Love to hear Pete and Chris impart their knowledge and zeal for Judas Priest and hard rock and heavy metal in general. Really enjoyed the history of Black Sabbath you did. Keep'em coming and good job.
My most favorite Priest album of all time is and will forever be Defenders of The Faith. I was at the concert at MSG that June night back in 1984. The entire evening was surreal. Everything after Great White opening and leaving the stage was a totally unbelievable experience. The band was banned for life that night and even to this very day they can't play the Garden. People were punching holes in the walls and ripping cushions out of the seats and also breaking the seats. Tossing M-80's everywhere and throwing bottles. It was a bad scene as a mob of thousands spilled into Penn Station and basically chanting Priest and terrorizing everyone that was in the station at that time. I remember the manager and a few employees protecting the doors of Beefsteak Charlies not allowing anyone inside. Other shop owners closing down their gates in fear. The train platform on both sides loaded with hundreds of metal heads screaming and smashing signs. It happened 35 years ago and I'll remember it for the rest of my life....the best yet craziest concert I was ever at....the next day Billy Joel was playing MSG and they had to add couple thousand folding chairs as many ticket holders had no place to sit. The Defenders album and tour to me was Priest at their height....even better album than Painkiller! I like Painkiller a lot but Defenders is part of my DNA.....that album defined who I was and it was a flawless album for the first 7 tracks When the night goes down and heavy duty/Defenders of the Faith were also good....honestly after 7 perfect songs of headbanging the last two you could catch your breath before starting it all over again.
Great show, guys! Im a newby here, but im a 62 yr old guy that was stationed in West Germany from 81 to 83. Saw some great shows there including the priest show at dortmund you mentioned and the one the year before. Everyone from Mötorhead to King Crimson. Some great tales! Thanks, again!
Sin after Sin and Stained Class were such big lp's for me and my headbanging buddies in high school. When British Steel came out it was like an era was over. Our "secret" was out. In hindsight i was almost resentful. LOL. Another awesome video guys. Thanks.
Saw Judas Priest in 1982 with Uriah Heep opening at the Sunrise Musical Theater...i was 11 and it was my second concert ...completely blew my mind and set me on a course of listening to heavy metal for the rest of my like....and now I am going to a concert this Friday night....guess who:?...Judas Priest and Uriah Heep....37 years later!!! Still rockin
Hey guys, i am from Brazil, I love hard rock and older heavy metal tunes, and i am glad to have found your channel. Today. Very good stuff, great videos with sabbath and Deep purple and this one here is awsome too. Looking forward to watch the Iron Maiden one.
My very first Priest concert was on their Defenders of the Faith tour. I’ll never forget it, what an amazing powerful and very loud show that was. My ears rang for three days after that show. I also got the chance to see Rob Halford do a show in a very small bar in Phoenix called the Mason Jar right around the Painkiller timeframe. He was there with a few musicians and did a dozen or so Priest songs, epic! He opened that show with Solar Angels. I was a mere few feet away from the Metal God himself.🤘🏻
Stained Class was my favorite Judas Priest album for many years back in the 90's, but in the past 20 years it has been Sad Wings Of Destiny. It is a MASTERPIECE!!!! Judas Priest in my opinion has many great albums like Sin After Sin, Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class, Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine, British Steel, Point Of Entry, Screaming For Vengeance, Defenders Of The Faith, Painkiller, Angel Of Retribution, Redeemer Of Souls, and Firepower. These albums to me are PHENOMENAL!! Great series!!! Looking forward to the Iron Maiden one. Hopefully sometime soon.
I bought Sad Wings in October of 1976 in St. Petersburg Florida.. I bought it only because I loved the cover never hearing of Judas Priest. Needless to say I was blown away the first time I played the album. Love it!
Great show Fellaz...I'm a year late but better late than never! So many memories, I have a few years on ya Pete and caught some of these earlier JP shows as well...From the Detroit area...I did catch that Def Leppard, Scorpions and Judas Priest 1980 down in Toledo Ohio for $6.00...My ticket stub says Heavy Metal Tuesday...What a great show! Amazing when bands used to pop into small town with a few days notice to sell shirts and make gas money...LOL...I was one of 2K in an 8K arena at that show...Diggin through your archives...Rock On!
The Definitive Version for sure. My college buddies and I had so many furious air-guitar sessions back in the day for this one that I could not possibly count them. Great times!!!
