Didn't understand this scene when I was younger, thought it was random and awkward, now that I am older I see that Harry wanted to take away her sadness for just one second. The scene captures the emotional angst Hermione was feeling, the tortured pasts, of everything they've suffered, and Harry's inner wish to live in a world free from all the evil. This moment frozen in time would be one last chance at their 'schoolyard' friendship before the inevitable peril they knew was coming. Harry's love for her, platonic or romantic, is captured as stronger than any magic Voldemort could have.
@@danemania001 she sacrificed herself and family to save whole world....! You really think the right thing to do is stay and live with her family for happily ever after while Voldemort killing innocent people and destroying the world, and probably her and her family soon?
My heart kinda sank when the music stopped bc I knew they would go back to their misery. But this one moment of happiness and hope is so very significant
It's sad that at the end it still wasn't over. Like in the first movie everything was so colorful but even after the war was over and their kids were going to school everything was grey and little depressing . That broke my heart...
This scene exactly relates to the quote: "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light" -Albus Dumbledore Edit: Thanks for the likes
At THAT moment . But for me, Harry is always the right choice of Hermione. And even J.K Rowling admitted she pick the "Harry/Hermione" ship than "Ron/Hermione
The fact that Harry loved hermione so much as a sister that he put everything aside for a second to make her smile again. U can see in hermione’s face just for a second all the misery disappear. It was the saddest scene in cinematic history when the song ended and everything came rushing back to them in seconds and back to misery
Just when we thought Harry & Hermione's friendship couldn't get any cuter, we get this adorable moment. These 2 are like brother & sister. Hermione will have Harry to keep her company for infinity & beyond.
Um, at the end of that dance Harry leans in slightly. He wanted to kiss her. Hermione didn't respond because it didn't follow the books. For the movie Harry should have wound up with Hermione Sue but in the books that would have made no sense.
That moment when Harry takes the Horcrux off her neck and sets it aside is so great. Literally setting their burdens aside to have one more happy moment.
ok but i feel like not everyone understands how beautiful this scene actually is. they're literally kids and they were basically robbed of their childhood. pretty much everything got taken from them. they didn't get to live a normal teenage life and this song is basically just them letting go for a few moments to enjoy what they felt like was going to be one of the last days of their life. the way they were just able to find a tiny bit of light in such a dark and terrifying situation is amazing. so many people are mad they didn't end up together but i think the fact that their relationship was purely platonic makes this scene even more beautiful. and they couldn't have picked a better song to dance to. this scene is immaculate in every way
I know! So many people disregard it as a scene that hinted at harry and hermione being together to throw us off of ron and hermione, but only a few people will watch and recognise how beautiful it is for them to find solace in a random sing playing on the radio and dancing to it even in such a dark and miserable time. I guess I see myself being able to find happiness in a situation like this by doing the same thing, while others don’t relate to it. We all find our way to cope with hard times and to some this scene seems misplaced or out of the blue when it deliberately contrasts such darkness with escapism and distraction, from the song growing louder in the background to the hand held camera shooting. Such a beautiful scene
Yeah like in the books the couples we got are perfect they have great chemistry but on screen harry and Hermione have way better chemistry but their friendship honestly means more for this scene
once you’ve fell in love with Harry Potter movies there is no going back you’ll be watching the for ages then showing them to your future children to love
That's true I've known about Harry Potter since I was at 4th Grade but I don't know where to watch or read it but I only became a Potterhead since 2 months ago and I know im not welcome to the Superior Potterhead but I'm glad I became one
Jesren Joseph Anino OMG ME TOO i never knew where to see the movies or read the books . i still don’t know about the books but i’ve watched the movies ! and i’m just obsessed with everything
I’m gonna be honest, I just recently finished a Harry Potter binge as I’ve wanted something to watch for awhile (and I had only seen bits and pieces of some on tv when I was really REALLY young) and I must say I am kinda sad I watched them all in a binge rather then spacing them out. Not saying I didn’t enjoy them at all, I’m saying I wish I had time to indulge in them a bit more
I always believed that Harry and Hermione were soulmates. Not in the romantic way, but just in the way that they will always be there for each other. They were meant to be, best friends or girlfriend and boyfriend I don't know, but I know they were meant to be. They were both extremely lucky to have each other throughout the series, and I can only hope for a guy best friend like this one day.
