This style of car advertising should be bought back immediately... just add: Porn music, handbrake turns, shagging birds on passenger seat, jumps, crazy body roll, near misses, 180 power slides, wheel spins and 2 speed fresh air vents.. ha ha
Fond memories of being 17 and thrashing the guts out of my Dad's 1978 Escort 1.3L whenever he let me borrow it. Now the boot is on the other foot and I'm giving my own son the big ear about driving sensibly and looking after my motor.
my first car in 1980 I was earning £35 a week landscaping saved up £150 for a mint 13cc light blue off the local garage and had it for 3 years loved it great memories
Watching the last part of this ad from 5:27 brought tears to my eyes for reasons unknown. Back in the day, 1992, I remember driving this car, a beige mk 2, 2.0 liter Escort Brenda which I borrowed from my late uncle an ex rally racer with a port polished engine and Webber carb to victory in a friendly drag race against a bmw 318i coincidentally driven by one of my rival suitors to the girl we were courting! Unfortunately, he eventually ended up with the girl which I suspected was due to his wealthy parents. But the fact prevails that I kicked his ass in that race! (Teary eyed as I’m writing now!)
It's crash testing. All those stylishly thin roof pillars, flat noses, thin doors and flat surfaces means terrible EuroNCap scores. The roof pillars on the current Focus are designed so a joyrider can clip the curb, fly off the top of a motorway underpass, land on the roof and still run away unscratched. The doors can take side-impacts from lorries. The crumple zones can absorb the impact of a crash far more easily, and if you plough into a pedestrian, that pedestrian can roll off the bonnet without breaking their neck.
Ford has made some nice cars over the years, including the Escort MK2 Ghia and the MK3 Ghia. Both those cars were great, but the Escort MK4 and MK5 was the beginnings of F.O.R.D. Losing its way, especially when it closed down its huge manufacturing facility at Ford, Dagenham U.K. But a lot of manufacturers have had similar fates, with increased competition, stringent safety laws to abide by which can change the overall look of a car and the way it handles the road. But if Ford can recapture it’s heyday in some way, without designing, tacky retro looking cars, it might just be onto a winner. But electric cars are the future, but they just don’t sound the same as a combustion engine running, often, which gave each Ford unique exhaust sounds, when you started up your car.
I own a '79 RS2000 and I wish the suspension was that good as shown in the video. What happens to those eggs feels like my spine at times. Still can't beat about fun a Mk2 Escort is to drive though.
My mate had a 1600 Sport. Ripped out the 1600, bunged in a stage 3 prepped 1300 lump with two big Webers (had to ditch the brake servo to fit the carbs). Did 15 to the gallon and flexed the floor pan on the torque. Went like shit off a stick and no fookin brakes. Mad.
The square headlamps always appeared on the GL and Ghia models - it was from the start of 1979 when the L gained the square lights, when the range had a slight cosmetic makeover.
I remembered when ford Australia switched to Japan for the replacement lasers of all kinds 1981-2002.we were not to see another European in the class for 21 years.
The Golf looks 20 years newer!!! 😂😂😂 And the contrast with today is amazing; now one would never show a car skidding to highlight its handling or safety prowess....
Escort MK2 was made in Halewood, UK; Saarlouis, FRG; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Cork, Ireland; Nazareth, Israel; Homebush, Australia; Wiri, New Zealand and Pretoria, South Africa.
I'm sure the Escort Mk2 cabin's filtration system would have taken care of any foul odour issues. If not, the gentleman would have to wait another 7 years before the launch of the Ford Sierra to ensure foul odour free/ fart free motoring!
Wonderful vid from back in the day.... I had three of the four higher performance models.... 1600 sport RS mexico & RS 2000....I sure wish I had kept them....😂
I am.48 years old and I wonder why this car design is so appealing to me. Sadly the new Ford models today like Focus has no semblance to MK2, rear wheel drive and timeless design esp the tail lamps.
Who needs a Touareg to pull a jet huh? Just hook up your Esky and away you go! Oh, and I'm going to try that cigarette lighter thing next time I take a girl out in the car. She seemed to find it a hell of a turn-on!
lovely car ;D have a ford escort mk2 1.3l 4door :) but these escort has square frontlights, didn't they come in 1977 when they did the modellchange or something?
Great video. For the first 2 minutes thought I was watching an old porn movie! And who needs a Van when you can fit that much luggage in an old Escort at 2:38 Got a suspicion all that stuff didn't actually make it into the boot. His bird must have been high maintenance assuming it's her luggage, or was he using it as ballast to stop the rear end sliding out? Also when he was loading it with luggage the car had Rostyles, but pulling the plane *cough* it suddenly had Steels.
Thanks for telling me about this Wodge! Takes me back to 80's when I was a nut! By the way, that colour is not Signal Orange, it is Signal Red - that horrible milky, pinky gay colour that belongs on a nissan micra!

