    This montage of time-lapse photography from the International Space Station is collected from many taken in Expeditions 29, 30 and 31.
    The previous sequence, 'All Alone In The Night' ( • All Alone in the Night... ), highlighted night sequences and spectacular aurora light shows and intended to give a feeling of flying through space.
    The goal with this sequence was to bring a bit more attention to the station itself, including the humans aboard it, particularly Don Pettit (appearing in the final shot) who took many of the sequences in this montage.

      Thank you MJ it is awesome inspiring. I think of my Nan who was born in Dundee She died at 98 from a flu. However I think further that how many technological break thoughts she must have seen in her lifetime. Just a few example off the top of my head include global aviation, launching people into outer space, medical advances that provide cures for dysentery, cholera and others, increased awareness of the need to treat all peoples with respect and to acknowledge that dignity is a Universal right not applicable to just some but to all. If you google the United Nations Charter of Human Rights , on which is based Australias Commonwealth Law, you will see many examples of the need to treat all peoples equally. Article 26 states that education is not a right of priveleged few but should be made available to all. This strikes a cordant note for me as I am a university lecturer and tutor, who doesn't really care about administrative policy, rather what is important to me is to provide quality education to all. Have a great day and keep in touch

    The sheer beauty of our home world is humbling and yet the tragedy of what we are doing to it and to each other is a sad reminder of how far we need to go. Perhaps this little video will be like the picture of the Earth taken from Apollo 8 - in 1968 ... and force us to reexamine ourselves, our priorities, our self importance and our vanity. Thank you David.

    Always a pleasure to view the Earth from a majestic place high up in orbit. Looks like a sapphire jewel set against the black velvet of space, and with such clarity we can only appreciate. Nice music to accompany the video too. It kind of makes us want to explore more of what's out there and, at the same time, realize how precious our planet really is. We need to look after it for future generations who no doubt will soon be able to make these journeys more easily, and sooner than we think.
    Enjoy.

    • @DavidPetersonAU
      @DavidPetersonAU  6 років тому +14

      So, here is some footage taken in 1959 - long before computers are capable of CGI - from about 100 km altitude, and you can clearly see the curve:
      ua-cam.com/video/-O99IH9kbPw/v-deo.html
      The horizon crosses the full frame without bending, meaning the lens is not a wide angle.
      How that helps.

    • @fromdarktolight6353
      @fromdarktolight6353 6 років тому +1

      there are other means to achieve the desired effects besides cgi. scale models etc. plus the film looks doctored. and we need to look at footage that is much longer to get the whole picture before making any defined conclusions.

I was called out of the house a couple months ago by my brother and he pointed up to the sky and said there's the ISS. I had never seen it before... it went right across the night sky. It was awesome to see. I could watch this video all day, too, like someone else said earlier.

    Notice the thin, fragile band of atmosphere that keeps us all alive. Every climate change non-believer and "science hater" in the world should be forced to watch this time lapse once a week. Then maybe they'll realize how precarious our existence really is and just perhaps will think that we should start acting like responsible stewards of our little blue lifeboat.

      That's correct. If there *were* flickering lights and cloud movement that would actually indicate it is fake, due to the altitude and speed of the ISS. I did the math here:

    At times like this I really appreciate our high speed EPB connection (100mbps) in Chattanooga, TN (The Gig City) home of the USA's fastest internet! The ISS is an engineering masterpiece that is a legacy of a remarkable space machine that is now a museum artifact. I hope the low earth orbit outpost far exceeds its design life because where the next generation space station will come from no one knows.