@@ava165 I can see that, but I feel like there's really no way to perfectly describe it. They have a very unique and special relationship and it's really interesting!
Anika Bhatt soulmates don’t have to be romantic. i think they had a sibling and soulmate type of connection. and yes they really were meant to be together whether it was through friendship or romance. they wouldn’t have made it as far as they did if they didn’t have each other
this scene is hauntingly beautiful, the shady lights, the whole atmosphere is so grim , yet harry and Hermione found a moment of happiness, exceedingly beautiful.
I’ve suddenly realised why I love this scene so much. I don’t know if anyone here is familiar with Studio Ghibli. Its founder, Hayao Miyazaki, often portrays the main characters doing small, mundane things like turning off the lights or riding the train in silence. He calls these moments ‘Ma’, and describes Ma as the moment between two claps, a moment of silence, a moment to breathe so the viewer isn’t overwhelmed by too much action happening at once. This scene feels just like that. A moment to breathe among the chaos, a little stop in the story so both we and the characters can rest for a few minutes. 💖
Yeah I always thought this scene butchered the pacing of this movie but now that I’m older I realize that this movie needed this scene, or something like it, for us to catch out breaths. Especially knowing what’s coming
This scene hurt me so bad. Harry was going through so much but removed the horcrux immediately then decided to dance with hermione to make her feel better :((( they deserved so much better
@@anonymousgaslighter345 Grumpy person... enjoy the books, enjoy the movies. Enjoy instead of judging others for liking what they want. Wonderful scene and translation of a beautiful friendship.
Abby Caldwell But again she did. I’ve did some research and it’s pretty surprising. When ever Harry is around, Ginny’s look directly at him in all the times when he’s there except the scene where she’s kissing Dean.
It's a problem with these films, honestly. Harry and Hermione had more chemistry with each other than they did with their actual love interests. Hell, Harry had better chemistry with Luna than Ginny.
Commenting on your year old comment because it’s so much yes. Ginny and Harry have no chemistry. All their scenes together are bland and tasteless. Ginny and Harry = hot ham water
@@isatonalightbulb In the books they had chemistry, the movies did an awful job. When I read the books I was fine with it but in the movies no relationships would work for harry seeing none got developed well . Hermione and Ron had chemistry since year 3
Yes we can. And the lyrics are perfect as well: "Hey little Train we're jumping on, the Train that goes to the Kingdom" I know, it's about the Holocaust, but we are free to interpret it so I think it fits perfect to this world and this scene.
@@suranjanad3861 yeah afterall all healthiest relationships are just friendships aren't they? No physical abuse, no verbal abuse, just pure love is what harry and hermione have for each other. I don't care if the love is platonic or romantic but it's obvious that they are the soulmates. They have the strongest bond besides harry and sirius.
@@mrstark1241 Yes, they are definitely soulmates! Some people see them as romantic ones and others see them as platonic ones (which is what I do), but they are truly soulmates.
I'm sorry. I get that they're supposed to be friends. but, considering Ginny got hardly any developing in the movies, and that Bonnie and Daniel had zero chemistry, it's understandable why people think Harry and Hermione worked better. Daniel and Emma had tremendous chemistry together. They looked better as a couple and came across that way.
@Doctor Tokdoly then you're just biased, actually read it through on their development and see their relationship expand book by book. I'm starting to believe you haven't even read it, because Harry and hermione don't always get along, Harry gets quite annoyed with her a lot. Ron and Hermione always bicker but that was their development
This scene is so important. Hermione always takes care of Harry, she always hugs him when something happens and worry about him a lot. And in this scene Harry takes the first step, which shows that he also cares about her and wants to see her happy. He was never very affectionate but here he shows how much he cares about this friendship.
the acting is so good in this scene because you can see that they are happy but there is so much pain behind it and it’s like they are just clinging onto hope it makes me cry every time
It’s kinda strange how Harry, the boy who has watched everyone who ever cared for him like anyone else would have die, and he can still find that bit of joy to cheer up a friend.... I’m not crying you are
@@krisynthiagomez5883 I wish this scene had been in the book! Maybe it was and the narrative just didn't mention it--they were together for months alone, after all. Ron didn't come back until after Christmas and left sometime in the mid-fall. It's my head-canon that this actually happened and no one can convince me otherwise.
