I went with the Vcyclenut tune and love how the tune handles the entry into a corner with a little bit a fuel so there is no hard on/off the gas feeling. The bike pulls well all the way up to redline now. I have done a track day on mine and I have had a track R1a few years back (it was a 2016). I can say the ZX4RR is an absolute blast. Way more fun on the small, tight local tracks up here in New England.
There is so much choice now, one has to get what fits you, what works for your lifestyle and what gets you excited. I am in the fortunate position where I can add a bike to my large garage space every year. Since my divorce in 2022 I wanted to get back to doing things that I enjoyed as a kid. At 48 years old I had not been on bikes for over 20 years. I am a stocky 5ft 9 180 lb who loves working out. I got hold of a MT-07 to test for a week, it punchy but I hated the handling, it was not good enough so I understand you experiance with the MT-09. I was working in London at the time so picked up a cheap and easy to commute on 2018 Ninja 400 KRT to return to riding on. What a great little machine, especially on narrow slippery UK roads. Did a 2000 mile tour of Scotland on it, so capable. Then early 2023 I moved over to the States and picked up a 2022 60th Anniversary Edition R7. Another twin, but where the 400 was easy going fun, the Yamaha is like sculple.. and it begs to be pushed hard and is crazy good in the mountain twisties. It is an extremely capable bike without being too crazy and super confidence inspiring. I live near the Appalachians so its perfect for a day out mountain carving. For spring 2024 I bought a rebuilt 2008 Triumph Tiger 1050 and used it ride 6500miles along the i40 and route 66 from the East Coast North Carolina to West Coast California and back. It cemented the idea that a Triumph Triple should always have a spot in my garage. So tor 2025, in the USA I have a Yamaha twin, I have a a Triumph Triple.... So I figure I will add a Kawasaki Four pot next. Right now the choice is between the Zxr-4rr and Z900 RS. I think a 40th Anniversary Zxr-4rr will make a great alternative toy to the grunty 60th Anniversary R7 and they will look great next to each other in my garage.
I ended up with the RS660 because I got one for $8,044. But if I didn’t find that deal the ZX4RR was very high on my list. Horsepower isn’t everything. A bike needs to make you feel a certain way otherwise you may as well take the bus.
To each his own! Glad you are happy! Unfortunately, the front fork no compression or rebound settings is a must change! That cost a pretty penny! Otherwise, a great 400cc. Personally I ride a 2022 GSXR 750Z. The true unicorn! All mods are complete except front fork still to be re-sprung with K tech spring kit and a quick shifter. Everything else is complete!
Asian YTubers seem to compare this Kawasaki to the Kove 450rr and the Cfmoto 500SR. Its exciting to see the sub-600cc inline 4s making a comeback even if we only get the Kawasaki here.
Agreed, the market is flooded with twins and the fact that Kawasaki is bold enough to make small cc 4-banger alone is worth supporting. Yes there is even the zx25r in Asian markets, but let’s stick with what’s available in NA. I tried the rs660, beautiful looking but really felt that it lacked character, especially in the sound department (stock exhaust).
Not sure on Honda prices but 650L is $13k KRT and my 40th zx4rr $15k. One person I know paid $14500. (Australian dollar). If you are legal to ride then I'd say you will enjoy the zx4rr SO MUCH MORE. I have not ridden cbr650 but I believe it won't rev to the moon like this Kawasaki
@@jamesgeorgevellavella1961 if Dustin is the US like I am, the MSRP for a zx4rr 40th anniversary is literally a couple more hundred dollars than a cbr650r(not the supersport cbr600r). It basically highlights the only issue with the zx4rr in the US, the price is tough to justify. Also the cf moto 675(3 cylinder) is coming soon and starts at about $8000 undercutting both the zx4rr and cbr650r by about $2000

I just got the 40th zx14r. My background has always been "sport touring " but I was not expecting such absolute power and low end torque. I saw a comment drive slow bikes fast and not fast bikes slow. I just thought that was funny. It reminds me some of my time in the Kansai area of Japan ripping around on a Kwaka ZZR400 in the 1990s. Not much happened below 10K RPM which simply encourages exercising the wrist. Of course the 4RR is generations newer in tech. This bike begs for California type twisties.
This bike is like the import 400 bikes back in the 80s horsepower isnt the key here its fun because where can u do and use the power of bigger cc bikes , in the 80s the yammaha rds which only had 40hp and a top speed of 100mph and they was fun low down around town . The modern 400 has all the tec of the bigger bike and u can do some distant on it , but it all depends on what u want to do on it. Bigger bike are better touring its all down to personal like. Im in the uk and I have a fz6 but i have found its not as fun as the smaller cc bike ive had before. Awsome video 👍
ZX-6R does not have down quckshifter with autoblipper because it has a cable throttle. On ZX-4RR you have electric throttle it can open by itself for blipping
I love the retro paint scheme. I’ve always watched your channel, but this bike gets me excited to see content. I would love to get one, but I’m too old and fat now lol I agree. I love the online 4s and you don’t need anything bigger cause those are stupid fast now.
