A little note: The Wind Dukes of Aaqa, who forge the rod, are served by a large portion of the Aarakocra; and seeking the pieces has been a bit of a calling for them. So, if you want a character strongly tied into this adventure, maybe at least one member of the party could be an Aarakocra in service of the Wind Dukes?
Wasn't The Rod of Seven parts reassembled during The Age of Worms to defeat Kyuss? If so that happened after Miska was defeated. So how did we skip that?
same but i wish they'd explain the rod a little more, personally. I wanna know What does it look like(in original canon), is it more of a Staff being made of 7 entire parts? Also something like what can it do?? It seals the badguy? It's just a maguffin for "collect the 5 gems" or something along those lines? I'm thinking perhaps they are over editing these interviews
"The Rod functions as a +5/+5 quarterstaff with the bane (Outsiders, chaotic) and Axiomatic properties on both ends. The wielder of the Rod of Seven Parts can use it to cast TRUE RESURRECTION, but using this power causes the Rod to shatter, its pieces scattering once more across the worlds and planes."
I am eager to get my hands on this. I am wondering how/if they made a MacGuffin quest based campaign for so high level characters without being boring and repetitive
Wait, you guys got rid of the war of law and chaos? You made it a war of good and evil instead? >_> Maybe my opinion will change once the book comes out but I don’t like that at all right now. I was really excited to see it be a law and chaos thing.
@@LMVStudios That's a war between law and chaos, sure, but it's not the only one. The Wind Dukes are agents of law, their enemy is the obyrith known as the Queen of Chaos, and the artifact they created to seal away her champion/prince of demons Miska is called the Rod of Law. I feel like they couldn't have been more direct about what their ideological conflict was

If they wanted a staff or rod to seal away a godlike being or a deity, the Scepter of Savras is literally right there. Even better, nobody knows exactly where it is, and it could deal with Azuth, Savras, and the city of Myth Drannor; all places and things we haven't seen and adventured to yet in 5e! Funny how the Rod of Seven Parts in its lore NEVER had any association with Vecna yet the designers decide they want to shoe-horn it to be involved now? Smacks of just throwing anything at Vecna these days. I blame Stranger Things for that travesty.
It doesn't sound like the lore of the rod itself has been altered, though the war between the Wind Dukes and the Queen of Chaos has been re-framed as a war between good and evil rather than law and chaos. Hell, Miska gets mentioned by name in this video. Presumably the Vecna in this adventure wants to gather the rod to release the old wolf spider, which is plenty of motivation for any sane adventurer to want to stop him
It's a standard Macguffin scavenger hunt and the DnD concept of the Multiverse has been a thing since the 80s. Is it taking advantage of tbe Multiverse craze of the 2010s? Yes but to call it a ripoff of the MCU is disingenuous.
@@Hyaskus Actually, the MCU is based on the Marvel Universe from the comics. The Infinity Stones first appeared, as a full set, in 1977; the Rod of Seven Parts didn't become a thing in D&D until 1992. Still, I agree that it's not really a copying much. The Dragon Balls and the Chaos Emeralds are similar.
@@videogollumer The Rod of Seven Parts is not from the 90s. It was in the 1e DMG back in 1979. It's in the Artifacts and Relics section and straddles pages 160 & 161
@@videogollumer I didn't imply that the rod predated the infinity gems, I was just correcting your timeline. 1e was actually in development in 77, so it's actually possible that Gygax or someone close to him was reading that storyline as he was working on the Rod. Of course the point is moot, because both of them are obviously based on an older and much more powerful set of artifact pieces scattered across the known universe: the 11 Herbs and Spices

'keistered', but whatever. heh, but.
I already want to run this for two groups at the same time, in competition to collect all seven first.
Thanks for the invite! When do we start?
Wasn't The Rod of Seven parts reassembled during The Age of Worms to defeat Kyuss? If so that happened after Miska was defeated. So how did we skip that?
Given the fact that Tasha shows up as an earlier version of herself the likely answer is it's throughout different times in the multiverse
Multiversal Shenanigans. Cosmic Timey Thingamijigs.
The rod splits and scatters every time it fulfills its purpose.
It was used to help beat Kyuss and then broke again.
@@chrisleitzel2659 right but that was on Greyhawk, and the players did not have to planar hop to collect the parts.
In some stories the rod was created by the Wind Dukes of Aaqa, in other stories it was forged by Moradin and Bahamut with help of Imix's Wife.
I can't wait to get ahold of this adventure.
Stoked for this campaign
I love these Lore-bites

I'll be playing a thief rogue archeologist trying to retrieve the rod parts! Just gotta figure out how to build it with a whip!
No!!! God, please! No!!!
the rod belongs in a museum!
3 level dip into college of whispers bard for psychic blades would be my suggestion. Or 2 lvl dip into fighter for action surge
Why did it have to be Yuan-ti??
Whips are finesse weapons, so a one level dip in ranger, fighter, etc.gets you proficiency. Take a couple of levels to get other benefits.
*pulls out old AD&D DMG*...

Great to see Chris & Todd again 😄 I have missed their presences on my screen!
Do you think they'll release a model of the Rod of Seven parts or an STL? I'd love to have it as a prop!

No way I just watched a 3 minute video from the creators of this game and they can’t even mention what the complete rod even does. Ridiculous
I mean they have to keep some parts out of the vids so you can read it in the book or find out in game what it does.
It's called marketing and a sales funnel. Want to know more...