This scene, Malfoy Manor, Dobby's death, The Tale of the three Brothers and Voldemort stealing the elder wand from Dumbledore's tomb were the best scenes in the movie even though Dobby's was very sad. Edit: And how could I forget the best one of all: Umbitch getting stunned
Oh absolutely. Would've been better if they kissed. Even though this wasn't in the book, the writers should've made them kiss. Not even a romantic kiss, just a kiss but nope. Or even Harry kissing her in the forehead or something
This is my favorite moment in the whole movie series. It's obviously not in the book, it doesn't add anything to the plot, for all intents and purposes it should've been cut from the film. But it silently takes a breather from the action to show the growth of the characters, their relationship to each other, and their sacrifice of innocence, and it's a beautiful moment that justifies the decision to split the book adaptation into two movies, to allow character development before the big battle.
In my opinion this is one of the best movie scenes ever created. It's so simple yet it holds so many emotions. It's so tender and soft and you can really see their bond and how much they care for eachother. Not just in the movie but in real life. There's practically no acting, just pure love for one another showing through.
i really love this scene because harry try to comfort hermoine when she's at the lowest moment. that's literally show how pure their friendship was 😭❤️
@@tobias064 I get that, but is it really necessary to comment negatively anything about Harry and Hermione that is even remotely suggesting some romance? Like the guy just said that Harry comforted Hermione and he liked their friendship and that @Dude Man for some reason felt the need to tell that it never happened in the books and ruined the momment
And the way they look at each other. This is why I couldn't believe Ginny wound up with Harry. Everything would have been just right if Hermione had been his wife...
When they tucked their heads into each other's shoulders I almost cried. I know she went with Ron, but this isn't just friendship intimacy. Like Ron she is a soul mate. More than Ron to Harry. She stuck with Harry throughout the books, when Ron abandoned him twice. This shows it. She never left him, she loved Harry. I don't know if it was sexual but she did love him. He did too. He immediately removed the Hocrux.
One of the best thing I love the entire series and books is their friendship... Most pure and beautiful friendship. When I watch their dance I can't see any romantic relationship there. Just friendship. They both were there for each other always. I always wanted a friend like Harry or Hermione.
@@pahgm6222 Exactly. It disgusts me when people say they have a sibling relationship (in the movies) when there are moments like these 0:30 . Like bruh do u see the spark of romance in her eyes?
Same the emotions in this scene is insane I can feel every bit of pain they felt (the characters) and the fact they knew everything that was going to happen and how she’s risking her life for him is just .wow.
same I cry because I see how far they have come from being complete strangers to solemates (not romantic way) and that even though they are in tough times they try bring the positive
I love this scene because it strips away all of the layers. There's no magic, no dark lord, no fantasy at all. Just two scared children trying to find some comfort.
When I was younger, I always felt as if this scene was awkward or a bit strange. Now that I’ve rewatched the movies, and understand them, this scene is honestly tragic. It shows that after all the heartbreak, trauma, and challenges that the CHILDREN were put through, they seek hope and happiness in this moment. All Harry wants to do is take away the pain and anger Hermione feels. And he gets an unforgettable moment with his best friend, before they go up against pure evil. Romantic or not, this scene was so touching, and heartbreaking, a love for one another no monster could ever take away.
I think they played the relationship Harry and heroine have pretty accurately. I think the movies just lack the context of the details of other relationships so it makes it seem different
The problem is that in the movies, Harry's relationships aren't well constructed. Harry has no real moment with Ginny that makes you feel like: "oh yeah, they should be together". At least in the movies, I saw more connection with Hermione. Even Luna has more dialogue with Harry than Ginny (Please, I'm talking just about the movies because a movie should be able to make sense by it self, even if it's an adaptation)
@@hugocastilla3102 Exactly man....there's no moment I felt like Harry nd Ginny are a brilliant couple....I felt like they performed arrange marriage not love
I disagree with the "brother and sister" vibe or even the " 100% couple vibe" it's like friends who COULD be a couple but instead are best friends for life
That's the way it was written, too. Intentionally ambiguous. That's one thing I think the movies did better than the books, and it's a conscious choice that Steve Kloves made. These two could easily be best friends for life, or they could easily be husband and wife. They had the sort of bond that could've gone either way and lasted. The movies went out of their way multiple times to show this...and that ambiguity made them better IMO.
