It's interesting how the Dune books seem to oscillate between books that feel tight in their plotting and books that feel dense in their depths. God Emperor and Chapterhouse feel at times monolithic in the weight of their themes and the scope of their vision, whereas Children and Heretics have more of an adventurous tone to them that makes them more satisfying on initial read, but the God Emperor and Chapterhouse are the wellsprings I keep going back to, if that makes sense.

My guess is that the concept of breakaway Face Dancers with Daniel and Marty was one similar to Other Memories of BG and Leto II. They capture personas of others so perfectly, so completely that each person added becomes another Other Memory in their mind, and who knows, maybe each of their Other Memories as well. That would mean their knowledge and vision would increase geometrically with each added persona, combined with their far superior technology, turning them into Kwisatz Haderach-like beings, far beyond even Leto II's or Duncan's and Teg's capabilities. Yet through all of that, they have no inherent personal identity, they must create one themselves. There is an artificiality to them, a sort of antithesis to what humanity is, as seen and described by Herbert.
I don't know what their purpose was, or if it was anything beyond a self insert by Herbert and his partner, but whatever it was, I think they ultimately failed at it when it comes to Duncan and the no-ship. The feeling I got when Duncan set the no-ship towards an unknown destination they were forever separated from the rest of the story, the Old Empire, the Matres and the Ones of Many Faces. That's a real Scattering moment, setting out blindly into an unknown corner of a seemingly infinite universe. Once the travel was complete, they were truly and completely alone, separated from everything they had ever known. I would assume Frank would have brought them into contact with another pocket of Scattering in the next book, using that opportunity to explore other dimensions of the Scattering and its effects on humanity. I don't see any reason why any of the characters in the no-ship would ever have a reason to or have the means to return to the Old Empire. Who knows, there isn't much to go on with.
Back in the Old Empire I would expect a lot of disorder and restlessness happening due the unification of BG and HM, the breaking down of the dogmas of the Butlerian Jihad, and the anxious anticipation of the inevitable arrival of the Ones with Many Faces. It sounds like the buildup to Kralizec, and if the no-ship crew were somehow tied to it from the other end, it would be very interesting. Perhaps on the contrary to what Frank's son imagined, the machines weren't going to be the great enemy, but the future of the BG/HM organization, with their first steps towards Cyborg production taken. Maybe the point was going to be that humanity had finally evolved and progressed enough to reintegrate artificial intelligence into the human society, and that would somehow work towards the establishment of a universal democracy that Frank once hinted would be the ending point of the series.
Anyway, congrats on finishing your grand project! It has been a fun journey and has also been great to discover others as passionate about Dune as I am. I personally would not be interested in delving into Brian Herbert's books in the slightest, as from the most basic outline they clearly and grossly miss Frank's vision, but others might disagree with me. I would personally recommend you the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, whose writing is somewhat similar to that of GRRM. I think you would enjoy them a lot, and I'd love to see your take on them too.

@@darthbrooks4933 Also face dancers have always been bio machine hybrids!!
They were " thinking machines" in violation of the jihad , humanity just didn't realise it yet .
Once again they had made machine slaves who had the potential to become enemies!
Humanity was so focused on inorganic machine enemies yet they replicated biological ones
I still think machines really were defeated and if necessary could be defeated again however humanity has never faced a mass face dancer attack

I have to agree with the Organism. I always thought Daniel and Marty were meta characters, like a self-insert from Frank Herbert, meant to be Frank Herbert and his wife, Beverly Herbert. I got the feeling he knew he wasn't going to be able to complete the story, so those two characters, gardening, watching the inhabitants of the no-ship, discussing them getting away, and their plans for them, were like Herbert admitting the ending had escaped him, perhaps due to age or health, as the couple gardening invoked images or feelings of an older, retired couple, reflecting on life, and the inhabitants of the no-ship, Herbert's characters, his creations, were like his children, and he had great hopes, dreams, and plans for them, but he knew he wouldn't be able to see what becomes of them. I certainly never thought they were robots from before the Butlerian Jihad, though I did think the Honored Matres may have been feeling some remanent of the old thinking machines who were trying to go on with their existence beyond the human occupied space, only to have their ancient enemy and creators invade their space. But then again, I wasn't the one to find boxes and boxes of notes in an attic that contradict much of what was actually written in the original novels, so what do I know of Frank Herbert's intentions for continuing the Dune universe...

