Yet another wonderful video. Those huckleberries looked good. I actually prefer gooseberries. My dad had 1 gooseberry bush that I would pick clean every summer. Makes me miss those days. I guess that's why I enjoy your videos about WV so much, brings back memories. Although I'm not from the heartland of WV (I grew up in Hancock County), all of your videos remind me of home. Thank you for that! Take care and God bless you and your entire family!
Informative, beautiful video! Thank you! My husband & I are visiting from Kentucky this October for a late 25th Anniversary hike. Appreciate the info! How many miles was this hike?
First, lived in Kentucky for almost 9 years! Where do you live in Kentucky? Second, thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting! I don’t know exactly how many miles we hiked. We left the trail and zigzagged around. I think we hiked about 5 miles, but that’s a guess. I have to stress, you should never leave the trail! As interesting as the lichen is, it made for miserable hiking! All that being said, Dolly Sods is absolutely amazing, and it’s worth your time!!! If you have time, go through our West Virginia playlist, and you’ll find many other places that’s worth your time while you’re in the region! Be blessed! Bill
@@BillMarion definitely caught the bit about not walking in the lichen lol 😂! I was waiting for someone to grill you on it but it happens. 😉 We live in Morgantown Kentucky about 30 minutes north of bowling green. We go on an annual fall hike every year. Been to Red River Gorge, Pine Mountain, Berea Pinnacles, White Rocks Virginia & Sand Cave Kentucky. This year we’ve chosen West Virginia; Dollysods, Bear Creek, Seneca Rocks, New River Gorge, etc.
@@melindakeown7500 I went to Union on the other side of the state, down in Knox County. Ended up joining Kentucky Guard, and living in Kentucky a lot longer than I expected! Great state, wonderful people! Spent a lot of time outside Central City at West Kentucky Training Site. Given enough time, the longer this video stays up, the more likely it is that I'll get lit up in the comments! I almost didn't include it in the video, but it was extremely interesting, and I assure you, I ain't gonna do it again! LOLOL But people are people. In 2021, we all love to yell at someone else! Think about adding Spruce Knob to your trip, (it's just down the road from Seneca Rocks, and then up the Mountain. It's the highest mountain in West Virginia. Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks, and Dolly Sods are in the same general area. There's a mountain road (dirt/gravel) that you can take from the Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks Recreation Area, all the way to Cass/Snowshoe. I think it's FR235. It's amazing. It'll take you about 4 hours. When we took that route, we didn't see a single person the whole time. New River Gorge is great too! Bill
@@BillMarion definitely appreciate the info! I’ll add this to our itinerary! We’re looking to spend Tuesday thru Saturday in the area. Anymore tips? I fly a drone & husband uses a GoPro then I take our best clips to edit for a video & upload to UA-cam so we can enjoy watching in winter or people who are physically unable to hike can enjoy, too. We live only 30mins from central city and visit there for boredom busters.
