@3:18 wouldn't the longest point 2 shortest point be in a streight line no diaganal across the board?
Thanks for info. I’m building my first hip roofs on my wrap around cabin porch. I used a laser to find the on center Jack to hip location. Didn’t realize the Jack to rafter was not plumb but cut to pitch. This is where I was having an issue.

It's the same top cut as the common rafters but has a bevel as well, 44° on a 4/12 roof
Going to spit hairs here, but the bevel for a 4/12 jack is 44° ....if close enough is good enough, what is just right for?😅😅