Great video again Pete JP my fav band the band that got me into METAL only seen them 2times in Australia its a long way to come once with Ripper and once with Rob enjoyed both shows keep rockin Pete and making those videos I will keep watching
I saw the Maiden /Priest in 82/83 in Philly at the Spectrum. It is STILL the best double bill I have ever seen. Both bands were firing on all cylinders .
Please get Chris on more often, I really enjoy his contributions. Very knowledgeable and interesting to boot. I like Judas Priest, always found Iron Maiden a bit cheesy really. Love the 70's records, 80's for me Screaming for Vengeance and Point of Entry are amazing. Could do without Turbo and Ram it Down but for the most part I dig em.
Hey guys great show first of all ...first time I seen the BEAST from the EAST was the unleashed in the east tour and the warm up band we're touring behind their Killers album.. little band called Iron Maiden...
Priest fans need to get the heavy metal parking lot DVD. The movie is good, but the extras are unreal. 6 hours of extra stuff. A priest vinyl collector shows off all his collectables, they show the history of the cap center and the implosion. It has other parking lot series too
I saw the show they were talking about. It was called Heavy metal wednesday here in Cleveland . It was def leppard, scorpions and Judas priest. At the music hall. 30july 1980. To this day, my favorite concert of all time. Started my love for heavy metal. But, they thought it was the Lovedrive tour for scorpions. That's incorrect. It was Animal Magnatism tour. No Michael schenker. A year earlier I saw the Lovedrive tour in 79
The triumvirate of Sin After Sin, Stained Class & Hell Bent for Leather are the Priest albums that got me hooked. And they did start headlining during the HBFL Tour. Saw them do a headline show in Vancouver at the PNE Gardens (3000 seater). Almost 40 years later, it's still in my top 5 concerts I've seen.
Hi Pete, really enjoying your work. Great Priest video. Appreciating learning about the history behind the music. Priest is one of my favorites when I discovered metal in 1981. Killing Machine was my first Priest album which did not include Green Manalishi. First heard Green Manalishi on Unleased in the East and was blown away, one of my all time favorites. Didn’t realize it was a cover, as it sounds like it could have been a Priest original. Appreciate the call out for “Starbreaker.” One of my JP favorites which always seemed to be over looked.
7:30 Dying to Meet You and Rocka Rolla are also great songs. They already had (although budding) their distinct Priest sound and style. And Sad Wings is brilliant. So original and ahead of the other hard rock bands. Really original sounding and so Judas Priest
29:00 - Unleashed in the East was originally released in Japan as Priest in the East with Obi, printed inner sleeve and a bonus 4-track 7" and IIRC there was also a version with 12"
There's live audio of Priest and Budgie performing together in February 11, 1974 (actually doing a duet together on a song called Running From My Soul). Rob had JUST joined the band the previous year and you can hear him SCREAMING on the song (not high pitched, but growls).
Great stuff. I enjoyed the Sabbath history and lately I’ve been getting into Judas, and this did not dissapoint. My favorite Judas album? Point of entry. Followed by Turbo. I might be on the minority, but Judas truly knew how to do pop metal.
Thanks for this Priest history. Very Interesting. @Pete Pardo : Killing Machines is one my Priest favorite too. It's definitely a turning point for Heavy Metal I think (production and songwise).
i come from the black country were priest sabbath diamond head ect started i saw priest many times the strangest at a youth club supporting a band called sweaty betty and i was unsure then sad wings came out the first real heavy metal album and now like you guys a lifelong fan
I saw them twice on the Defenders Of the Faith Tour: Once at Nassau Colosseum in April 1984, and the second time was at that infamous show at Madison Square Garden on June 18th, 1984. It was both amazing and surreal, and no, neither I nor my friend did any of the vandalism. On the one hand, it was kinda cool, but it of course was very wrong to do. I did keep a piece of seat cushion though for many years afterwards. 😊
You can't forget Rush's All The World's a Stage from 1976, Rainbow's Live On Stage album released in 1977 and ACDC's If You Want Blood You've Got It from 1978! All amazing live albums.
I have seen Priest seven times. My first time Iron Maiden and Girl School opened up for Priest. Queensrÿche was the opening band for Priest on a few tours and seen those two bands together three times.
First show for me was the Capital Theater in Passaic New Jersey with Crystal Ship a Doors tribute band opening. It was me as a young teenager with a couple thousand bikers and for some unknown reason, Crystal Ship fans.