I also think, Chapterhouse was a worthy end to the story. I mean, the "universe" has pre-novel history (that includes the main characters) and it will a post-novel future. And the end of Chapterhouse either resolved the most important plot-lines or put them well on their way to be resolved in a post-novel future.
Mind you, Frank was not someone who explained his universe beyond what was actually necessary to tell the story, leaving much open to individual interpretation... which would also be in line with the vast time-frame (in which truth is easily lost in legend). Thus, leaving open what was left open at the end of Chapterhouse is a good way to conclude Dune.
That said, I don't think the son's sequels are as bad as they are often made out to be. Of course they are far from "daddy's" books. But a nice and interesting continuation and conclusion. My biggest problem with them is the whole Facedancers on Ithaca plot line... that was so infuriatingly lazy writing. Mentats such as Duncan and Miles would have never allowed them to remain undetected for this long... not with all the signs and evidence that had been piling on from the very day when they "escaped" from the Handlers' homeworld. Did they really believe, the old Rabbi was "sporty" enough to flee? Did they really believe that Thufir's awakening failed because the "witches" failed?? Did they really not connect the dots between the saboteurs skillfully evading security systems without a traitor among those who set them up and controlled them? Did they really not remember that the Rabbi was with Thufir on the Handlers' world, when it was revealed that he was a Facedancer?? Did they really not think about properly locking the doors of the interrogation room (or the bridge or any other vital place)?? Would Miles really not have stepped in to catch the revealed Facedancer, before he killed the guards and went to the bridge?? Why didn't any of the Reverend Mothers with their superior fighting skills step in at that point??
This made me rage-quit multiple times... though I'm glad that I picked the book up again to read to the end. It's a bit too hunky-dory, when compared to Frank's novels, but I think it is a nice conclusion. And were it not for that disastrously bad Facedancers on Ithaca plotline, it would actually be a rather good book. Still not on "daddy's" Level, but still good.

I agree with you. Herbert’s wife had cancer and he devoted much of his time to care for her so probably had no time to write a 7th book. He leaves it for each of us to figure it out. I think it’s a great ending as life continues and we don’t always have to know the future… Idaho and Sheana escape prescience.

I would love if you did a Quinn Talks unscripted video on where you think Dune Book 7 may have gone in more detail based solely on your opinion, and conjecture from what the previous novels seemed to have been setting up throughout the six original novels. Even better still would be if you maybe decided to do a full fan fiction on Dune Book 7. Whether it be in a video format, or written form; I would be happy with either. Any direction you may take the story has got to be better than the hot mess we got stuck with in Hunters and Sandworms of Dune. I definitely consider your interpretations as the most consistent with what Frank Herbert seems to have intended of all the content currently available. Diskette of Dune Book 7 notes in a deposit box be damned! Congratulations, and I hope you continue with more Dune content in some form on your channel. Thanks for everything you have done to make Dune resonate to everyone.

That would be pretty interesting to me also. I never read any of the sequels/prequels, so my last experience of Dune is the conclusion of Chapterhouse Dune. It's haunting because it hints at a very different direction the next book might go. I like to think that the feared enemy the Honored Matres were running away from was Daniel and Marty ... just those two, and the minions under their thrall.
To me, it makes sense that it would be just those two. If these advanced face dancers absorb others, why not each other? The end result would be that only the strongest remain, absorbing all the others. But being aware of the deep loneliness of Leto II, they would end with two remaining rather than one, just so they'd have each other to talk to.
Anyway, the sheer power of these two hints that the universe beyond the "net" is full of similarly powerful and dangerous entities ... ones that weren't so weak like the Honored Matres that they'd need to run away back to the old imperium.
So that's the sort of realm I imagined we'd see in the next book. I imagined Duncan and the others thrown into a completely unknown unimaginably expansive realm where they were motes among giants. I imagined that like Daniel and Marty, these giants would be quintessentially homo sapiens, so they are the true fulfillment of Leto's Golden Path. Those caught in the "net" would be doomed dead-enders to the machine killers. That Duncan and a small handful of others somehow managed to escape the net was luck, rather than part of any plan.
I don't know what Herbert may have planned. I just imagine that if he had gone in this direction, it would creatively free him up to bring in completely new beings with very different themes and messages to convey.

      @@newsmansuper2925 Dune 7.... sounds very woke.... 🤣
The sand was a fiery orange as the sun began to set over Arrakis. It was a time of change, a time of awakening. The old ways were no longer enough, no longer relevant to the complex world that was emerging. The people of Arrakis were waking up to new possibilities, to new ways of thinking and being.
At the heart of this change was the spontaneous movement known as reformers. They were a group of individuals who rejected the strict order and conformity of the old ways, choosing instead to embrace freedom, creativity, and individuality. They sought to break down the rigid hierarchy of the past and build a new society based on equality and respect for all.

It is one of my most favorite series of books, and I have read and reread them in my life. I have always spent a lot of time thinking about what it meant. I have incorparated many of Frank's ideas into my own beliefs about how to live a life, as well as how to be a good leader and person. Your Guides have given me new thoughts about the ideas of Dune. Best summary of Chapterhouse I've ever heard. Well done, sir. The end of this video really brings home the disappointment that Frank Herbert never finished the story and the abject failure of the supposed sequels. I'm certain that the lessons of the Butlerian Jihad we're totally lost on Brian Herbet and Anderson. I believe that the original point Frank Herbert was ultimately making was the overreaction of the Jihad and he was setting up an ultimate resolution hinted in the later novels. Some kind of human machine merging that would overcome the face dancer "Gods", perhaps? We'll never know..........
