    Of the watches that I filmed this day, the Day-Date 40 seen here was my favorite. The warm sunburst-grained olive green dial and stealthy white gold make this one of my top-three favorite current-production Rolex models alongside Milgauss Z-Blue and PT Daytona. Really, with a three-day power reserve, the colossal heft of Rolex's solid link bracelet, COSC+ precision, and 100-meter water resistance, this is pretty close to being the perfect watch.
    Best,
    Tim

    This is such an elegant, versatile watch. Not sure if I'd go for this or one of the ice-blue platinum Day-Dates, in the unlikely event I ever have the money for either one, but both are spectacular.

    Thanks for the video
    Do you know whether the metal strap is also made from Platinum? Thanks

    I know I'm late but, what is your opinion on the dial color? I have had this watch for almost 3 months now and honestly I am starting to think that the dial is slightly dull. It is a very subtle green and doesn't pop as much.

      Is it that dull? I thought on a daily sight it will stand out perfectly

      I’m debating between WG blue or olive and have heard olive dial is a little dull or flat as compared to blue. In another word, blue pops more. Is that true?

    • @blazedone2583
      @blazedone2583 3 роки тому +1

      @@vaz582 It definitely doesn't pop. I wouldn't know about the blue, but the green is vibrant only in perfect lighting conditions.
      I'm not saying it's not nice, it's just what I would consider a dark dial.
      Take this video for example. The lighting is certainly not bad, and yet the dial is somewhat dark. That's just how it is in your everyday environment.

      I have the same dilemma between WG blue or olive green and have been looking at photos and videos of wrist shot from different angles as I don’t have an opportunity to see it in person before ordering.
      I agree with the OP that green is a little flat or dull and doesn’t pop as much unless in perfect lighting. Although blue dial is similar to the DJ41, the dial appears to pops more when outside and have more energy I guess. Therefore, I’ve selected the blue and placed the order three weeks ago.

      You and me both! If I owned this watch, I'd never take it off. Besides the lack of lume on the dial (forgivable, given the gorgeous all-gold hands, indices), there's no reason this couldn't be a man's only watch for all occasions. And for all of its conservative tendencies, Rolex does seem to have an adventurous streak where dial colors are concerned - and thank goodness for that!
      Best,
      Tim

    Tim, always appreciate your reviews. How do you think this green dial would work with a blue shirt and navy jacket? This is my typical look at work, and I was thinking about the blue dial day-date, but the green is truly beautiful and much more unique.

    Have you ever seen a DD40 olive green on platinum? I guess you can order it from AD, but it would be one of the rarest version, of course before gems stone DDs, of this watch.

    • @gmansplit
      @gmansplit 5 років тому +1

      I don't think any such watch exists. I do believe that platinum day dates are only made with ice blue dials. The only way you could get platinum DD with an olive dial would be to swap the dial over from one of these white gold watches.

    • @Utoob8

      @@gmansplit That is simply not true. Not all platinum DD come with ice blue dials, but all ice blue dials come on platinum watches.

    Im really contemplating on this watch. Do you think it is still this ostentatious statement piece? I want to wear this unpretentiously casual but Im not sure if thats possible. However, I can see why this was a big swinging d**k watch 40 years ago. However, in times of white ceramic skeletonized Royal Oaks and Rose gold Yachmaster 2s, is this watch really still a shower or has it become more civilized?