Hey guys thanks for doing this !!!!!! I’m a priest die hard fan Let’s all start a dialogue on why there’s no live video footage available from the 79-80 time frame !!!!!!!
sad wings of Destiny has a very special place in my heart, it is my first Judas Priest Album, my second one was Stained Class which when I first heard it I didn't know that I was listening too, but i loved it regardless
How lucky you were and after Stained Class things went in a more modern direction that was more popular but not unique like yours. And don't forget Sin after Sin. And from Rocka Rolla, "She was a Cheeeee...tah!" Gotta crank that
The first time I recall ever hearing Priest I didn’t know it was Priest till several years later but was Take on all the world. The first time knowingly listened to Priest was over at my buddies house, smoking a lot of weed and listening to Screaming for Vengeance. My life changed forever that very moment. 🤘🏻
Yes they played Eat me alive in 2008-2009. I was at the concert they played in Bergen on that tour. The song was great live. Other highlights were Dissident aggressor, Rock hard ride free, The green Manalishi and Between the hammer and the anvil. Strangely enough they did not play Living after midnight. They were playing in a surprisingly small venue with room for only 3000 people. It was one of the best concerts I have been to.There was no opening act, just an amazing show with the best version of Judas Priest.
Judas Priest is such a good band! They deserve way more recognition than they get. They should be being invited to meet world leaders and shit. They have so many goddamn great songs! At least 15 to 20 AMAZING songs. That is not easy to do. There should really be a Judas Priest day. Or better yet just take the religious stuff out of christmas and just give that day to the Priest.
On Unleashed recordings, there exists, versions of Beyond the Realms of Death and Evil Fantasies. They were both used as B sides on 12 inches. I have them as mp3s. White Heat, Red Hot, and Take on the World were both played on shows that the album tracks were sourced from, but have never turned up. Better By You, Better Than Me is the only other song that was played on the tour
The first time I ever listened to Judas Priest was back in 1987 at barely 9 years old when MTV'S Headbanger's Ball played the live version of The Hellion/Electric Eye from the Memphis 82 show. I have been a huge massive fan ever since. Iron Maiden is my all time favorite band, but Rob Halford is my all time favorite lead singer, and KK Downing and Glenn Tipton is my favorite guitar duo ever. Black Sabbath might be the Godfathers of Heavy Metal, but in my opinion Judas Priest perfected it.
I think Dave Holland was a great drummer for the sound Priest wanted during their 80’s era. That being said, if I wanted to hear some really great drumming from him, I’d probably listen to Trapeze. Great video as always guys!!!
Sorry, I have to be that guy. According to Wikipedia, Judas Priest had a stretch of 5 out of 6 albums that went platinum, Unleashed in the East through Turbo, Point of Entry being the only one within the 6 that did not. Iron Maiden, on the other hand, had 5 consecutive platinum albums from The Number of the Beast through Somewhere in Time. Incredible accomplishments by both bands though. I love them both. Their rivalry will live on forever.
Iron Maiden has five platinum albums in the US: Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Live after Death. Priest has five platinum albums in the US: British Steel, Screaming, Defenders, Turbo, Unleashed in the East.
@@Carlos-xz3vi I don't think he was saying there was, merely confirming the number of platinum albums Maiden had in the US as the guys were discussing that and weren't sure.
Excellent show Guys Well thought out and great all round discussion.____.My Priest top 5 Albums chronologically Rating: Sad Wings of Destiny 9/10 (The Blue Print for true Heavy Metal, Island of Domination very under-rated ) Sin after Sin (Let us Pray very fast for 77 imo) 9.5/10 Killing Machine 10/10 (great variation, I can see why Kiss picked them for the Dynasty tour) Defenders of the Faith 9/10 (A master work let down by last 2 songs Heavy Duty and D.O.T.F) Painkiller 9.5/10 ( Massive punch in the face to all of us who thought that the band was washed up = Priest's Reign in Blood) Honorable mentions ---- Angel of Retribution 9/10 (love it including Lochness LOL) Nostradamus 9/10 (If you got the Patience a real grower....unfortunately not many do)
Pete - you got one thing mixed up : The show where the seats were ripped out at the Garden was oct 22 1982, not the defenders tour. I know cause I was there as well! There were also a couple of banners being burned as well. Quite the scene

Just thinking the other day how much "Some Heads Are Gonna' Roll" sounds like "Beat 'em Up" from BOC, and it turns out they were written by the same guy.
