In this video we will teach a step by step approach to learning how to do a box slide on skis or grind as some people call it. We start the video by teaching you how to do a 5050 on a box. Once you have learned to slide the box using the 5050 we start practising the late box slide using counter rotation. When you stomped the late box slide we move on to sliding the entire box side ways to straight landing. Then we finish of the tutorial doing the box slide to fakie. Good luck, you will stomp it soon!
Check our full tutorial pack that will teach you all of the most essential skills you need in order to rock in the park.

This really helped. I was developing a fear of boxes because I wasn't doing them right and I kept falling. Thank you so much.
Johan Shattuck same, I was with rails doh.
im just watching these to see snow, cant wait for this winter, summer needs to be made shorter somehow.

Very helpful video! Every question I had was explained, but I have another tip you could add. A common error on boxes is to try to lean and dig an edge into the box rather than riding parallel to the box. You show someone falling because their skis are too far apart, but also a lot of beginners will try to lean like a turn. Maybe in an update video you can add some advice on countering that! You guys are awesome! :)
You guys have a great idea here. The description is very clear and thorough. I hope people start to see this and appreciate your videos.
Thanks!
Dude thanks alot for the encouragement to keep making more and even better tutorials!
One of the best tutorials ive seen - please make more videos! :)
Thanks alot I really appriciate it. I am editing on more tutorials almost every day so more tutorials are about to come.
+Stomp It Tutorials hi again! Now that it's ski season I got to try this out. The only box at my park was a flat down but I made it work! So helpful!
that counter roatation trick changes everthing thank u a ton
This is really helpful. I had an impromptu visit to the chillfactore a little while ago and tried to do a 5050 with no instruction. Needless to say I repeatedly smacked my head on it and went sliding face first down the slope. Someone at the bottom said that I had dedication though so I'm gonna take it as a win!
Awesome tutorial! Gonna go back to skis this season after many years on a board. Excited to try these techniques.
+rsimpson79 yea thats cool! Have in mind to buy some playful soft(ish) skis so you can still have fun ollying, buttering etc like one can do one snowboard a bit easier than skis. This way your transition may be easier.
Best tutorial for this that is saw
this was my first ever trick I learned
it's super easy and it just doesn't look nearly as scary as the rails
Thanks man i really want to get into freestyle skiing but i cant afford it so learning from your videos have been really helpful
Thank you! After some practice i even managed to do a full 360 on a box!
Amazing Tutorial, thank you very much!

U Deserve 1 million
Thanks Kylie :)
Nice video whats the intro song ?
I have way to much weight on my back ski when I try and slide it any tips?
Look at the end of the rail/box once you hop on. It'll kinda help you to maintain balance.
Also stop putting weight on your back ski.
Laax my ski resort😍
+Andi Busen Stomp it´s too :)
what is the differnce between these video's and the ones you pay for on the website?
why should i buy those video's if i have these?
keep up the good work tho
+kjell smeyers Thanks for your question. Well here on youtube I have just posted a couple of videos from our Beginer and intermediate pack to show what the whole video packs looks like. At the website there is a lot more of the in-depth beginner to intermediate videos going through a whole lot of technique on how to get solid foundation of tricks and base skills that most other tricks builds upon.
are you from laax? would be nice to meet you as laax is my ski destination too
He is from sweden, lives in laax ( sorry for late answer)
Jens, wont the shifty technique make it near impossible to do switchups and 270´s etc. later since your body is facing down the hill and not along the rail?
Really really good question! So this video is good for getting started but once you got it down this way next steps would be to start locking using both shifty tech and rotation on.
Shifty technique is really nice for backside rotation of since when you lock the ski and chest is point down the rail you have a whole 90° start the spin with before you body is facing the same direction of the skis. If you use the shifty technique you could do pretty lame looking frontside switchups without having to lock but any how I go into this in some serious detail in the Beginner Tutorial pack if you wanna now more over at stompittutorials.com/
Happy with the answer?
I understand, and when i think about that does make it a lot simpler to learn. It makes total sense now that i think about it.
Thanks for answering :D
Im watching this in the car on my way to go skiing😂
My edges on my skis are completely stock, not touched. So when sliding on a box i get caught? like the edges go in the box and it stops? how can i do so this doesnt happen? (without round my edges)
TeqHDcasper you can't
What ski resort is this?
+Hayden Moran It is Laax, Switzerland.
YEAH
thnx
Intro Song?
Its from soundcloud.com/phillyjoseph but it not online anymore.
Thx
send this song to me pleaseeeeee
It´s by Philly Joseph but the song is no longer online on his soundcloud account.
how do you know which foot should be leading down the slope when sideways? cheers
Do you ever skateboard? If yes the same way as you prefer to skateboard. If not try both ways and see what feels better.
dope
Basically, keep your skis straight and commit
I need a little bit help! When im going on to the box i always and up skiing backwards when im going to ski sideways. Please help!
Cant u just lean forward more with your body so u wont go back ?
I will try next time im going skiing..
Fnizey ok good luck amigo
you are in Laax :)
Swiss
Yes and I am Swedish
Stomp It Tutorials But Switzerland is better for skiing
can u make a how to flair video?
Yes maybe next season :)
When I 5050, at the end of the box, should I Ollie?
Just popping off is easier. Ollie is sort of cooler but there is a risk your tails will slip to the sides. Learn both :P
Stomp It Tutorials okay. I was just wondering because in the video it looked like you guys were doing an Ollie off the box. Thanks for answering!
what is the song i looked on the link and didn't find it
+Micah Sawyer The song has been taken down I believe.
can some one please tell me what song is playing in the background at 1:30
Your stupid it's in the discription
I find doing a box slide to fakie easier
It is. But most people tend to lean back way to much when doing box slide to switch so I try to teach to straight first since it often helps people to get a better posture from the beginning and it can help to avoid bruises on the hips :P
You should look down the slope if you ski fakie.
But nice video :)
+MF Agreed. We go through that in our how to ski switch tutorial. What was the main thing you learned from this video?
+Stomp It Tutorials
Stay straight on box.
Distance between the ski.
greetings from germany :)
man great video. however i have a problem skiing out of the rail in a forward position, I always tend to land sideways at the end like i am unable to get my 90 rotation out of the rail once i reach the end any tips on this? i can 180 out fine as shown in the video tho but have a hard time 90'ing back out forward. Ive seen people peddle out in other tutorials or is my solution just to really force myself to pop at the end to do the rotation
TheDowner911 try pedaling just take your foot that's forward and bring the tail downwards and press on the side of the box with it
where are you skiing
Flynn Main laax, switzerland
Intro Song?
89thstreetfilm The intro song is by Philly Joseph. Unfortuneately he has taken down this song from his soundcloud but there some newer songs on there to listen to. soundcloud.com/phillyjoseph/tracks
I tried this and pulled my groin
Every time I almost fall sideways when i try to do that. Its too slippery
Stop leaning back extend the rear leg and practise and you will get it :)
Stomp It Tutorials thanks :D

Woodprix is a good solution for every woodworker.
Great to see it. I did it too. The plans from Woodglut helped me a lot :)
Thats not right to keep chest streight forward when sliding...that looks shitty, but for beginers its start for sliding...
+Tomass Vilcins i agree not the most steezy but It makes a big difference in balance and helps you to get of to straight when you dont know how to lock. In the end of the tutorial when doing it to fakie we kept the chest the same direction as the feature. Thanks.
It's fucking easy I can do a 270 on a rail
Congratulations
