Real Line Lore
Of course every nation has a population line. You can take any arbitrary area and draw a line that divides a certain percentage of the population from the rest. Whether or not that line has any geopolitical meaning is what RealLifeLore is good at describing, though.
As you rightly said, the population is very densely concentrated in the plains and the basins of rivers of north India. Rivers have been a crucial part of the Indian civilization. The Indus valley culture, the Vedic society, and other cultures flourished because of the rivers of Indian subcontinent. Indian religious texts give a lot of importance to rivers. Rivers are considered sacred. Like a god or a goddess. People still bathe in the Ganges (even when the water quality isn't the best) because they see it as a purifying ritual to wash away their sins.
A bit of a correction: The Deccan Plateau has large areas of black soil, resulting in the largest area under cotton cultivation in the world and make India one of the top cotton producers. Also, sugarcane is grown in South India as much as in the north.
Islamic culture & islamic mentality (religion)will finish Pakistan.

Yes, the glaciers help maintain river flow during India's dry season, but over the whole year, the VAST majority of water contributed to India's rivers comes from RAIN falling on the southern slopes of the Himalayas and their foothills, and on the Indo-Gangetic plain itself.
As a non-Indian, I always think the Brahmaputra river deserves more attention. It's not as famous as Nile, Amazon, or Mississippi, but Brahmaputra's trail is simply equally impressive, originating from high plateau of Tibet and flowing through vast portion of Tibet as well, carving through Himalayas to create some of the deepest valleys around the world, and when the river actually reaches the lowland of India, the sheer scale of the river becomes simply mighty. I haven't been to India to see the river myself, but just the photos and footage on the Internet already amaze me.
Brahmaputra is the widest river in the world containing several large river islands. At some places it literally looks like a sea.
Some parts its width ranges between 15-20 km, and it is easily visible from space and it is the deepest river in india , and when ganga and brahmaputra join to form meghna in bangladesh its became the worlds 3 rd biggest river in terms of water discharge per second after amazon and congo river....
Its basically a compressed sea, from when Bengal & the North Indian plain was a big lake of sea water.
China is exploiting that river to control water over India.
As a result its floods have also been devastating
This video fully explains why Bangladesh has a higher population than Russia as well, it's just the fact that throughout the human history this region has been so fertile that people in general never had to go through the similar hardship faced by people living in colder or dryer regions
and if certain indian states were to be independent like west bengal or uttar pradesh they'd have similar to even higher population then Bangladesh
If west bengal and Bangladesh were a single country or a state within India, then it would have 25-26 crore people. That's more than UP in a less area.
It was the British hatred towards India that they encouraged partation on religious lines. If that would have not happened then our population would have been 1.8 Billion now. British simply divided the best agricultural and economic regions of India. AND WE ARE STILL PAYING FOR THAT.
Yeah, Uttar Pradesh as a separate country would be the 5th most populous country after India,China,USA, and Indonesia lmao

Though politics also matter. Ukraine is one of the most fertile places in the world and yet between 1991 and 2014 it's population decreased from 54 million to 42 million.
Ironically enough it's actually the poverty of Bangladesh. The higher the standards of living the lower the birthrate tends to be. The lowest birthrates in the world are found in South-Korea with Japan and western Europe not far behind. Europe has had a negative population growth for a full century and the only reason it's still around is due to a continuous immigration. If that immigration were to stop they would go downhill very fast.

My hometown was on the edge of Western Ghats and believe me, the amount of rainfall most places in India receive is something most Westerners cannot comprehend.. Hello Tsss , how was your day today
I am from Chhattisgarh- a tiny anamoly between the north and south divide. You might have noticed in the precipitation map that a deep blue stretch was seen in the middle of the country. That's the Mahanadi Basin. The name "Mahanadi" literally translates to "The Great River". Mahanadi is one of the biggest rivers of the country and the river provides continuous water supply to Chhattisgarh forming an arch and thus a wonderful river basin. Chhatiisgarh on a political map looks like a sea horse, but on a topographical map looks like a sink, or a bowl. Its surrounded by hills- a segment of Aravalli mountain ranges and various other hills that trap the monsoon winds forming almost a lake like catchment. This generates a suitable enviornment if paddy plantation which is why CG is also a leading producer of rice. The population of Chhattisgarh is quite low compared to other states, however its still more than the entire population of Australia.