They are the perfect example of bestfriends Both of them trying to comfort eachother other and just sucking in it 🤣🤣🤣 They are definitely more then some friend to eachother but not in romantic way both of them deeply care about eachother I also see why some people see them as brother and sister For me they are bestfriends for life and Hermione choosing her bestfriend over boyfriend is just bestfriend code 101
It's crazy because (Books aside) this scene was almost the start of a Harry Hermione relationship. In an interview with Dan and Emma, they talked about this scene. (Two separate interviews i think) They said that in this moment, they (the characters) almost kissed. They had been lonely, on the road, and utterly hopeless for so long that they were craving any sort of intimacy. And in this moment they almost gave into it. But only when Hermione thought of Ron did she stop herself. Its a true shame this scene wasn't in the books. I feel it gives true tension and depth to the situation they were finding themselves in. It's a good look into what the human desire really is. Love through and through.
One of the most beautiful scenes of the entire franchise. Undoubtedly the most welcomed aspect of the franchise that wasn't in the books. I still get goosebumps till this day watching this scene. immense.
Dude he was trying to help her because she was sad because Ron left but whatever I guess music = unrealistic and please don’t comment me at all by saying that doesn’t make sense and don’t comment to me in general bu bye
A beautiful moment for them to remember that they're just kids and don't have to worry about saving the wizarding world for 2 mins. Always loved this scene.
This scene still makes me cry. Just remembering being those little kids loving magic and life. They've reached this point where they're just desperately trying to hold onto each other, reminding them to be strong even if it's just for the other. Their friendship has been through so much. This was probably their lowest point and they're merely just kids still. This song will forever hit me with a wave of nostalgia. Remembering their childhood like it was mine and feeling the pain and burden they're feeling at this moment.
I think Harry and Hermione had a deep love for each other. Hermione has consistently been the one Harry could count on, ever since he and Ron saved her from the troll. She would do anything for him and vise versa. This beautiful scene has so many layers and emotions in it. In this scene, I felt like they were two best friends comforting each other and trying to have a little fun in the midst of the tragedy surrounding them. Harry recognizes that she is sacrificing so much for him, and he wants to take away her pain. They also seem to be trying to capture that free-spirit that they used to feel. And the dance feels very free-styled, like they aren’t worried about the steps and are just having fun for a brief moment in time. And at the end, it was like they both needed to feel each other there. It was a beautiful scene with multiple layers. They most definitely loved each other, whether it was romantic or not.
By far the best scene in the entire franchise. To me, this scene really captured how much your friends can be worth to you without it meaning that you necessarily have a relationship.
We should appreciate this scene for what it is: a rest. Harry and Hermione are caught in the eye of the storm, they have no idea if their friends are alive, if they'll survive or if Ron is dead. But despite having done the adult's work for so long, they are still just kids. This scene shows it so well. They should be Listening to music, they should be dancing and laughing but this is the only moment in the movie in which they can.
God, I love this scene. It takes me back. Or rather, roots me in the moment. They're just kids. They have the fate of the entire country, if not the world, on their shoulders. They have essentially no clue how to find the Horcruxes. Ron's gone. And yet, Harry is wise enough to know that they have each other, and that moment.
They love each other. Like a brother loves a sister. They're soulmates. But soulmates come in all shapes and sizes. A person could be your soulmate in the form of a best friend. And thats what I see here. Their Platonism makes me smile every time because it shows that love without romantic involvement is just as emotionally powerful as any love. Hands down the best scene in all 8 movies
I still don't understand what the hell Hermione sees in Ron. Even on a romantic basis it doesn't make any sense. The connection she has to Harry is much stronger, platonism be damned
@@ryanelliott3018 I read the books, and there is still 0 chemistry. Ron picked on her for a lot of years, tell me where did they remotely show maturity with one another without the constant cruel namecalling and bickering they had?