I guess it's funner to Rev out a smaller bike. When I had a Ninja 2011 ZX6R as a first super sport, you tend to take it easy. This bike looks like a great tool to learn limits and grow. Plenty of motorcycle.
Im planning on getting this for my first bike because i believe its one where i wouldnt want to upgrade super fast and I would enjoy it for a while I am not sure if this is the best idea but ive been looking at this one forever so I hope im able to get it and have a ton of fun!
55 horsepower is a good amount that allows you to ring out your bike without a ticket and keep up with traffic without an issue. My SCR950 has about that much power and is a really enjoyable ride. It has short gearing and is fun to work the gearbox. I also have the added joy of a bike that scrape pegs easily. Riding a slow bike fast for me means leaving trails of sparks and wide smiles.
100% the engine sells this bike, its also well equiped and rather comfy for a sport bike. i love mine. bad value, maybe but if value is the main concern you get a ninja 500.
I dont think you mentioned the cbr650r? Did it cross your mind at all? Im currently on the first bike, a z400, and its great for everything i do. Looking at bikes for the future im also considering the zx4rr or the cbr650r. The quickshifter on the 4rr looks really nice but the 650r comes with the extra power from the factory. Gotta love the 4 banger sound!
This bike looks super cool, and fun to ride, but I just can't justify paying over 10k for a 400cc bike. I have a gen 3 mt09, and absolutely love it. In my opinion, it's the best street bike. Enough power to really have fun with, but not too much to where I can't use most of it on the street. I love the cp3 engine, it sounds amazing and has a fuck ton of torque.
ZX4RR is such an awesome bike. I am a total simp for the inline 4 scream and you can rev the t*** out of it without loosing your license. I had a blast test riding it, but I am so sad that it doesn´t have cruise control... My neck is too messed up to be able to ride it longer than an hour without a lot of pain.
yeah revving those 600s out will get your license in a lot of trouble fast....hell I have my CB650R going 85 in 2nd gear...and that's 2000rpm below the redline.
I had the honor of riding all 4 of the 2024 anniversary models. My current bike is a modded 140 rwhp K7 GSXR750. All the other manufacturers stopped making sport 750's because Suzuki dominated that class and then some. The fun factor is always #1 when choosing a motorcycle. The 500 comes in the cheapest at $6500. It was actually decent compared to the older 500 twins and if you are a beginner definitely a nice package for the price. The 400 is really nice to look at but very underwhelming with the hp restrictions. When compared to the 636 you are going to spend more to mod it to be what the other countries get stock. You are better off buying the 636. The 636 in my opinion won out of the 4, best bang for the buck, very fun and usable. The 1000 model.......damn, very, very nice bike. At that price point you can get a low mileage used V4 Panigale which has about 10 more very's in my very nice description of the 10r. After my shopping I think I will buy my buddy's flawless 2006 R1 50th anniversary for $8k with 5k miles. That bike comes with Ohlins fully adjustable suspension and Marchesini wheels out of the factory. There is very fine line between bang for the buck and the fun factor. Shop well my brothers. If Suzuki offered an inline 4 GSXR400r I am sure it would be on my radar but after riding the USA zx4rr anniversary it is not cost effective making it a money pit. That takes the fun factor out for me.
Well done bro ❤ from Australia. The looks of your bike are spectacular. I really hope you are living your dreams and stay safe whilst enjoying that beautiful girl
For your Safety, you should be riding in position 3 which is close to the dotted lines on a 2 lane road or any road for that matter. When just commuting
I'm in my 40s this is my 1st bike the main reason why I got this it's for my son he's 14 in two years he can get his permit and I can get a bigger bike last on but I do love how it sits so my next bike might be a h2
That's the problem with the CBR650R. Honda were the first to civilize the inline 4 engine, they could see the writing on the wall, but it was too little too late. The parallel twins took over and the CBR ain't making any sense. During daily riding it's plain boring, it's engine is nothing special, the R7 walks all over it, providing oooomph any time, anywhere, and with a nice soundtrack to match and the looks too. But if you rev it it is sensational, except you're doing 120 mph before you know it, not really a safe and acceptable way of having fun and enjoying the beauty that the engine is. Too much ccs still. The zx4rr downsizes the inline 4 making it now useable, meaning you can enjoy it without going crazy. It almost makes sense. Let's appreciate having all these different options available to us. Still gonna go with the 2025 R3, you give me power and I don't trust myself holding back 24/7, even at 50. Life experience didn't calm me down, it did teach me to be smart by being preemptive over wishful thinking I can discipline myself. Ride safe.