It is the source to Indus, Ganges, Bramaputra, Irrawady, Mekong, Huang He and Yangtze. It provides fresh water to most of Asia and more than 50% of humanity. And if it weren't for these rivers, perhaps none of the Asian civilizations would have started. Crazy to think about.

One thing which wasn't discussed in this video are that most of those areas of India with the highest fertility rates also are the poorest states in India and lag behind when it comes to education, GDP, and access to birth control. More developed parts tend to have lower fertility rates for the same reason we see it in highly industrialized countries and cities.
No relationship between access to birth control and being poor. Every urban city has govt control, hence birth control is forced upon by health dept workers. Villages are less governed by govt, hence they don't need it.
Well haryana's GDP per capita higher than any southern and western state.
But you wanted to bring this point when it's not related to video.
Till 1990 this area was still most populated.
BTW no part is most developed.
For millennia North was the center of invasion and conflicts coming from the west. Most of that area was neglected by the British and mostly used as farmland while they industrialized the south to process the produce for trade. Post independence these poor states had the most voters so became the center of all the bad politics in the country. Now that constant neglect over centuries has become ingrained in the psyche of the people and social backwardness has become the normal here.

It’s not accurate to say that the mountains block the movement of air. The air does flow over the mountains, but nearly all the moisture in the air precipitates out before reaching the summit due to adiabatic cooling. The process happens in reverse as the air descends the other side of the mountain, where the air warms as air pressure increases, resulting in a humid air mass that can hold almost all the remaining moisture in the air without precipitating.