@@Daughter-of-Palestine Cruel name calling, seriously? Have you ever called someone an idiot when they act idiotic but arent actually an idiot? It's the same bloody thing when they call each other names. The only time Ron genuinely insulted Hermione is in the first book when she said "no wonder she has no friends" he hasn't genuinely insulted her since. They praise each other more than they name call or bicker. Their bickering is never heated and they clearly like doing it with each other. I always thought that they're bickering was their form of flirting with each other.
What I see here is not a potential couple, but two people who are such good friends that they are practically brother and sister. Harry and Hermione think alike - her brains and rationality, compliment Harry's talent and raw instinct, and she understands him in a way that Ron simply can't - emotionally speaking anyway. Here, Harry is trying to cheer up his best friend, after she is heartbroken when Ron leaves and missing him deeply. In fact, they both miss him and are worried about them, and so together they attempt to comfort each other, as good friend ought to. So please, Harry and Hermione will only ever be best friends, not lovers, and I think that's the way it should be.
"Harry is trying to cheer up his best friend, after she is heartbroken when Ron leaves and missing him deeply" yeah, i see that too but that doesnt mean that i dont see a potential couple
I feel like Harry was having some sort of romantic feelings for Hermione in the Deathly Hallows. It's like he saw her in a new light. He realized she gave up everything to help him, even her own family. The way he compliments her when she figures out the places to hide and about the horcruxes, doesn't get mad at her for the broken wand but instead takes the locket from her, how he lets her cut his hair, mourns his parents next to her, and then the dance scene. It all felt very loving, almost romantic. The way he looks at her after the dance felt like he wanted to kiss her, but knowing she had feelings for Ron he thought better of it. I know it can also be interpreted as a very strong friendship, because that is the way the books portrayed it, and it makes sense. It was then and there, during the war and their toughest times, Harry truly saw Hermione as more than a friend. He saw her as his family. Still, I feel like in the films it felt more romantic rather than friendly.
Exactly, Harry probably did build up a romantic feeling in that film, but also after Ron left, I feel like Hermione did too, but she felt guilty as she knew Ron liked her. Honestly though, I just don't understand how Ron and Hermione argue so much and yet somehow becomes lovers, like it genuinely makes no sense when u think about it.
Prabashini A H G Mudiyanselage it really doesn’t , but the books portray their relationship much better. Harry and Hermione both had their respective relationships with other people, and in this journey he’s stranded with Hermione. They get much closer not as lovers , but as family that can only rely on each other in such a dreary situation.
@@fiong2947 I respect your opinion, but I believe Ron and Hermione belonged together in the books, but in the movies, Harry and Hermione belonged together.
Unlike most here, I'm not a huge HP fan. That said, this movie was fantastic and this scene was the best moment from it. It's the moment you suddenly and silently realize these kids have grown up before your eyes, and there's something meta about it because that's true of the actors, too. And regarding the whole Ron/Hermione/Harry thing, it's a moot point who Hermione "should" have ended up with (or whether she had to end up with either Ron or Harry at all, for that matter). However, this scene in and of itself does prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that there was chemistry there between Harry and Hermione. IMHO, the fact that it never quite plays out beyond this scene is just one of those missed opportunities that makes life so poignant and bittersweet. Laying the scene over a song about missed opportunities and regrets at the end of life just makes this scene that much more perfect.
Since you're not a big HP fan, it means you have an unbiased opinion and that's honestly refreshing. People are so caught up on the fact that Ron and Hermione are the "opposites attract" couple and are "canon" that they ignore what Harry and Hermione could've and maybe should've been. They had chemistry in both the books and (esepcially) the movies and it infuriates me when people insist that they wouldn't work
great and well-written comment. You sum up my thoughts about how crazy and surreal it is to see the kids having grown up to this point as well. Just comparing Philosopher's Stone and the Deathly Hallows films in tone and mood is just such a mindtrip, but it demonstrates an effective scaling of maturity to show this journey from the start of simple, childlike wonder to the end of that childhood with a dark and brooding close.
