Nothing in life compares to being up close next to a humpback whale. I had the privilege in the 80s as a child and will never forget. Amazing.

I agree. I call Orcas the same thing.

I prefer humpbacks as orcas kill baby humpbacks.Mind, not as bad as what humans do.I love whales and dolphins, though.

Joanne, you're right. But not all ecotypes of Orcas go for Whales. Transients do. Resident Orcas, and Northern Atlantic Orcas go after different fish only.

They may not be able to learn English, but they are far from dumb. They communicate through movement and a series of clicks and howls, vibrations.

Whales are so nice to us, and we repay them by dumping disgusting shit into the ocean. Poor whales. :(

Dirk York, Are you aware that eating meat, or any other animal product, is completely unnecessary? People in western countries eat animal products only for taste and convenience, and to think that animals are mutilated, tortured and slaughtered for that (70 billion every year), is pretty fucked up. So if you respect life, please consider going vegan. It's the best choice anyone can make in their lifetime. For the animals, for the planet, for humanity and for yourself.

sky blue true that! I didn't really know human can live without all animal products
      but now i'm vegan :D !

We could learn from whales on how to live at peace and be gentle. I had the privilege of being up close to humpback whales and it's an experience I will never forget. You instinctively know there is nothing to fear. They are so friendly!

I've been surf fishing for Bluefish & Striped Bass off of Riis park and the Rockway's NYC for 33 years I seen Porpoises, Pilot Whales & Dolphin's Seals in close. Only within the past 12 years I've been sighting Humpback & Finback Whales less than a city block from the shore line from where I'm standing. it's a real treat to see these whales that travel all around the worlds ocean's surfacing in front of me feeding on big schools of Menhaden or Herring. When I sight one it makes me feel like a little kid again seeing something for the first time and when you see them swimming in numbers they put on a great show. On land or on the sea we're all part of one thing, Mother Earth. Cool Posting.

Its their size that makes them seem intimidating but they're really just so gentle. Im not gonna lie, if I ever get the chance to see a whale so close like that, i would be nervous and scared but then I'd have to tell myself that they won't hurt you intentionally. Whales are very peaceful, unless disturbed of course. They're still an animal of course but very gentle.

Of course they know you're there. That happens when you combine a big brain with sensory sonar. They know where you are how big you are and most likely what species you are. " It's those funny looking air breathers who seem to like us."

I remember cbs airing this. Lucky lady to have that experience. Taijii japan dolphins need your help. Theyre currently being slaughtered. Baby dolphin, still alive, dumped overboard to die. Please go online, google and sign petitions to help stop this. Google "The Cove" if you do not know about whats going on. Your petition helps.

Kayaks do NOT belong in the ocean. What would happen if one came up underneath you with its mouth wide open and you were swallowed alive. Not very smart.
