    If this video doesn't motivate somebody to better themselves then nothing will. You make it seem so easy. I think people ( me included ) tend to over think things to where we convince ourselves they are out of reach.

    • @Dirtmonkey
      @Dirtmonkey  9 років тому +1

      TopNotchLawns Overthinking is so common. I find myself doing it and have to make a conscious effort to stop. How do you keep yourself from overthinking things?

    • @TopNotchLawns
      @TopNotchLawns 9 років тому +4

      I just try to take a step back and break things down like you talked about in your video. I was mainly referring to it holding people back. For example, I truly enjoy doing landscaping project and construction projects like you do but I tend to look at the project as a whole and thinking its too big to take on instead of dividing it into smaller groups and complete one task at a time. I believe this is something that has held me back. I think if a person can break things down into smaller categories and focus on one thing at a time it might give them the confidence they need in themselves to take on a big job whatever it may be.

    The part where you ask what there budget is so you can provide the right solution is so simple, yet very informative. We fix a lot of messed up lawns. I am going to implement this strategy just because I believe it will help the customer and maximize our profits. Your videos are awesome. Thank you.

      Myles Jenkins It took me years to figure out how to word that and make it sound right. I was really uncomfortable the first 10 or 20 times I tried it but then found the right way to word it so it comes out naturally.

    0:11 I have a great idea for a product: The In-Home Meteorologist! It is an Eight sided die with labels "Sunny", "Partly cloudy", "Overcast", "Light rain", "Heavy Rain", "Thunderstorms", "Snow", and "Check the local forecast".
    Guaranteed to be at least as accurate as your local meteorologist; every time. Summer in Arizona, Winter in Maine. I'll bet the top buyers will be news channels, at least then they have a 12.5% chance of accuracy!

    Man I am so happy to hear you quoting off so quickly like that. you're probably one of the only ones on UA-cam who have enough balls to do it. And do it right. No stutter. you're selling to your customers who buy your landscaping and all the small contractors you the man Stan. That's exactly how I calculate my jobs. Although I don't do so much big Excavating and concrete work. But the fencing and paver work, retaining wall and other Landscaping. You can tell you know what you're talkin about. Do you time all your guys for each particular tasks so you can know exactly how much to charge in the future? I have found that to be the best way to figure out if I'm hitting my numbers consistently. Also l was wondering if you pay your guys a performance bonus if they finish the job or task as quickly as you had estimated.

    hay Stanly, in regards to that rock removal hand job, you referred to a dumpster, and dump fees, I take it your referring to dump that rock at a land fill or someone who just needs fill, to buy rock is very costly for any landscape job, it cost more the pit run, top soil and so on, rock is paid though the nose, why would you just dump it, when you can take it back to your yard and stock pile it for a later job, in my 22 year landscaping, my handiest peace of equipment I build, was a ford F600 with a 7 yard dump box, were I made the 2 sides fold down in 1 inch pin, I installed a hydro boom on it that has a extend-a boom, I built a dump bin to hang on the end of the boom cables, the guys hall the rocks and stone out to the street, back Laine, loaded them into the dump bin, when the bin was full, it was lifted up and into the dump box and dumped in, and repeat until truck box was full, the loads are haled to my farm were it is sorted and stock pile ready for the job its needed on, its 100% profit, as we are paid to remove the rock, paid to hall it away, the rock is FREE, the job comes up for that rock or stone, its sold at going rates, we charge to hall the rock from my yard to the new job, paid to install it, I call this gravy money, yet your haling it to a dump, your throwing away thousands o dollars in lost profits clear profits, rock can be used over and over man, some time ya we have to blast it with our wajax fire pump, that put out 300 psi to clean it up, no big deal well loading it in my yard, that's why I built the lagoon to hold water, we have to use our heads, maybe rock is cheap were you are, here we have tons of rock every were, but the demand has shot the price sky high

    Hi Stanley,
    I am the owner of Kreativ Mess©. Our company does Painting Parties for the youth. Our vision is to inspire creativity beyond the classroom, one canvas, one person and one community at a time.
    Recently I watched your video and I must say your lessons cross far into other trades. Thank you for creating these video's. Lot's of what you have said has made a great impact on the process of requesting payments for quotes to what an average work day of an entrepreneur resembles. This is a great tool you have created.

    What does an interview that you hire an individual you dont need to babysit look like? What are you looking for? I've found that hiring people and managing them is the most daunting task of a business for me. We've gone through so many people that dont want to work that I feel like I'd be better off just doing everything on my own and forgetting about employees. I am trying to get better at this but it just hasn't clicked for me yet. What's your advice?

    I'm just getting into landscaping and hardscape and your videos are very informative. I think all those who speak negative are just naturally negative people and if you were as off the grid as they say, then why are they following you?duh!! . What you are doing is awesome and don't stop, I'm in NJ and obviously we make more and charge more, but the information is the same, construction is construction. If no one else gets it, I do, I have a junk removal +demolition business and I too make videos to learn and teach as well. I am so far away from knowing everything and so far away from doing it all right, but sharing my videos and receiving feedback helps me get better and it helps someone somewhere

      The Lampo Group re- published it. Yes, it was written in the early 1920's about a war vet who would not take no for an answer to be hired. He had a permanent limp and half an arm from war injury. The Degree of the Blue Vase, is his ultimate test after already performing incredibly well at several duties. Google it for free text or get it on DaveRamsey.com. You can read it in about 1:30 min.

      Deciding to take on the responsibility of being a business owner. But now I have to realize that it is from sun up to sun down. I have many interests which consume much of my time, and truthfully I find it difficult to do the administration tasks instead of spending valuable time doing fun activities.THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. I realize that running a business no matter how small is 24/7 if you are serious about growth. I will be focusing on that this year.

    Oh my gosh. You are just like me, using the same keys to run your business. I still have a lot to learn and your video helped. Your pricing was interesting. The concrete job was high by $8,000.00plus. I could of done it in one day with 6 guys and $2,500.00 in materials. (Of course I have all the best tools to get the job done right now) But everything else you nailed on pricing (right on). Bidding is one thing you can't teach. Some days i am on and some days I am off. It takes many years to get good. And you are good at bidding and very professional to my surprise. This is my second video I have watched of yours and I am going to watch more to learn. What your teaching doesn't get learned in any college. Glad I don't work in your state and compete against you. Next I am going to see if you show your marketing secrets that deal with advertising which I believe makes a business successful. I use the internet mostly and of course word of mouth is most helpful. I usually get 6 bids in a day(tops) completely done, and run 9 guys. I am 38 years old.

    MCT oil and the butter coffee is pretty good stuff. i have been drinking it in place of multiple energy drinks for quite a while now and its just a much much better option for health and energy.
    For the driving a mini-van not the mustang, are customers typically concerned with what you drive up in???
    I like the bit about profiting with every part of the job. I don't think i've heard bidding jobs talked about that way yet.

    • @Dirtmonkey
      @Dirtmonkey  8 років тому +1

      +Aaron Thurman Yes- the Mini van can put customers off at the initial meeting- so whens its the first time I drive the mustang or one of the trucks. After the job is signed-its back to the Minivan.
