Some people will never understand the point of what you're doing, wondering why the hell sleeping out in a field would be fun, and you can't make such people "get it". When I can't head to the deep woods for a weekend sometimes I go across the creek behind our house to my little campsite. It's less than a quarter mile, but especially at night when the traffic noise is gone I can pretend I'm far away, just me and the fire. I get it!
I'll be able to go to the back of the back yard (slightly less than an acre) once I get the insurance company to pay off from the last hurricane and get it cleaned up. Those who haven't done what we love won't understand until they give it roll !

Hi Nick , A wonderful Sunset , and a Sunrise Punctuated by Bird song , what more could a Man ask For ! , Be Well my Friend , Strength , Honour and Respect !
Couple of top tips I picked up regarding rubbish - if you're eating a dehydrated meal DON'T cut the packet down once it's rehydrated to make it easier to eat, instead once you're done you can reseal it as a rubbish bag and also keep in any food smells that might attract wildlife. Also the brew kit that comes with British military 24hr ration packs comes in a really robust plastic bag, these are great for carrying food in and carrying rubbish back out IME.
Once you see the views and the sunsets you can fully appreciate why people do this. Personally I find myself drawn to sights and scenes like these and I slip in to a daydream staring in to the screen and get lost in my thoughts for a moment. I don’t know where you live. Evidently in a lot of European countries you can just camp on farmers’ land and they can’t say anything about it. That definitely wouldn’t work in USA.
As an American hay farmer, I can’t imagine coming in with a crew and machinery to roll up all that hay in the morning and finding a strange dude in a tent in our way!
@@KevinSmith-yh6tl I rewatched the video and he shoved all the hay out of the way to make room for his shelter. If I’m walking across hay that has been cut down, I hop over the rows but he tromps right through them. He makes no mention of leave-no-trace or being respectful of private property. What’s equally sad and appalling are the comments of the British public who are amazed by this feat of camping. Imagine living in a country like that. Imagine trying to farm in a place where you have no property rights. Now I’m going to watch some of his other videos.
I had my DD ripped by a flying umbrella spending a few nights on a windy beach many years ago. I patched it with duct tape from both sides thinking it was a temporary solution. This fix turned out to be so durable I never got to make an other solution. It held many years of quite gnarly conditions (Scandinavian) before I had to change the tarp from just wear and tear. The patches never failed me during those years though.. sometimes the mist simple solutions att the best. I wouldn’t want to sew in that light material. Maybe some patch with some silicone based glue would do the trick, but hey duct tape is easier!:)
hey Nick, i'm also planning sleeping out,etc BUT i have some fears. for example, how do you avoid bugs and whatnots walking on your face (or into your nose, ears) while sleeping? i bough a bug net that i can wear on my head but i think it might be dangerous (wraps around your neck while sleeping). also, who do you generally do against bugs? of course, i have mosquito and tick repellant but what about other "curious and relentless" bugs that want to land on me/bite me, etc? final question: is the tarp size relevant? you use a 3x3m but i have a 2x3m which makes it hard to achieve some configurations.
If you want no bugs at all, a tent (they usually have an integrated ground sheet sewn in with no gaps) or a hammock with an integrated bug net is a good choice. You can even put your backpack and footwear in your tent to protect them from insects.
In warmer weather a bivvy bag with a snugpak jungle sleeping bag is a good option, the jungle bag comes with a built-in mosquito net which can be rolled away if not needed. Some plants can act as a natural insect repellent, either burned or rubbed on the skin. Also if you use a 2x3 tarp there are some configs where 3 sides are pegged to the floor and the open side can be covered with a mosquito net hung over the opening. There are options. I use a 2x3 tarp and not a 3x3 because its lighter weight and packs away slightly smaller, i use a bivvy bag aswell so a smaller tarp is fine for me. All the best to you.
@@redactedcanceledcensored6890 thanks for the suggestion! actually, i'm interested in all 3 forms (hammock, tarp, tent) for flexibility. as such, i'm aware of the built-in net, however, bugs are still a problem whenever i'm not inside of a bug net. even if i just take a walk through a forest.

Hi Nick great video. I have a couple of questions for you. I have a lot of blue green algae in my area what's the best way to avoid getting poisoned? And where did you get the pee bottle from?
@@Maryland_Kulak First of all there is the question if it is legal to wild camp. Im Germany it isn‘t. I don‘t know how it is in England. So if it isn‘t (fully), then you obviously won‘t be discovered. So you camp somewhere hidden. Militarys should be trained to do that. Then camping in a farmers fresh cut grassland isn‘t ideal also, because this doesn‘t lead to a lot of friends for the bushcraft scene... (Even if the farmer gave him permission. The other farmers and people may not know. And won‘t be happy about that kind of behavior from strangers.) Next, the spot is completely unhidden from the elements. Not what you want in a tarp shelter.
@@ED-on8to I see what you mean, and agree. In his first video, this fellow claims he had a rural upbringing but he certainly doesn’t seem like he is being respectful of the farmer, or even aware that he’s in a hay field. I wish he had made some mention of it. Some explanation. Or made some effort to put the hay back the way he found it and talked about it in the video. As a former US Army infantry officer I also agree about the site selection for stealth camping. We had a doctrine for selecting “patrol bases” that included things like staying away from prominent terrain features and “lines of drift” (places the enemy would likely travel when going from point A to point B).

Hi Nick great video. I have a couple of questions for you. I have a lot of blue green algae in my area what's the best way to avoid getting poisoned? And where did you get the pee bottle from?
Nice show and tell there Nick that view of the lake nice 👍 is there any good fishing 🎣 in that lake besides lake monsters 🦑😳? 😂👍👌✌️🫡🇺🇸

Hope the farmer doesn't come along to gather what's left of his field. Orange can be beautiful.
No wet n dry then 😂
Prince go camping!
This video reminded me of an episode of Shaun the Sheep. ua-cam.com/video/zKUkls0HMFI/v-deo.html
Not ideal place for camping.
I wonder that your soldier skills didn‘t kept you off.
Please elaborate.

First of all there is the question if it is legal to wild camp.
And won‘t be happy about that kind of behavior from strangers.)
Next, the spot is completely unhidden from the elements.
That gas burner is definitely made by a geeza in China.
Am I first?
Looks like it .. 10 you-tube points to you sir
You're sniffing well mate.