Look I have close friend like Hermione( attractive and intelligent) in my circle and I have no feelings for her, we are really really close and everyone thinks we are in a relationship but we are not. That's the whole point of this scene. 2 friends can just dance and be in a loving relationship without the romantic part.
GOOD LORD the sound mixing in this scene tells a story all by itself. Notice how at the start the song is muted and far-away, almost as if the locket is blocking out everything except the endless cycle of Hermione's dark thoughts, blocking her from living in the moment, from experiencing even a little joy. Then when Harry takes the horcrux off of her, still the music doesn't immediately come blasting through. It fades in, slowly, like a sunrise, as she starts coming back from the dark place in her mind, as she slowly joins in with Harry's silly, awkward dance. And even then the music never reaches full volume. There's an almost fragile quality to it. Even as we're in this moment, we know it's going to end. And it ends, and everything is quiet again - but an almost relieved kind of quiet. The dark thoughts will return, but for now they're far away. A momentary respite, before it comes time to pick the burden up once more. And that's exactly what this scene is - a momentary respite, for us as well as the characters.
Whenever I was younger I would get mad because I thought this meant they should be together. But now grown up I realize that they are just two best friends trying to find a happy thing to do in a very dark time. Never fails to make me cry
This scene was very touching. It showed Harry trying to cheer Hermione up after Ron had left. It's nice of him to help her. This scene makes me smile so much!
Yeah it just sucks that she couldn't help him out when dobby was dying. I'm just kidding I don't hold a grudge on hermione for that as she had just come out of a traumatic moment
Say what you want about David Yates, but this scene was a statement that he can be a great director when it comes to such intimate and bittersweet moments of life. Loved this scene since the first time I watched it as a kid and now I can appreciate it even more.
He did a terrible job with this movie, I’m sorry to say. This scene was not only inaccurate to the book, but the whole film also portrays Hermione and Harry as the perfect couple, making Hermione rest her head on H’s shoulder, constantly sharing intimate feelings, and even going as far as DANCING, which they never did the book and would never do realistically. But I respect your opinion
Same!! They’re both highly wise and intelligent, unfailingly kind, always fight for what’s right; they’re both loving, good friends, and aren’t afraid to butt heads when boys act stupid! I totally see Lily in Hermione and James in Harry. What also gets me: Ginny reminds me of James. She’s confident, funny, witty, a kickass Quidditch player (James also played Chaser and was a reserve Seeker), loyal, brave, and had quite the obsession with someone of Evans blood at a young age 😂
Yeah it's crazy growing up with these movies cause the the actors grow up with you then the movies themselves are growing up cause they get more mature each movie. Also props to the actors cause it's hard to find great kid actors and have them grow up to be great adult actors. Usually kid actors as they grow older the acting gets worse but the acting just got better in each movie. I hope to see them back in 10 more years and have them reprise their roles.
That person who picked exactly this song for this scene is an ultimate genius. It's so fitting - it's hard to explain why but tears every single time we watching it. I bet Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are really proud and touched ☺️
@@mthermon7439 Bruh, so you're saying that friends or siblings do this type of dance with each other? 😂 When I first saw this, I thought they were gonna kiss, cause they had a moment at the end.
@Prabashini A H G Mudiyanselage well that was dumb because hermione would never do that book or movie. Also their were scenes in this movie that make us think Ron is jealous of Harry and hermione which wasn’t in the book.
A lot of people seem to view this scene as being romantic, but I always imagined it as more hopeful and self-assuring than anything else. Nick Cave's lyrics tell of the tragedy of children having to grow up and lose the innocence they once had on account of all the evils in the world. The entire Harry Potter series is about a group of children forced to grow up because of the horrific circumstances thrusted upon them. It's actually kind of brilliant of David Yates to pick this song for the two to dance to. This scene was not made to promote a Harry/Hermione ship or even shed light on a very dark film. It was made to provide the characters with just one moment of escapism from the terrors plaguing their world and regress into the childhood innocence of dancing to pretty music with friends. It's my favorite moment in all the films.
