Brood XIII Cicadas!

Here we have the Brood XIII cicadas! They are a species that will only emerge from the ground every 17 years! Before emerging, they are a smaller form and metamorphose into their current appearance. For 17 years, they will spend time underground resting and feeding. The creatures will mate, and the female will lay the eggs before the adults die.
What makes this year very unique is that there is a double emergence between the Brood XIII and XIX. It is only in Illinois and Indiana where you will see both of them. Iowa will only experience seeing the Brood XIII species.