I live in Kerala in the narrow strip of land between the Arabian Sea and Western Ghats. On some clear days if we stand near the coast, we can see the sea on one side and the mountains on the other.
Western Ghats are UNESCO World Heritage Site with some unique flora and fauna. Some amazing hill stations are located in these mountains in all states through which it passes.
Didn't know thanks
Pls Brother add in ur comment to correct this map, He at least should know that this isn't our real map...it's include POK and Akshaichin ....Ur comment is highlighted that's why I am telling u pls 🙏🙏🙏
Also Western Ghats is one among the 8 hottest biodiversity hotspots in the world.
Western Ghats is not just limited to Kerala.
Ohh you must be from north kerala then….let me guess …near Kannur or perhaps mangalore side
This guy has put more effort in explaining India's geography than any other Indian youtuber. I tip my hat to you Sir and may you be blessed with millions of views.
Are you also from India?
Funfact: you didn't even search this topic of Indian youtubers 😂
Sir he is as much educated as you are....about indian geography and borders....shown a wrong map of india
He showed wrong India map in thumbnail and video😡😡😡😡😡 . I say you report it for misinformation
We feel that because our geography classes were never serious.
Fascinating, thank you 🙏🏾 👍🏾 🤎
I must note that moist air can climb over mountains, but the air will then warm up and the saturation point will become higher so that the air is able to hold on the rain
I'm presently in my Village ( in Uttar Pradesh)
This year wheat produce has been very high. They forgot to keep all the producer inside and at night stray cattles visited and ate some of that ,. But since the produce is good no one cares . Everyone is in good mood.
Even the large farms here will seem to be small if you compare them to industrial scale farms of usa or Canada.
The American system has ruined the agricultural sector. Corporations are trying to price out family farms which I find so despicable; soon we'll all be forced to be retail drones in the "service industry".
Great to here
I live in Delhi…have my ancestral village in western Uttar Pradesh where ppl have acres of farms in there and it is said to be so densely populated on paper but still i saw ppl living in spacious houses with their own set of farmland pieces through different villages…god knows how far ppl live from each other in lesser densed countries/areas!
@@akshaysharma8940 I am from Kanyakumari and my grandparents owned farmland. In less dense areas, you have to normally walk at least 5 mins to reach your neighbours house. And a house is in the middle of the whole farm. Though in some areas, they have a system of houses in the middle of the village and farmland surrounding the whole village.
@@SolomonSunder cool
that region has always been populous because of the Ganga plain since ancient times and may be remain that way in the future too
If you compare the quality of life however you will find a completely different picture. It’s called a slums for a reason. This is more prevalent in UP and Bihar. However, the some of the best places to live in is below that line.
Mm
The guy finished all my geography chapters in less than 20 minutes🎉
Excellent points that are well presented. This gives much-needed perspective on India and it’s future development. I did not know about several of these issues. Great job by the folks behind this quality channel!
Hello James, how was your day today
I love the work you put into your videos and the way they're formatted always make them such a breeze to watch!
In India, the Northern Plains are fed by glacier fed rivers, hence the area is densely populated.
But actually The Southern city Banglore receives enormous rainfall thought out the year, like literally its so wet here being in the Deccan plateau
EXCELLENT job. This video was stuffed with information, and as a thirty-year veteran of teaching such information, I was happy to learn some things myself. 🥇
Bro, good and high quality video, I now know more geography, history than my school ever taught me. Thank you for your great content!
👍
I am from India and I can fully agree with this 🇮🇳🇮🇳
You have explained it to perfection brother.
Yeah, I live in Uttar Pradesh and it is already pretty damn populated... Adding another millions looks impossible. 😅
Uttar Pradesh I think will likely add another 30-40 more million people. To be honest its not that populated. Its just that UP is still not urbanised. Just 10 megacities in UP can inhabit most of the population, leaving the rest of the state empty.
@@PK-tt5kk True.
Nothing is impossible
Only cities are crowded leave the cities its bilkul khali like just farms and villages.
Well, it is pretty crowded here in the west side cities. Don't know outside of NCR though.
As far as the population explosion is concerned, the damage was done 30-40 years ago when the fertility was over 3 for most of india, as shown in the video the fertility rate is either at 2 or even below that, its fallen so rapidly that some researches even fear that India might grow old before it can actually become rich so you can't even introduce aggressive population control policies like China did. Unfortunately, the 2 states that stick out like a sore thumb in almost every statistic about India and its states, the same states also contribute to nearly 30% of india's population.
The biggest fear which people ignore is corruption. japan and China were at far worse position than India 50 years back. But look where they have reached now. Indians are still crying and blame the British
poorer areas generally tend to have higher fertility rates, vice versa
From another pov, UP and Bihar will rule India in the future 😂 because they'd have a much younger population base than other states.
damage ?? population is not the problem, its how the society manages it, i.e. good food, education & health. All places on earth had a population explosion in the 20th century, its just that India(especially the north) had a bigger base.
Also population explosion is not because suddenly everyone started to have more babies it is because most babies born STOPPED DYING.
@@mobob7989 that's my point, they are the poorest areas in India and continue to hold a significant chunk of India's population.
I belong to bihar. It's true during agrigarian economy this region was prosperous. And population density was high. But after development of medical sciences, whole country population growed exponentially, and because of gangetic planes having higher base for exponential growth here population growed insanely. And nowadays this area just send man power to whole country.
Manpower? More like low class labourers
The sheer amount of people makes the prospect of living in India seem utterly hellish, especially if you're claustrophobic
Great informative video, years of learning just sumed up in a short video which is explained well. We being Indian got to learn easily about the subject in a video.
Great Job👍
The effect of the wester ghats is similar to the southern alps in new zealand: very wet, lush west coast, flat, dry plains from the mountains to the east coast (where I live, in Canterbury!)
Yes, Kerala (where I live) is the wet side of Western ghats while the other side is arid.
Hello Sophia, how was your day today
Plains formed by Ganga Yamuna, their tributaries give priority to people to settle and Brahmaputra river also accomdate people.
Also literacy rate is less in northern part of India, which also has impact on population in those areas.
As an Indian American who just went to visit the Himalayas, I greatly appreciated and truly understood this video so much more. It's so beautiful and lush green up North with all those hills and rivers. Down South where I'm from it's still surprisingly green and theres a lot of water coming in, especially into my dads state of Andhra Pradesh, but in Tamil Nadu its hella dry in places. The river going through my hometown is more often bone dry than not.
It's weird to hear the word "dry" associated with Tamil Nadu, when Chennai gets sometimes enormous monsoon level rainfall. Then again, my family is from there and we haven't really explored anywhere else in TN.
The reverse monsoon season! Due to cyclones during the time of November and December Tamilnadu's coast recieve a lot of rainfall!
@@nahor88 rains in Chennai do not flow inwards into TN and feed the dry lands
All rain water funnels back to Ocean
Ya tamilnadu is mostly depend on water of kaveri, and water of dams from kerala like iduki, shiruvani etc
We don't fetch water from Idukki, that's Mullaiperiyar. Siruvani is only for Covai city's consumption.
One other reason for low agriculture activity in Southern India can be understood by the mineral distribution chart and type of activity are involved in. Southern India is much rich in natural resources and minerals, and people are less involved in agriculture sector. Also, Southern India has larger non-veg eating population also, they are involved in fishing. This further reduces the dependence on agriculture sector.
The thing is other way round. Traditionally South Indians couldn't do as much farming as the people in North that is why they had to find alternative ways of feeding their people and earning livelihood like fisheries, more non veg, and other non agricultural occupations.
@@harshulgupta4604nope,south indian love to eat meat,,who wants to eat the tasteless vegetables yuck, even on festivals we sacrifice animals in temples for god and eat including beef in tamilnadu,if you don’t believe you can come and see for yourself, you’ll find beef in every corner of the street

