Pea Gravel in the bottom up to the level you choose would allow you to set the pan level as the gravel would level out easily when you have to change the angle.
Great work! I wondered if you laid the potatoes in first would that have made a difference in texture. Also, glad the chicken was not dry this time. Butter works everytime. A nice fleshy fish would be great in there I bet. I want to try this. Thanks!
Hi Donna. That is so cool. I love projects like this. Last season I sundried my tomatoes in my greenhouse and it worked a treat! As we are now heading into winter I will have to wait a wee while before I can try your cool oven! Have fun experimenting. Cheers Sarah : o )
Rainbow Gardens Haha, I was thinking of tilapia with butter/salt/lemon basil for an hour and just taking a break outside while it cooked. The worst part would be getting up to flip it half way through but I can deal with that. I'd love to try it.
It all looks good except the chicken. The first one you called dry and I would say perfect. I could not have eaten the second chicken. All just a matter of personal taste. Just discovered these videos and they are very good. Thanks for posting them.
I would like to know how warm the out side of the pot gets , I bet it would be worth putting insulation around it . I wonder how hard it will be too take her to 350 ? How large is the pot please . I have too huge ones and I am thinking about giving it a go , but I will have to plant my tomatoes some place else.😩 Since the pot I have is so huge I might try to put a pot inside a pot and pearllite in between and cement the top to seal water out to make it insulated, Being so hevy I will have to weld up a hevy duty articulated swiveling base . Then I bet I could hit 350 .🤔 I've seen these made from a styrofoam ice chest and other things, but even know the food is covered I'm kinda afraid of plastics out gassing , the terracotta seems to be more of an "organic" solution.
Thanks so much. It was good. :))) I cooked sausage in it the next day, and it actually browned. I did not expect meat to brown, but I guess because it had more fat in it.
There are smaller pressure cooker you can get take the handle off spray paint it black and you have the world's most affordable solar PRESSURE COOKER oven.
It is fire resistant to a certain point, I think close to 400°F. I am using it mostly for it's reflective quality, and not to direct heat to a certain point, like a fresnel lens or a magnifying glass, which do cause fires. Mylar is sometimes used to cook food too. If I want to use it permanently, I will upgrade the poster board to something more durable (it warps with the humidity from the cooking/steam). I would also look for a better sheet of Mylar which stays flat against the board (it will reflect better that way), confirm the thickness of the sheet and make sure it is specifically made not to shrink when exposed to a certain heat (I think some Mylar shrinks at certain temps). So far, it's for fun and I am enjoying it. :))
Donna, you are one smart lady. Great work. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
You need to add this to the outdoor cooking playlist :)
Everything cooked up beautifully, Donna! Good work!
Thank you so much. I had not eaten lunch when I edited the video and it made me sooo hungry. haha :)
@@RainbowGardens U r an incredible women, but be careful aluminium utensils are unhealthy to use .. ..get solar pots from market

Awesome update Donna have a blessing of a day
I am very thrilled. I am making a few sun ovens. I have 6 kids so I need a few lol.thank you. Love your videos.

Sounds crazy - my Aunt Lorine lives in Atlanta, GA ... your voice is exactly like hers!
Haha, yes, my accent is from Atlanta, GA. :))
Rainbow Gardens well, that's why!

Thank you so much. I've been enjoying it. :))
Love your videos! Thanks for sharing!

That looks very doable. I think I'll try it. I need a terracota pot though
I have got to eat before I watch your videos Donna. I am starving now! A few onions and mushrooms with that would be amazing I bet!
Chuck

***** That sounds great! :))
Solar oven, I wonder if I could dry Cherry Tomatoes like this? What are your thoughts! Thanks for the video
Happy Gardening
Marty Ware
I think that would be wonderful! Put a screen of some sort under it. :) Sun Dried tomatoes, yummy!
Thanks, wonderful idea and worth a try in the near future!
actuall thats a good idea for drying apples and most anything on a flat surface
You can do that. The difference, though, is to not retain the steam. Leave it so steam escapes.
I am thrilled too!
Great video 👍
YAY!! You did it!! How exciting!!!! :) Will share!!!
Thank you sooo much. Hope all is well and thanks so much for sharing.
Very nice job!!

and paint the outside black.
That did look good.

What is red tea and how do I make it ? I don't see the link .
What type of marlar did you use? How did it hold up? Please give any other suggestions you have for the shiny part other than foil.
Thanks 😊
I used Mylar food storage bags.

can you cook anything in it?
Woah, you can! So Cool!
This might be a super basic question...but how does it not burst into flames? Is mylar fire resistant?
It is fire resistant to a certain point, I think close to 400°F. I am using it mostly for it's reflective quality, and not to direct heat to a certain point, like a fresnel lens or a magnifying glass, which do cause fires. Mylar is sometimes used to cook food too. I used a wooden planter box, it is sturdier.
what meat have you cooked other than chicken and sausage. I'm thinking cooking breakfast meat and eggs would be tasty!
Hey, that is an idea, I could cook breakfast for lunch! That would be good. :) Maybe I will try fried eggs next, sunny side up of course! lol
Rainbow Gardens I love all eggs for any meal. my step-mother (from Tenn) would often cook scrambled eggs with cheese ... yummy
S Brown I agree. My father would cook breakfast for dinner sometimes.
How cool is that? ...er...how hot is that? LOL..wtg Donna!
Haha, thanks so much. :))
possibly could have left your meat in the marinade bag for majority of cooking. and opened it toward the end.
who needs fire, cook from sun, lol
Not a good idea to cook with food against aluminum!
