My first car after passing my test in the early 80s. White on which I put 4 Wipac spot lights on the front. Even remember the reg OCE180M . I later had a purple one after my Mark2 Mexico
this was my first car i bought one brand new in 1974 it was £1195, i got it for £1150 it was the dearest escort at the time ,some one pinched my front spotlights after two weeks,my fav car of all time,i can still smell the newness of it,my brother bought it off me after 6 years and when he was in hospital someone pinched it off the hospital car park
My first car back in the day. It was the same colour as a prosthetic limb and sadly disintegrated in a low speed collision with a 24 hour recovery vehicle. True.
A great car but as others have mentioned a target, had mine stolen more than once and most of the things in it :( even back in the day with an alarm fitted all a thief had to do was look at it and the doors would open, the only time the alarm would go off was when there was nobody within one mile of the car lol
MY FIRST CAR WAS A 1300E PURPLE ESCORT IT WAS £1195 ,I GOT IF FOR £1150 BRAND NEW IN 1974 IT WAS MY FAV CAR ,THE RECTANGULAR HEAD LIGHTS WERE PINCHED OFF IT AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS
99 mph in 1973, very impressive, and better than a 1.6 Cortina of that era and with better economy, considering the fuel crisis was round the corner. Actually this is only 4 mph slower than my 1.25 Fiesta so is excellent for 1973. Also note the driver putting on his seat belt, this was when belting up was becoming a major issue. My teacher was an early advocate, he suffered bad facial injuries in a crash without wearing a belt and after that gave talks on the importance of seatbelts.
Unfortunately the Escort wasn't renowned for security, unless there was a rottweiler inside, or a 'kill-switch' fitted - I heard at one point with the Mk2 models, there were only five key combinations! As for driving lights, I have a set on my Mk2 Escort, which have never been tampered with in the 7 years I've had the car! (A colleague had one when new with drivinglights, which he usually had to remove unless on trips, due to them being 'sought after' by theives)...
Looks great in purple! One of Ford's better efforts, the old MkI Escort - I'd have one. In case anyone is wondering, the background music is a thing called "The Man in the White Suit" by multi-instrumentalist and former member of Manfred Mann, Mike Vickers. This is it, here: /watch?v=BlvJMwkA-qk&feature=related Maybe it should have been called: "The Woman in the Purple Escort!" :-)
Had many of these 'E' models, best colour purple velvet . . . Love it 😆😆😆
Listening to that music, I was half expecting Ron Jeremy and Linda Lovelace to suddenly appear any moment...

Sweet looking car. I find this more attractive than what we got by the 1980s.