Priest were playing all the Sad Wings of Destiny songs on tour in 1975. There is plenty of footage of it on youtube, included was a non-released song called "Mother Sun".
I enjoyed this video.I got into Priest relatively early.Bought Sad Wings in 77 and followed buying each album in succesion. They did headline some shows in 78.Saw them open for and blow away UFO (with Chapman, not Schenker)in 79.Saw them headline on tour supporting Unleashed in the East and didn't know Les Binks was gone. Was expecting them to open with Exciter and obviously Dave Holland couldn't play that.Saw them 3 more times in the 80's.It's ridiculous that they were passed over for R'N'Roll Hall of Fame.Like you guys said, probably biggest selling metal band outside of Metallica and maybe Sabbath, that also influenced so many bands with their sound and look.
How is that disco????? How in the hell????? There is nothing, absolutely nothing disco about that record. “Turning circles”, “Desert plains”, “Heading out to the hoghway”, “Solar Angels”, etc....how the hell are those songs disco???? Shut up.
Great guys! Just a quick point on 'Killing Machine' name change - hardly any guns in the UK so therefore a school shooting would still have a huge national and UK cultural impact here and I wondered be surprised if a similar concern would be raised. Looking forward to viewing pt2!!!
Though I believe the same school shooting did get talked about in the UK. As it became the title to a well known song by the Boomtown Rats. "I Don't Like Mondays".
I'm on a Priest binge so this is a great time to give my Top Ten Priest songs:
1. Saints in Hell
2. Victim of Changes
3. Beyond the Realms of Desth
4. Traitor's Gate
5. Sinner
6. Hell Bent for Leather

It was both amazing and surreal, and no, neither I nor my friend did any of the vandalism. On the one hand, it was kinda cool, but it of course was very wrong to do. I did keep a piece of seat cushion though for many years afterwards. 😊
8:52 - red Light Lady and Whiskey Woman
You can't forget Rush's All The World's a Stage from 1976, Rainbow's Live On Stage album released in 1977 and ACDC's If You Want Blood You've Got It from 1978! All amazing live albums.
Nothing touches Strangers in the Night. Nothing.
For me, Sad Wings Of Destiny is probably the greatest METAL album of all time!!!
Yes i agree with you.it's classic metal.it's my memory
Album
I'll never understand why they did Epitaph but other than those few minutes of nonsense, Sad Wings is perfect top to bottom.
Hey guys thanks for doing this !!!!!!
I’m a priest die hard fan
Let’s all start a dialogue on why there’s no live video footage available from
the 79-80 time frame !!!!!!!
Used to listen to sad wings and sin after sin in high school
Great times great influential metal
sad wings of Destiny has a very special place in my heart, it is my first Judas Priest Album, my second one was Stained Class which when I first heard it I didn't know that I was listening too, but i loved it regardless
How lucky you were and after Stained Class things went in a more modern direction that was more popular but not unique like yours. And don't forget Sin after Sin. And from Rocka Rolla, "She was a Cheeeee...tah!" Gotta crank that
@@rangerrick222 I listen to all Judas Priest up until Defenders Of The Faith, it is all VERY good.
I want that retro Priest shirt!
@Flat Earth Florida Aren't you adorable!
Beyond the Realms of Death is my favorite Priest song. Great when done live.
I have Rocka Rolla With the bottle cap on vinyl from back in the day.
Me too! Love that ❤️ cover even if some did not.
Sad Wings of Destiny might have the greatest album cover of all time, certainly the best of Priest's career.
My favorite band ever love judas priest
The first time I ever listened to Judas Priest was back in 1987 at barely 9 years old when MTV'S Headbanger's Ball played the live version of The Hellion/Electric Eye from the Memphis 82 show. I have been a huge massive fan ever since. Iron Maiden is my all time favorite band, but Rob Halford is my all time favorite lead singer, and KK Downing and Glenn Tipton is my favorite guitar duo ever. Black Sabbath might be the Godfathers of Heavy Metal, but in my opinion Judas Priest perfected it.
I was there From Brazil Festival Solid Rock...Day 10/11/2018🎸😎👊
history of Alice Cooper would be kind of interesting as well. Great job guys.
Sin After Sin is my favorite Priest album. I love the cover art.
I think Dave Holland was a great drummer for the sound Priest wanted during their 80’s era. That being said, if I wanted to hear some really great drumming from him, I’d probably listen to Trapeze. Great video as always guys!!!
if Dave played like trapeze on Priest the stuff could be way better
I dunno how i missed this before(or if I'm just braindead and forgot), but this is so good.