Banbury litho absolutely. Car ads all about apps.
And Police chase .. 😂
One of the best looking cars in them days bring the escort back

£150 for a mk 2 escort? It couldn't be more than 5 year old
"No more fumbling when you need a little warmth" yep.....the Escort is for me!
Mine too. Mk2 Escort. The legendary king of rally racing.

A lot of interesting looking cars from the 70s, especially Ford and GM's European divisions must have had some great designers imo
ONE OF MY DREAMCARS WITH KADETT C 1973-1979
Why can't we have cars that look like this anymore? They are all ugly devil-faced blobs on wheels now! Bloody aerodynamics! Pah!
I know right! The 1970dodge charger R/T looks 100 times better than the 2014 one

***** i dare say u are from the uk then?
So you can spend hours trying to find yours in a crowded car park 😀
PAH!
I like the van models of the mk1&2 Escorts.

Still can't beat about fun a Mk2 Escort is to drive though.
Too bad we didn't have those Escorts in the states. We had to wait until fall 1980!
Bought a new 1300 Ghia in 1979. Sky blue with a black vinyl roof. Loved that car.
Brilliant! Brought back memories of first driving experiences in my dad's 1.3L.
AWESOME, had a 1300 in blue, 2 door.
Mad.
In Australia the 2 litre Pinto ohc engine made it a stormer. And a classy shape. The boot was huge.
escort is a good car!
The mk2 has always been the best looking escort and so tunable
I'm sold, I'm saving up for one of these so I''ll get all the birds like him
Hope you get your 'cigar lighter' to pop up then....
I had an Aussie model Escort. 1977.
2 litre OHC cam. Loved it. Collectable now.
I remember the Ford Escort of this year. Quite a good car.
I had the 1977 Aussie assembly 2 door GL with Rally pack. Including the 2 litre Pinto OHC cam engine. It was a great little car.
There's no way all those cases fit into that escort boot 🤣
The square headlamps always appeared on the GL and Ghia models - it was from the start of 1979 when the L gained the square lights, when the range had a slight cosmetic makeover.
I think the round lights look better
If only they'd bothered painting them underneath bloody rotboxes!! Solid rear axle, McPherson struts..Same old same old from uncle Henry.
And leaf springs. The Avenger (which this car was clearly copied from) sat on rear coil springs 5 years earlier.
My first car, loved it. made down the road in Halewood :)
I remembered when ford Australia switched to Japan for the replacement lasers of all kinds 1981-2002.we were not to see another European in the class for 21 years.
The Golf looks 20 years newer!!! 😂😂😂
And the contrast with today is amazing; now one would never show a car skidding to highlight its handling or safety prowess....
No way he got all those cases in the boot!.
I have an mk2 Escort, and indeed, they don't fit at all 😂😂
@@maxeluy me too
Escort MK2 was made in Halewood, UK; Saarlouis, FRG; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Cork, Ireland; Nazareth, Israel; Homebush, Australia; Wiri, New Zealand and Pretoria, South Africa.
Gorgeous car.
changes the air every 20 seconds? Thats a lot time to endure a rogue fart!!
I'm sure the Escort Mk2 cabin's filtration system would have taken care of any foul odour issues. If not, the gentleman would have to wait another 7 years before the launch of the Ford Sierra to ensure foul odour free/ fart free motoring!
Lol Lol Lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love the signature tune
I'm convinced! Where can I buy my ford escort? Everything we dooooo is driven by youuuuu!

I believe the square head lamps were introduced as a face lift in 1978. Or did the Ghia (as shown in the video) have squares alle the time from '75?

but these escort has square frontlights, didn't they come in 1977 when they did the modellchange or something?
Better stability while spinning? What were they on?
14 Morris Marina owners disliked this, as there are only around 14 Marinas left they shouldn't be difficult to track down.

longer hair.

Great video.

AHAHAJA! Me too. Thought it was porn!
Thanks for telling me about this Wodge! Takes me back to 80's when I was a nut!
By the way, that colour is not Signal Orange, it is Signal Red - that horrible milky, pinky gay colour that belongs on a nissan micra!
