- Imola played host of Round 2 of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship with the 6 Hours of Imola. The race featured mixed weather, mixed strategies, and on-track battles to make the year-end highlights.
The Hypercar and LMGT3 classes both had unexpected players step forward in the closing hours of the race, with neither class being won by the expected favorites from the start.
In this video, I'll be giving my review of the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Imola, including the strategic calls that decided the race.

UPDATE: 1:14 Both Alpines were initially penalized for drive time violations, but these penalties were removed. Car #35 finished 13th and Car #36 finished 16th.
"Honey let's make some popcorn GT Rain just posted a new video!"
It was a great race though and look forward to discussing it some more on Tuesday!
Great race, the future of WEC does look very promising and this could be the new golden age of sportscar racing
Small correction the incident in the first corner for the Hypercars was judged to be one of the Alpines fault and the Isotto was innocent and the 92 Porsche was a separate incident before the start line in the GT Pack
Thanks for the catch!
Dude I've been looking for someone that recaps the races! I don't often have the time to watch all the WEC and IMSA races, so I really appreciate your complete yet concise recap. Definitely earned a sub from me with this!
Top performers for me this race:
Hypercar: Antonio Fuoco and Nyck De Vries
GT3: Alex Malykhin and Augusto Farfus
It was such a *chefs kiss* a great race!
That was a great victory of Toyota. They won by strategy and not being the fastest car which was clearly the Ferrari at dry and Porsche on mixed condition. Kobayshi and De Vries did awesome job also with Connway managing all the job done.
WEC podcast! that's crazy
We'll be live tonight!
Nice recap!
Appreciate it!
This was the first time I've watched WEC live, and first time leaving North America. - I'm 43. What a way to start!
On Saturday, my dad asked me what I thought was going to happen. I answered Ferrari on speed, but this was just after I had been chased away from the track due to the monsoon during the Super Trofeo race. That's when I hedged my bets and predicted that if it came down to weather strategy, then Penske and Toyota were my picks. During the race, I'm at Tosa when the rains came and the 499s were getting passed by GT3s, and I seemed to be the only person that was furiously perplexed by Ferrari not coming in. I actually sent a text to my brother back in Canada "Box, Box, Box!" screaming at Ferrari!
You definitely picked a great race as your first one!
that was a good race! BOP seemed on point. the rain was an interesting wild card.
Imola is a nice facility. its a bit tight and hard to pass but I would not say its any worse than some of the North American tracks. I
I like Monza but if the WEC wants to try out other circuits Im cool with that too. Monza has a lot of history. its the INDY of Europe. (lemans is in another world)
I would like to see WEC go to Muggello or RedBull ring.
BOP relevant except for PEUGEOT… , www.autohebdo.fr/app/uploads/2024/04/Capture-decran-2024-04-13-112515-1024x490.png
Ferrari was a little off. But the rest of the field were close. Even the BMW and the Lamborghini are (Sort of)competitive
@@scottbradord1094Ferrari were off? the only thing off about Ferrari was their pitwall.
great summary and video as always!
Great race! Just sucks it was so hard to pass and those "respecting blue flag" penalties were a bit harsh given how tight Imola is.
top content!🥂
Ferrari screwing up strategy calls? Inconceivable!
Really appreciate this recap!! I was at the race live and it was difficult to follow the whole race due to disappointed Ferrari fans everywhere😅
And would be great if you can post them on Spotify so i can listen at work
Something to consider! My full podcast race recaps are already on Spotify though!
@@GTRain Great to hear! Ill check them out tomorrow👌
What was the BMW DQed for? I guess it doesn't make a difference but I'm still curious.
Same reason as the Peugeot at Qatar. They were not able to return to parc fermé under their own power.
Hopefully Peugeot can enter top 5 next race
This race was fun... kind of boring for most of it (tho lap one was a mess), then the rain and Ferrari cracked it wide open. After that, this was anyone's race.
The Alpine 36 finished ahead of Isotta
The #36 was bumped to 17th after the penalty.
Just saw how that the penalties for Alpine were removed. Will update.
don't put red background on the bottom of the thumbnail. it looks like an already watched video.
The battle between the two endurance gigants for first in the last 30 minutes reminded me why i love racing.
Which Manufacture has for you also the Potential to close the Gap to Great?
I think all of the new manufacturers will get closer to the front runners throughout the season as they learn more about their cars. But in particular I’d say Alpine. They have a strong team and I know we haven’t seen what that program is capable of yet.
@@GTRain Also Lamborghini, BMW Peugeot, and Cadillac?
@@user-swvn3ti2d I think Cadillac has been the biggest disappointment. GM has put a lot of money into this. It is a year and two races and they never have even challenged for a win. The 3rd at LeMans was due to attrition among the other cars.
Hopefully Ferrari will Comeback stronger at Spa Franchomps and that the FIA and ACO don't change the BoP again
Well they have to change the BoP since Spa is a totally different circuit to Imola. Also Peugeot would be in No Man's Land again.
you’re misinformed as to what BoP is.
BoP is track dependent. you cannot use the same BoP at Imola that you do at Qatar, and likewise for Spa-Francorchamps, because all three of those tracks are massively different to each other.
9 lap penalty
I was hoping Alpine would do better in Hypercar than F1, but Apline is gonna be Alpine I suppose
Way too early to make a judgement. Lambo is dealing with the same thing and so did Porsche Ferrrari and BMW ( in IMSA) last year.
this was literally their second race in a brand new car.