There’s no rivalry. Without Judas there’s no Maiden. Is like saying there is a rivalry between Sabbath and Metallica. Nonsense.
@@Carlos-xz3vi I don't think he was saying there was, merely confirming the number of platinum albums Maiden had in the US as the guys were discussing that and weren't sure.
saw priest headline at Cleveland public hall in 1980. scorpions and def leppard opened
I was there,I believe the zoo by scorps was encore.rp
The mash up song is a combo of whiskey woman and red light lady
Excellent show Guys Well thought out and great all round discussion.____.My Priest top 5 Albums chronologically Rating: Sad Wings of Destiny 9/10 (The Blue Print for true Heavy Metal, Island of Domination very under-rated ) Sin after Sin (Let us Pray very fast for 77 imo) 9.5/10 Killing Machine 10/10 (great variation, I can see why Kiss picked them for the Dynasty tour) Defenders of the Faith 9/10 (A master work let down by last 2 songs Heavy Duty and D.O.T.F) Painkiller 9.5/10 ( Massive punch in the face to all of us who thought that the band was washed up = Priest's Reign in Blood)
Honorable mentions ---- Angel of Retribution 9/10 (love it including Lochness LOL) Nostradamus 9/10 (If you got the Patience a real grower....unfortunately not many do)
Pete - you got one thing mixed up : The show where the seats were ripped out at the Garden was oct 22 1982, not the defenders tour. I know cause I was there as well! There were also a couple of banners being burned as well. Quite the scene
Been a Judas Priest fan since 1981 they've been my favorite band since I was 11 ...guys great information .... Firepower ranks #4 in thier discography imo.

Ram It Down worse than Rocka Rolla!?? No fucking way dude!!
@@metalgamerk9549
Rocka Rolla is far better imo all of it I like. Ram It Down has Love Zone,I'm A Rocker,Johnny B.Goode,Love you to Death and Monsters Of Rock. 5 terrible tracks just god awful.
@@dauntingtask8399 Soo Blood Red Skies is awful? Whoa, do we have a different taste. Rocka Rolla has a few good songs on it, but not ONE is even close to metal or hard rock. It's a record to listen to if you want to fall a sleep. I mean compare it to what Black Sabbath was doing at the time..
@@metalgamerk9549
Where did I say Blood Red Skies is god aful dude? Show me.
@@metalgamerk9549
Every track on Rocka Rolla is excellent electric heavy blues, every track. Ram It Down has 5 "Ok tracks" and 5 god awful tracks...the 5 god awful tracks are Love Zone,I'm A Rocker,Johnny B.Goode,Love you to Death and Monsters Of Rock. Rocka Rolla in its entirety is far superior than the 5 ok tracks on Ram It Down.
I love the first album .
My first concert was KISS dynasty tour December 3rd, 1979. Opening act was the Rockets. I would have loved to catch Priest as the opener.

Just thinking the other day how much "Some Heads Are Gonna' Roll" sounds like "Beat 'em Up" from BOC, and it turns out they were written by the same guy.
Beat em up is CORNY and i'm a HUGE BOC fan..
Listen to BOC Cleveland 91
Painkiller was awesome Love that Album.
Painkiller is thrash. JP was NEVER and is NOT a thrash band. Sorry! Hated Painkiller
@@rangerrick222 Meh. It was better than And Justice for All
Awesome video guys
79 they only did 1 canadian show at the almocombo guys !! a buddy of mine shared a QUART with the boys !!!!
Animal Magnetism was released in March of 1980...so that would be the tour you are referring to.
Priest were playing all the Sad Wings of Destiny songs on tour in 1975. There is plenty of footage of it on youtube, included was a non-released song called "Mother Sun".
Where is the 75 tour here on You Tube?
Was at first Castle Donnington Monsters of Rock UK 1980. Rainbow,Priest,Scorpions,Saxon,April Wine,Touch,Riot.
Regarding the “clean and shiny” Point of Entry Album, I recall Halford saying that Point of Entry was Priest’s attempt at disco.
How is that disco????? How in the hell????? There is nothing, absolutely nothing disco about that record. “Turning circles”, “Desert plains”, “Heading out to the hoghway”, “Solar Angels”, etc....how the hell are those songs disco???? Shut up.
I wonder how much 'Unleashed in the East' was an attempt to recoup some of the royalty losses from the 1st two LPs.
