      If you've ever owned something much nicer like a 911 S with PASM, you know how a car's suspension is supposed to feel. Come back when you're more knowledgeable.

      How much is MSRP of a 911 s compared to the RS5? Two totally different ball games, shouldn’t even be compared to one another

    I've never read or watched a single review that complained about the S Tronic.

    • @autonauts
      @autonauts  9 років тому +2

      Tony Bland It is an amazing transmission, and it more than accomplishes what its designers likely set out to achieve: really fast shifts. Having said that, in certain situations the S-Tronic struggles somewhat. Creeping forward in first gear and then coming to a stop repeatedly results in an unrefined jerkiness as the clutch engages and disengages in first gear. That gets old very quickly. Going up hills and downshifting from 4th to 3rd, the car lurches and bucks and then makes a slow shift. Coincidentally, my RS5 is in the shop right now for transmission problems, so mine might be an isolated case. Thanks for your comment!

      +AutoNauts , SMG had wire issue fixed and they lurch in 1st gear so you want out of it quick.

    Jack of all trades is exactly why I want an RS5. My SS Camaro is a great car when you drive it like a sports car but sucks in normal traffic. My old Altima was a great every day car but was a turd trying to have fun. The RS5 seems like a perfect daily, I can relax around town in comfort mode but hit the highway in dynamic mode & let her sing!

      I have a B8.5 RS5, trust me long drives are back aching. I Prefer my porche Macan for that. Suggest that people try the car first before thinking long term.

      Exactly why I'm looking to get one as my daily. I only drive about 19 miles round trip a day so I'm hoping that will cut down on repair costs for a really expensive to repair 10 year old car without a warranty.

    I own an RS5 2015.
    Hard ride and aggressive acceleration is what this car is, hence the badge RS (Race Sport). If you need a day to day car toned down, try the S5. I love the RS5 for its race car qualities.

    • @autonauts
      @autonauts  9 років тому

      Hi Tim, congrats on the RS5! While I love the "race car" features of this vehicle (like that 8,200 RPM redline), it's simply too heavy. It weighs over 4,200lbs! The 991 Carrera S is as aggressive or race inspired as the RS5, yet the 991 handles bumps and uneven roads like a champ, never feels unsettled or stiff. The real issue here is that Audi wasn't able to use its adjustable suspension system in the U.S. version of the RS5 due to it conflicting with NHTSA crash regulations. The RS7 I drove was very comfortable compared to the RS5, because it had that adjustable suspension. You are correct about the S5 being a better daily driver, but I'm glad Audi finally brought the RS5 to the U.S.!

      I also own 2015 RS5 and I agree. It's exactly what I want from a sports car. I find it to be an excellent GT car for travelling across Europe as I do, it's fun, sure-footed on all types of surface, the soundtrack is to die for. Love it! Test drove the new RS5 and sorry, but I could not live with that car daily as it just sounds less than average. Very disappoint ing car in this respect and it has no real usable space for rear passengers despite being a much larger compared to B8 platform.

    Rs5 owner here. Two problems discussed were the suspension and gearbox, the dynamic suspension optional extra on the sport pack can be avoided by not upgrading it, or now of course not buying a Rs5 without it/keep it in comfort setup. As for gearbox, best best is to adjust it in the manual setup to comfort rather than dynamic or drive using the paddles. Problems solved

      @Goczku 2 роки тому

      What is your total cost of maintenance ?

    • @chubbsmasterson
      @chubbsmasterson 2 роки тому +2

      @@Goczku Generally fairly reliable but regular service needs 9l oil roughly.
      Big services are very pricey, changing oils in gearbox, differentials etc. Brake discs warp and very costly as they’re the same as the R8s. £1400 in UK so I bought aftermarket non wavy disc.
      Fuel economy is 15mpg average but that’s the cost of a V8. Also tyres are huge therefore pricey also.

    • @Goczku
      @Goczku 2 роки тому

      @@chubbsmasterson not bad at all but i hear that the price of timing gear is really high is that true ?

    • @chubbsmasterson
      @chubbsmasterson 2 роки тому +2

      @@Goczku I’ve never had to do so but definitely assume so! Timing chain on a V8, so best either get a lower mileage example or source one which has has its chain replaced. Mine only 34k miles to never need to look into it. But any jobs on the V8 are going to be expensive labour wise.

    I own RS5 and I think he’s right. Not fun to drive as a B7 RS4 can be (I have that too). It’s heavy not too much torque and a bit sterile to drive.

    I’ve been looking for an RS5 but they’re so expensive when you consider the maintenance without warranty. I have had nightmares where I actually own an RS5 and the check-engine light comes on.
    This is still my dream car, but I think I would rather save up more $, and get lower mileage. Unfortunately this model is only getting older and they’re getting harder to find with proper maintenance records/few owners. Any RS5 owners with maintenance complaints between 40k-70k miles???? Please reply 🤙🏼

      You're still one lucky guy! My RS5 was in the shop for a week and I was given an S4 with the supercharged V6, and let me tell you, I loved it! With the RS5 you have to want to go fast and wait for the engine to rev out, it's a grand show but it feels a bit contrived. With the S4/S5 you get near instant torque, and it makes city driving so much more enjoyable. Not to mention, the S4/S5 weigh considerably less than the RS5, and have Audi's adjustable suspension so they're much more comfortable. After driving that S4, I have considered trading my RS5 in on an S5 with a manual transmission!

    • @briankasoziiii7794
      @briankasoziiii7794 9 років тому +1

      AutoNauts don't trade it in. All you need is to add a PES supercharger which will compensate for the "low end missed power" and then some

    It’s 3.9 to 4.0 sec that is the official number mate !!! , get it right next time, if you can’t even read the brochure don’t do a Review. And I don’t think you have any real experience, and very little knowledge about what you where trying to talk about with the car ( US version of Audi RS5 ) that you where trying to do review on. And the the only car the RS5 shares similar interior specs with is the S-line B8 and B8.5 S4/S5 it dose not include the A-line up of Audi’s standard producing cars. Most everything about the S-line and RS-line is completely different from the A-line from Audi. So stop talking please thanks mate cheers !!!!
