I found out about this game a couple hours ago. The feelings I got can only be described as painful but joyful nostalgia.
It's such a nice idea, well executed... The whole stonks thing makes it a little prohibitive, but I hope to get a couple decks someday.

I backed the crowdfunding campaign because great art inspired by early Pokémon, which I love. Paranomal stuff is also very entertaining for me since I was in elementary. Got my package last week. I actually know little/nothing because I'm not in on the community because my computer is a potato. My initial/basic impression is that the game mechanisms are derivative, and that this will only be a limited time novelty card game which isn't trying to compete with the Big Three; certainly not something to invest in. Just a dream project made with love and appreciated by us fans with love. I doubt I will ever even play it.
Interesting how people like the artwork. I'm born in '88 and to me it looks like a product produced in the nineties that now somehow shows up. To me it looks a bit too simplistic and toy - like, and I do love Munchkin. Funny how tastes vary (:

All I meant to say with that comment was that it's harder to do what FaB did to Magic, to Pokemon. Pokemon is literally the most successful media franchise in history, and the expanding interest in the card game last year was driven mostly by nostalgia for the media franchise and investment, not organic growth in the player base. The audience growth for Pokemon cards over the last year came from hype and emotional spending more than consistent collectors and new players. It's a harder space to operate in than the MTG space, where hype is much lower and almost every collector/investor is also a player.
Such a Timmy move to actually go in and invest in this crap, lol

You wanted printrun #'s, here's what's been printed thus far: 2500 Booster boxes, 1000 Spellbooks, and 500 of each of those theme decks. All of these except for the spellbook are sold out at this point, and honestly I don't know how those books are still up.

I think this is* the real deal, but they do need to update their quality of cardstock/quality control a bit. BUT* to be fair, they said they were already doing so (I'm a part of the MZ discord and have watched most of the creators twitch streams)
As a current judge (MetaZoologist), there is something unique about MetaZoo's community: there's minimal toxicity, it's open to everyone, and people treat others as people.
From an investment standpoint, the company is very open with their print run numbers and work hard to keep the game collectible. We're already seeing cards sold at 10 times their intial printed value, before the game was released.
Whether you're a player, collector, and/or investor, definitely check out MetaZoo!

It’s a very interesting game that blends elements from the big 3 card games (Magic, Yugioh, and of course Pokémon).
Art is very nostalgic, but stands apart from classic Pokémon (most of the time), with designs that really spark pride from the legends and folklore of your region (of your from New Jersey or Washington DC, Jersey Devil and Bunnyman, respectively, will hit you where it counts). So it connects even better than Pokémon, in the fact that you can immediately recognize a favorite just from where you’re from.
The gameplay is still developing, but balanced overall. Different modes of play for each type of player, from aggro rush to control to tempo. The game removes mill as an alternate win condition, which helps makes games more friendly and less aggravating to the victim of the mill (as a Pokémon mill lover, I do respect that it’s not the healthiest type of deck to focus on). But games play smoothly, and are easy to jump into.
The big draw for MetaZoo’s gameplay is the 4th Wall elements. Basically imagine you’re playing in Duelist Kingdom, in the days of Yugioh where you choose what boosts are received based on WHERE you play, not just what cards you have. Play in a Forest, and sure your Forest Beasties (the monsters of the game) gain a boost in attack. But also your Bigfoot becomes Invisible and resists Spells, making it a killing machine, or a major support. Play in a City and your Mothman can get a boost, or you can play a boosted Sewer Gator. Many of these are available as Terra Cards, which allow players in Arizona to play Frost cards, or players in Ohio to play Ocean dwelling creatures effectively. It’s a very fun twist, that will only get better with more cards and combos released.
Overall, the game is fun and easy to learn, with great art and great character in the creatures depicted. I can see it being a formidable rival to Pokémon, but I see it more as it’s own thing, taking the best of its predecessors and starting to lay the foundations to become something more.

How does it connect better than pokemon based on where you're from? Thats just encourging exclusivity. If you see a pokemon, no matter who you are, you can say oh i remember this monster from so and so in the anime/games. Me being from california have no clue who the jersey devil/easter presidential rabbit is. The 4th wall is neat but will probably be just a gimmick in the end. Are you really gonna tell your buddies to play a card game in the forest?

I love the artwork because the water color design they use reminds me of original pokemon art so that's a huge plus for me

As Rudy probably did not pay for this box the metazoo company could have at least unsealed all the sent product. Now they have literally just sent him new investment/ money for free. And I am still waiting for him to actually open and review the product....

I don’t know about the game but I do know two things....
1. There’s nothing wrong with trying out/playing/selling a new thing. Even if it’s a small investment you never know where it can take you.
2. 1st edition anything is probably good. Even if it crashes and burns if you have diamond hands you will probably have a good ROI in 20-30 years. Stay curious my friends!

Went and looked at it when I heard you mention it in the last video, seems like a cool game, ordered some stuff to try it out with a friend. The art may not be on the same level as other card games but I like it a lot, it makes me think of the old original YuGiOh cards I had when I was a kid.

I want to spend more money but I want it to be on the cards so hopefully that becomes accessible. I also have a few small stores that I think it would be interesting to stock these at.

Ok I just watched a box opening by the creator. My knee jerk reaction was that the art was questionable, but I gradually started to appreciate the Ken Sugimori hand-drawn feel. And the foils look fantastic. I think my bigger gripe was that the text fonts looked a bit plain. I love the cryptid theme though and especially that map of the USA with all the cryptids on it.

Ok so after this video I bought the spell book, then on a different order i got both playmats and the novel. The spell books at that point were sold out. I'll keep that one sealed but I hope to get some boosters too open. It'd be nice to collect something like this i love the art.

I mean for me personally I absolutely love these cards I don’t plan on playing the game but I already have a complete set and I bought about four boxes in order to complete that set and the reason why is because it reminds me so much of “old-school pokemon” I stopped collecting Pokémon cards when wizards of the coast lost the license and I don’t know the Pokémon company just haven’t been making the cards as good as when wizards of the coast used to when it comes to the design of the Pokémon cards artwork nowadays it is just to soulless but these MetaZoo cards definitely have soul in their designs it reminds me so much of my childhood from the 90s as long as they have this type of artwork in future sets I am going to get complete sets in every series and buy multiple boxes and other products in the future as long as this game sticks around hopefully it’ll be around for a long time but YES!!! Rudy I WOULD LOVE!!!!!!!!! to see more Metazoo Products for you and your channel whether it be you opening products for people or just you exploring the game and artworks of the cards yourself I just love this product also you should look into the rules of the game I hear that it’s pretty fun because of the “4th wall mechanic” and people say the game style has traits from Pokémon magic the gathering and even a little bit of Yu-Gi-Oh with the trap cards so Rudy just know that you have a loyal fan here on UA-cam that would watch any type of Metazoo content that you would release that would just be so awesome because this is like my favorite card game right now

I really insisted with the printer that we have our logo on it. Expensive as well, but honestly not too expensive. Delayed release probably longer than it should have, but totally worth it long term.
$1000 box the other day. Now a $10-15K box today. Crazy! But after doing some research I think it’s pretty cool what they are doing here. And the theme is was pretty smart. I’m digging it a ton.
Cryptids are interesting. They already have the niche appeal with the cryptids and the old school art. Some people say it has better gameplay than Pokemon. The thing is, Pokemon's gameplay is only a small part in its appeal. I doubt that this will be a formidable challenger.
However, it's interesting enough that I want to give it a try. To be honest, I like a balance of flashy and subtlety, which is what I think Pokemon does really well.
