In a career that spanned more than six decades, he was an iconic entertainer whose songs have topped the charts with hits such as 'The Gambler,' 'Lady,' 'Islands In The Stream,' 'Lucille,' 'She Believes In Me,' and 'Through the Years.' Born and raised in Houston, he was the fourth of eight children in a poor family. He took to playing guitar as an adolescent and while in high school, he formed a rockabilly group, the Scholars, who recorded for a local label. After a brief stint at the University of Houston, he played bass in several jazz groups. In 1966, he moved to Los Angeles, where he joined the folk-pop group the New Christy Minstrels. The following year, Rogers founded the rock group the First Edition and scored two top-10 pop hits, 'Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In),' and 'Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town.' In 1976, he signed a solo deal and recorded 'Lucille,' which became his first No. 1 country hit and reached No. 5 on the national pop chart. It also earned Rogers his first Grammy, for best male country vocal performance. He also partnered with longtime female star Dottie West, and the duo racked up three No. 1 country singles. He would go on to notch five more No. 1 solo country singles by the end of the decade, the biggest of these were the Grammy-winning 'The Gambler' and 'Coward of the County.' Each song inspired TV movies featuring Rogers. In 1980, his 'Greatest Hits' landed at No. 1, that included 'Lady', 'Islands in the Stream' (with frequent partner Dolly Parton), and his version of Bob Seger’s 'We’ve Got Tonight' with Sheena Easton. Overall, he would earn three Grammys and six Country Music Association awards. By the time Rogers retired from performing for health reasons in 2018, he had placed more than 50 singles in the country Top 40, of which 20 also appeared in the pop Top 40. His signature song, 'The Gambler,' was added to the National Registry and among other honors, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. ryman auditorium cmt

I remember my boyfriend at the time and I in California riding down Sunset Boulevard and a Rolls-Royce pulled up next to us and it was Kenny Rogers with his then wife, Marianne, who was driving. The chauffeur was in the back seat. He saw us looking at him, rolled down his window and said hello to us. We then went to his home and put a note in his mailbox asking for a signed photograph in case our picture that we took didn't turn out. We received it in the mail a week later. A beautiful colored picture of he and Marianne saying " it was nice seeing you". What a classy guy!

I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York and in 1973 I got married and lived in Fort Campbell, KY my husband was in the service and I was home one day and put the music on and started listening to Kenny Roger's song 🎵. Didn't know nothing about country music but fell in love with Kenny Roger's songs. I listen to his songs once in a while. Kenny Roger's you are missed. Continue to R.I.P. 🙏♥️

I'm Brett from India and I grew up on country music. Everyone from George Jones, Haggard, Willie and Waylon but Kenny, he had a voice like no other...gritty and melodious . Though his grace lies here , I'm sure he's packing the stadiums above with his concerts. R.I.P. Gambler❤❤❤❤
I learned the words to his song "Coward of the County" when I was just a small child, the very first song that I'd ever learned the words to in my life. I grew up through the years listening to and loving this man and his music....and I always will!! RIP Mr. Rogers, loved you then, still love you and your music now....thank you for leaving us such a catalog of songs to enjoy for many many years to come ♥♥♥♥

I grew up listening to him and when I got married we chose Islands in the Streams as one of our songs. He is still amazing and very distinctive voice, also that cemetery is just beautiful. We have several old ones where I live too.

During his dry spell, he was plain gin the bar at the Holiday Inn in Houston, off Westheimer Dr and the loop. My then fiancé and I enjoyed listening to him and talking to him between sets. He was a decent and friendly man. Followed his career closely and enjoyed all his music and movies. Great job on this tour!

Color me impressed with this one. The cemetery looks really cool (the random umbrella at the gate was also a cute surprise), and Kenny Rogers' grave is fantastic! I don't think I've seen one like that before, but this is definitely a place I'll have to visit. Thank you for this video; I tuned in to see one grave and found a whole cemetery worth a look.

What a beautiful cemetery. Fun fact, my dad went to elementary school in Houston with Kenny. Lol, my momma and me used to tease him about it all the time. Omg!! I am completely devastated. As crazy as this sounds i feel like a part of me died with him. Since way back in the mid 60's i grew up listening to Kenny Rogers songs over and over again. I watched his "The Gambler"" movies whenever i could as a teenager in the early 80's my way idol was Kenny Rogers and to this day of December of 2021 i'm just as big as a fan now as i was back then. When i found out he died i cried and cried that the best thing in music was no longer with us. So Kenny with all that said my friend thank you for your beautiful songs and for being a part of my life all my life

When I heard that Kenny Rogers was deceased I didn't believe cause I didn't hear anyone in my area talking about it so I thought it was a hoax but then when it was confirm I was lost for words,may his soul rest in peace

I have been trying to find a channel which showed Kennys reating place love him ,he passed at the start of covid and never had the funeral he deserved his death was really a sad day for me xx watching from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺 and yes that is a beautiful cemetery
