  • This pair are an excellent addition to the RTR range of steam-outline locomotives in OO in terms of quality and design, but how do they fare on test running on Tony Wright's 'Little Bytham' layout?

Yes, the lamps are a little bright and perhaps too white, but it is saying something about the quality of the model if the only thing we can criticize is the head lamp colour and brightness.

So nice to watch. I don't presently have the space or time for a model railway, but at least I can enjoy these videos. Thank you.

I had been watching these from afar since release so when the BR Black ones popped up in a sale last weekend, I pulled the trigger. Watching a review on another site, I hadnt realised the body is diecast and there was such a wealth of detail on the lighting. Yr comment that the BR versions seem more popular made me smile since while the Crimson is more colourful, the addition of smoke deflectors and pipework covers on the RHS seems to add more heft to the loco. I am interested on the front air intake as the grille area looks like where the air should pass into rather than the top hinged deflector...

A great loco. I've added sound, stay alive, a midibase speaker and rewired the firebox flicker for DCC control. Icing on the cake! How to is explained on a well known site for railway modelling .

Turbomotive: A great locomotive that hauled high speed passenger trains. Designed by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, it was mostly used for passenger trains from Glasgow to London and vice versa!!

    Stunning! Beyond excellent!

Hi Tony, great cameo review, they do run particularly well, the fine scale driving wheel profiles look very prototypical.

  • @stratman9449

that "fine pair" look very nice on your even nicer layout......despite "them" being the "wrong" railway......thy and cheers from germany...

Thank you for the video Tony. Always a pleasure to see locos reviewed at Little Bytham.

    Looks magnificent Tony.

Quick question. As Turbomotive leaves the fiddle yard at

  • @RoyBigBoy

I have the turbomotive I couldn't resist buying it ,I don't have a track yet to run it on lol . But that's my plan when I retire 🤞

Not my era or location but they are superb models. The lamps are too bright as mentioned in the video, and in daylight hours they wouldn't normally have been lit anyway, so I do hope it is not a feature that is perpetuated in future steam releases. The strange thing is that I believe both lights show red when the loco rubs in reverse! That said, it is still an excellent model.