Great video! Just an observation is that this video indicates the population of Brazil as being between 215 and 220 million people, which was the forecast based on the 2010 census. But a new census was released a few weeks ago confirming that the Brazilian population is "only" of 203 million people currently, showing a huge slowdown with the lowest growth ever recorded. According to experts, this indicates that the country's population should start to decline from 2030 onwards.
Excellent presentation!!!
Extremely well researched. As a long time subscriber, can say this is one of the best of your channel.
I studied all this in geography in middle school here.
Still fascinated by this
I want to take a pee in the ganges, would you recommend?
Unfortunately the education system does not make this information nearly as clear nor interesting. It somehow manages to kill any interest that students might have.
@@srinidhisrinivas9434 I dont agree though, it's the students who don't have an appetite to learn about Indian geography or history...
I had an additional Atlas book for geography where we friends used to memorise each country flag name and capital and play games by asking each other whose flag it is with the name hidden with hand or show the world map with no labels and ask the country, ocean name. Got interested in history because of Akbar movie, serial, Mangal Pandey movie, Gandhiji and was curious as to how and why did that tiny island nation, Britain conquerored our humongous India.
Most importantly the Indian students are so shy, timid and are afraid to ask the teacher inside the class. So they stay silent the whole class and listen mindlessly but few clever kids would always ask the teacher...
Do you know know oldest Nepal area is called Himvat-khanda whis inside east Arunachal to west Hindukush & soth ganga river to noth brmhaputra. that's oldest human living area where you count population more than south of ganga river
I am really happy living in the south of the line specifically between the Arabian sea and the western ghats of Karnataka. We have a diverse , rich culture here with fertile lands which can grow rice , coconut, Sugar cane , all types of lentils , expensive spices and many more. We also have ancient temples and buzzling commericals hubs. People here live a very Peaceful life and full of prosperity.