Exactly. This shows that a guy and a girl can be just friends. I really love this scene. (You can ship them all you want) but the fact it that they never dated and don't end up together. This is just Harry trying to lighten the mood and cheer her up, like a good friend should.
i like the way the music volume gets louder bc i imagine that is kinda how the actually characters wouldve felt. like the more they dsnced the more everything else got blocked out and then it fades and sk does the happiness and the moment
Asturianix98 well, although it’s a very “romantic scene” , the actors portray VERY well how that’s not nearly the focus or point of it . During this part of the story the “heroes” are screwed, they cannot destroy a single horcrux and neither find more at the time, not to mention both(especially Hermione) are sad and almost depressed with Ron leaving them . So even though it’s a cheerful moment , and both have good chemestry, you can see all Harry is trying to do is cheer up his Friend and he understands her pain, and Hermione (look at the way she looks at him, away and down at the end) accepts the comfort, but ultimately, she can’t simply “forget” or pretend things aren’t horrible , she looks sad and is probably thinking about Ron and how she wished he was there to be with them..to be with her . TL;DR: The actors portrait well a scene that even though has the “style” of a romantic one , it’s a sad and depressing scene that says a lot about the current hard times they are facing . Just two close friends grieving together and trying not to give in to sadness
Ah yes they would Sirius would be like his father with flying, James would be like Hermione Bookwormism and Lily would be the smart one so all of three of them will be The next golden Trio
This scene will forever make me emotional. And this song, actually it was this movie that got me into nick caves music. Just a beautiful song, and a beautiful scene between friends.
I’ll never forget when this scene started on opening night the entire theater took a collective breath because we all thought Harry was going to kiss her
Idk. Harry and hermione never looked at each other that way. They're just great friends. It was only Ron and hermione that would flirt or get jealous of one another. They were awkward and nervous around each other which made it cute and what made it work between Ron and her. Harry only focused on other girls lol.
This scene is one of my favourites out of the whole franchise, maybe even my favourite. I come back every once in a while and it always has me sobbing. Back in the Prisoner of Azkaban Dumbledore said “happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light” and that exactly what the pair did. It’s so sweet that Harry wanted to make Hermione happy for at least a couple of minutes but as the music starts to fade the reality of what’s ahead hits them both and it’s heart wrenching. It’s such a special scene and you don’t really realise the meaning of it until you start to get older.
This is one of the most touching scenes in the whole series in my opinion as it is filled with both sadness and hope
+mariedancelove Agreed. (I nearly cried XD)
True. This is one of the scene that made me cry
I cry EVERY time I see this scene
To be fair, 90% of that feeling is because it's a Nick Cave song playing. You could play him over transformers and get a similar effect.
I ship harry and Hermione
Didn't understand this scene when I was younger, thought it was random and awkward, now that I am older I see that Harry wanted to take away her sadness for just one second. The scene captures the emotional angst Hermione was feeling, the tortured pasts, of everything they've suffered, and Harry's inner wish to live in a world free from all the evil. This moment frozen in time would be one last chance at their 'schoolyard' friendship before the inevitable peril they knew was coming. Harry's love for her, platonic or romantic, is captured as stronger than any magic Voldemort could have.
This should have more likes

The fact that Harry loved hermione so much as a sister that he put everything aside for a second to make her smile again. U can see in hermione’s face just for a second all the misery disappear. It was the saddest scene in cinematic history when the song ended and everything came rushing back to them in seconds and back to misery

@@anonymousgaslighter345 just to break the immersion. The directors did a really great job of brining a romance into Harry and Hermione.
Um, at the end of that dance Harry leans in slightly. He wanted to kiss her. Hermione didn't respond because it didn't follow the books. For the movie Harry should have wound up with Hermione Sue but in the books that would have made no sense.

ok but i feel like not everyone understands how beautiful this scene actually is. they're literally kids and they were basically robbed of their childhood. pretty much everything got taken from them. they didn't get to live a normal teenage life and this song is basically just them letting go for a few moments to enjoy what they felt like was going to be one of the last days of their life. the way they were just able to find a tiny bit of light in such a dark and terrifying situation is amazing. so many people are mad they didn't end up together but i think the fact that their relationship was purely platonic makes this scene even more beautiful. and they couldn't have picked a better song to dance to. this scene is immaculate in every way

So true.

