could get that much for mulch that's all I'd be doing. Keep it up.
You said it yourself, you need balls ;)
I am about 70 miles from him and would have a good day at $130 per yard installed...
Stanley...I just came back to this video for a comparison, and I have a question. I cant get bulk mulch here. Bagged mulch runs about 3.88 a bag. using your numbers, if we take that and multiply times 13.5 to get a cubic yard, its about 52 a yard. then divide by 100, so .52 per sq ft. Adding in .15 for delivery, and 1.50 for labor, I come up with 2.17 per sq foot. So, if we multiply that by 100 sq feet, we are at 217.00 per yard of mulch installed?? That seems awfully high. Most guys suggest around 70-100 per yard installed, but that is using bulk mulch for their pricing. I don't think I would land many jobs trying to charge 217 per yard of mulch installed for JUST laying the mulch, and not doing any prep or border work. Are my numbers getting skewed or am I close? Looking to here your opinions on this, bagged colored mulch, etc. Looking for assistnance here. Thanks.
so ok.... if it comes up to 2 bucks a foot with fabric how do I figure out how much without fabric? do I just take off the .10 for the fabric? because it seems like the labor price should go down because putting fabric in and mulch is a LOT more work than just remulching already existing beds.
+Coles Diamond Cut LLC Shane Cole You can back out the extra time for the labor and materials if you are not installing it.
wow man im inspired!
+sancasmiadas1 Great- go get em ;)
+Stanley "Dirt Monkey" Genadek hey i will most likely be taking your Dirty Monkey university courses to broaden my "know how"but one question, why the heck do i feel guilty of making a nice profit? i mean i billed the mulch using your formula but went a bit lower $1.18 a square foot on 2,524 sq. ft. steep hillside. Bid total: $2,978.32! and cost of materials/employee labor/delivery $1,100. Company profit is $1,878.32 estimated time 3 people 8 hr shift. does this sound reasonable to you?
+sancasmiadas1 The more profit- the better equipment-the better yo can do jobs, the more you can pay your people, and keep improving your process. I say yes- without profits their is no room for improvement.
+Proper Lawn Care wow thank you! I didn't see it that way at all! You are right if I offer people my love and passion in my work they should love me back by paying me right! I like thanxs
***** i agree totally! il share a quick one right along with what you said. A costumer called me today for a bid on lawn maintenance and quickly snuck in "while your here please turn my water on!" i responded ooo yes we do do irrigation start ups starting at $39.99 depending on how many valves you have, crickets! crickets! crickets! her response, welllll just give me the bid then! i never did! im not interested in con artist low ball tactics! my vibrtational alignment is with abundance mam, sorry your frequency doesnt match mine!
I have become very interested in your channel since I found it about a month ago. I currently drive a heavy wrecker for as company here in arkansas and was wondering what advice you have for me. I have a brand new 1023e john deere with a front end loader and mower deck and 5ft box blade. I'm currently throwing around the idea of buying a 6x10 dump trailer and doing gravel driveways on the weekends or in free time. What advice do u have for me. I'm hoping one day to do it full time. I'm just getting wore out being on call in the wrecker 24/7 and wanting more family time. So any advice would be helping. I'm 26 with a 2 year old boy that I feel like my wrecker job is taking me after from his time to much. Sorry for the long comment I'm just trying to brain pick.
What about a video on Sweet Pea?
Great Video would love to get that, but nobody would pay that in my area.
great video. Do you still need to include the cost for the help, if is one or two guys with you?
+John Cinty No that covers the labor.
Stan as a business owner what do you feel is more convenient in the landscape business. an actual dump truck or a truck with dump trailer?
Dump truck all the way
Awesome man thanks. Keep up the great videos 👍👍
Would this work for doing stone instead of mulch?
Looks
I would feel I was ripping off my customers if I charged 2-3 dollars per sq ft. That's extremely high. I can mulch a 1000 sq ft area myself in about 4 hours. Charge a dollar a sq ft for birch, cedar, pine etc...plus 250 for weed mat. And make almost $1000 profit for 4 hours of work. Nobody in Sarasota Florida charges more than 1.50 per sq ft. Crazy high prices. This guy knows his stuff, I'll give him that, but man his pricing is a little tough.
It depends on the market in an area
That include staples?
I've been bidding mulch for 5 years at $55 per cubic yard delivered and installed doesn't include bed prep. Pulling weeds etc.. how does that sound to you?
Seems like your young so not much overhead correct? I would bump it up to about $80-100 per cubic yard.
what if you have a truck and don't need it delivered?
Mulch is mostly a DIY homeowners project. That’s the remaining project I’m doing after fixing my new home. I did pay a lot to remove 7 trees to the root.
How can I get access to the full videos ?
Hey I have a question, I want to fill up a pool with mulch. The pool is 20x12x8. I will like to know how to do the formula ti find out how much mulch or top soil I need? Thanks
71 cubic yards if the dimensions are all in feet.
Here is a calculator at calculatorsoup
www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/construction/cubic-yards-calculator.php
Why would you fill a pool with mulch?!
how do you bid on flower please get back to me soon
So you would charge 200.00 for one yard of mulch del.and installed?
PAUL DINEHART The point to the video was to help create a formula for calculating mulch. To get away from the Lick and Stick method. I don't want everyone to only follow this because material, labor and site conditions might not make this work in your area. Other areas this cost may be to high or low. Use the info as a guideline for your set of circumstances, and create your own pricing structure from there.
Thanks for the reply.Informantion very useful!
WHY ITIN EVERY ONE LIKE STAN IN MIND SET
What if you got a dump truck
I still laugh about you calling it the lick and stick approach. Too close for comfort haha
Buy it dry Bid it by the ton and soak it with water. Done
Why do you use fabric under mulch? That totally defeats the purpose of using hardwood mulch. Fabric should only be used under rock.
Jason Horn perhaps the customer requested it.
Don't u edge wen u mulch ? Weed ? Some need it, some don't. So with your method... U can actually do 3 times the work from one job to next n get paid the same
whats a good labor rate today??
That depends on many different factors.
How do you find the mulch yard
Jakob Hansson Local suppliers should handle and sell it. Look for Landscape supply wharehouses and if they don't have it- ask them where you can get it.
