It was time to leave the West Coast and head back to Christchurch so I was very excited to fly aboard Air New Zealand on their 15 years old De Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q300, ZK-NEW (in the new livery).
After an early morning start, we arrived at a very quiet Hokitika Airport and checked in. As more people showed up, our plane touched down and I was thrilled to see our Q300 in the newer livery. Already a good start! Boarding commenced at Gate 1 and Symmone welcomed us. I was shocked to hear that she'd recognised my name on my boarding pass and she deduced that I was a UA-camr. So I was very proud to see that the crew are also among my viewers on the channel. I settled in Seat 6A and as the crew made their announcements, the engines powered up and we taxied to the runway before taking off towards Christchurch. The view of the mountains and horizon was gorgeous. Truly, a sight to behold for any aviation enthusiast. I wasn't expecting much from the service of the flight but we were pleasantly surprised by Symmone giving us some exclusive goodie bags, so I have to applaud for her generosity. Huge shoutout to her as this truly made my day. As we started to descend, and the gear lowered, I was getting ready for landing, but then the engines powered up again and the gear retracted once more. We were climbing to a higher altitude. The passengers were curious but confused at the pilot's decision. I thought we were going to be diverted elsewhere like on a previous flight. But luckily, the pilot calmed our thoughts by stating that there was a cat on the runway and he made the decision to abort landing and make a go-around. This was my first go-around ever and it was very thrilling to experience it first-hand. Sooner than later, we eventually arrived into Christchurch and the plane taxied and parked at Gate 5. The flight truly blew away my expectations and I'm now looking forward to future flights with Air New Zealand, especially if the crew do happen to recognise me. I'm not calling for attention but I'd be very happy to interact with fans of the channel, especially with those who truly love my content. It's an honour! Anyway, I've got one more flight before the journey home so stay tuned for that. Thank you to the fans, you are truly what keeps this channel going. And if you do happen to spot me, or my name on the boarding pass, per se... you know what to do ;)
Merry Christmas!

Aww, what a beautiful video, and thank you for the shout out, it was lovely to have met and looked after you both 😊 Symmone x
wow, what a great seat. I loved watching the gear go up. Thanks for this!
My first flight ever was over those mountains- I was mesmerised. Getting a glimpse of the city on the fly around was a bonus 😊
11:47 that bird scared me for a second lol it was so close
Finally a regional NZ flight, been looking for vlogs like this as a kiwi myself from the Kapiti Coast
Another great little regional airport.
Your video so great 👍
4:44 This reminds me of the computer game 'Lemmings' from the early 1990s.
Beautiful flight, thank you!
Great to see the smaller places getting flight services! Hokitika used to be an absolute dump but it's become so gorgeous over the years now! Air NZ should offer a service from Hokitika to Queenstown.
I love your videos
Very nice! 👍 Who'd have thought a cat on the runway tho!🐈😸
Luckily, the cat quickly got off the runway 😹
@@AEROFLIGHTXV Perhaps it was a CAT 1 approach?😹

I used 2 live here 4 18 years
Just for future reference, aircraft park on STANDS, not 'gates'.
Cool. I’m still calling them Gates.
lovely but the prop is turning real slow when your over the mountains.....
It's to do with the camera frame rate being nearly in sync with the propeller speed.
how long did this service take from take off?
The time of takeoff AND landing were shown in the video - you need to pay more attention.
Do you collect Kia Ora magazines ?
I used to, but don't really do that now
Why?
@@captainjoshq300 it’s a collector’s item
Ok
6:23 Is that blood?
No clue. Could also be nail polish.