I always believed that Harry and Hermione were soulmates. Not in the romantic way, but just in the way that they will always be there for each other. They were meant to be, best friends or girlfriend and boyfriend I don't know, but I know they were meant to be. this scene is hauntingly beautiful, the shady lights, the whole atmosphere is so grim , yet harry and Hermione found a moment of happiness, exceedingly beautiful.
Yes it is hauntingly beautiful, I like your comment very much
I’ve suddenly realised why I love this scene so much.

It’s so weird. In the books, Ron and Hermione clearly belong together but in the movies, Harry and Hermione seem to have way more chemistry.
I think they played the relationship Harry and heroine have pretty accurately. I think the movies just lack the context of the details of other relationships so it makes it seem different
Harry x Hermione even in the books.
The problem is that in the movies, Harry's relationships aren't well constructed. Harry has no real moment with Ginny that makes you feel like: "oh yeah, they should be together". At least in the movies, I saw more connection with Hermione. Even Luna has more dialogue with Harry than Ginny

It's crazy because (Books aside) this scene was almost the start of a Harry Hermione relationship.
In an interview with Dan and Emma, they talked about this scene. (Two separate interviews i think)
They said that in this moment, they (the characters) almost kissed. They had been lonely, on the road, and utterly hopeless for so long that they were craving any sort of intimacy. And in this moment they almost gave into it. But only when Hermione thought of Ron did she stop herself.

@@Onigirli same!!
@@Onigirli clearly you haven't read the books

@@groot8950 True, in general I feel like Harry and Hermione are a much better match, especially in the movies.
I don't know why but I always cry when this scene comes up.. it's just so simple and beautiful
Me too
What I see here is not a potential couple, but two people who are such good friends that they are practically brother and sister.
👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👋
i am so with you!

Daniel Culyer I'm sorry but i disagree it should have been harry and hermonine at the end.
"Harry is trying to cheer up his best friend, after she is heartbroken when Ron leaves and missing him deeply" yeah, i see that too but that doesnt mean that i dont see a potential couple
Let’s be honest, we all want someone to dance with us like this
everyone wants this friendship too
And yet I’ll never have it
I feel like Harry was having some sort of romantic feelings for Hermione in the Deathly Hallows.

And that's exactly what this scene is - a momentary respite, for us as well as the characters.
that was beautiful 😭
This scene warms my heart bc of how touching it is. They aren’t lovers, just friends finding happiness in the darkest of times.
I cant speak for the books, but Harry and Hermione felt the most like a couple in these movies

Say what you want about David Yates, but this scene was a statement that he can be a great director when it comes to such intimate and bittersweet moments of life. Loved this scene since the first time I watched it as a kid and now I can appreciate it even more.
The thing I want to say about David Yates is that he did a great job on his Harry Potter movies
ABSOLUTELY AMEN
This is definitely my favourite moment in all the movies I just love it
*All I see is James and Lily dancing*
(Im a Snape fan but unfortunately It changes nothing)
No. Hermione is not like her at all. Just the fact that she's muggleborn
OMGG. I LOVE JILY SOOO MUCHH. THIS is my favorite ship. They are the best for me personally
@All in one Adda Hermione is kind of like her she is muggle born and intelligent
U mean lily and severus??
It makes me so happy to remember when it was their first year. They were so happy. And then the movies just got darker and darker.

When I first saw this, I thought they were gonna kiss, cause they had a moment at the end.
Austin Faulds
Yeah even though Harry is 17 he’s never had a regular childhood he had to grow up so fast
Exactly
I don't think anyone saw this scene as remotely romantic. Shippers just want it to be, that's all
Exactly. This shows that a guy and a girl can be just friends. I really love this scene. (You can ship them all you want) but the fact it that they never dated and don't end up together. This is just Harry trying to lighten the mood and cheer her up, like a good friend should.
Btw can u tell me the name of this song??
Not a single word spoken and yet so much emotion conveyed.
i like the way the music volume gets louder bc i imagine that is kinda how the actually characters wouldve felt. like the more they dsnced the more everything else got blocked out and then it fades and sk does the happiness and the moment
The way they look each other tells us everything about their feelings...
Tell us your analysis.
Victor Laye strictly platonic
Yeah, they're like brother and sister :D