I don't know how true but here in Thailand I was told there's no more of these 400s in stock and that they're going to be 500cc soon. yeah 4-cylinder 500 CC
The 500sr is coming out, there's also the kove 450 but ofc japanese bikes will last decades, not so sure about italians and chinese, though cf moto has turned out pretty reliable. Way cheaper than the zx tho, more value.
Australia i paid $10300 plus delivery being interstate purchase 500 40th. $15k Aud for zx4rr 40th anniversary and $18k Aud zx6r 40th anniversary. Some people in comments saying $15kUSD can't be correct can it? I believe it's Canadian or similar
Nice sounding pipe! How many lbs. did you lose? Cool livery. There's sooo many low milage bikes for CHEEP that you could have a bike for every day of the week. ENJOY
I didn't weigh the stock can. But I'd say the bike lost about 7lbs just from the Coffman exhaust tip. Another 2-3 lbs from removing the passenger pegs.
I bought same one not realising I can't ride legally for 3 years (full licence after 3nths but restricted still for 3 years). Luckily I have 40th anniversary 500's (stickers and plate swaps 🤔🤫😂🤣😘). Stay safe boys and girls and live your dreams the second you get the chance
The seat height on the zx4rr is okay for you? I'm 1,82m and have extra long legs and I don't know how my knee angle will effect the comfort on longer rides. Maybe an aftermarket seat with 2-3cm of added seathight is an option.
There's now competition. The CFmoto 500 Voom looks to have the zx4rr right in its sights. The only difference I can see so far is that it is a cable actuated throttle not fly by wire so no ride modes.
Obviously you have not owned a Chinese bike for long. Cfmoto can continue to dream on. No hope you will find cfmoto with 100000 on the clock lol. I've done the😮Chinese bike thing a few times and not one lived past 30000km
@jamesgeorgevellavella1961 100k on the odometer is very high for a bike even a Japanese one. CFmoto has only been making sport bikes since 2023. So you might be thinking of those Chinese bike in a box things which yeah those are total crap at best, death traps at worst. But CFmoto has been making quality ATVs and side by sides for like a decade or more. They are partnered with KTM and I believe recently Kawasaki and Yamaha as well to make engines and parts for them. The new Aprillia rs457 is made entirely in India. So if you have a problem with a brand just because it's made in China I hate to break it to you but there aren't many supply chains left that aren't totally dependent on china. So the same would also apply to the big 4. Companies don't have things manufactured in China just because they are cheap but also they have the infrastructure and expertise to provide a good service. I love Italian bikes as much as the next guy but let's not pretend it's only China that has occasional quality control issues.
I just purchased 2024 zx4rr waiting delivery yoshimura exhaust and tuned cant wait im in say way feeling I could of had a bigger bike this ticked all the boxes
I thought my Yoshimura AT2 was loud, but that skinny pipe must be louder. That's the only thing I don't like about it, it sounds great but that raw volume makes me scared I'm gonna get pulled over every time because it sounds like I'm going 120 when I'm climbing to 50

Have the same bike, same colorway. I love wringing it out and not doing mach 3.
I love the colours. I'm happy to hear another person loving their 40th anniversary zx4rr 💯👍 From Australia
Sold. Getting one!! Thanks and great video
It's not the quickest, but it's way cool - the price is a bit steep though. Nice ride.
not a fan of the original colour way but congrats bro
I understand completely what you are saying. I went from a Hayabusa to a Kawasaki Z125 pro and I am having a blast on my commuter minibike lol
I ended up with the RS660 because I got one for $8,044. But if I didn’t find that deal the ZX4RR was very high on my list. Horsepower isn’t everything. A bike needs to make you feel a certain way otherwise you may as well take the bus.
Does the front fairing give adequate wind protection?
To each his own! Glad you are happy! Unfortunately, the front fork no compression or rebound settings is a must change! That cost a pretty penny! Otherwise, a great 400cc. Personally I ride a 2022 GSXR 750Z. The true unicorn! All mods are complete except front fork still to be re-sprung with K tech spring kit and a quick shifter. Everything else is complete!
Your whole evaluation is spot on…….
The Kawasaki ZX4 is around the same price of a Honda CBR 650R. I would be happy with either one. Seems like the ZX4 has more character to it.
No its not
@@jamesgeorgevellavella1961 if Dustin is the US like I am, the MSRP for a zx4rr 40th anniversary is literally a couple more hundred dollars than a cbr650r(not the supersport cbr600r). It basically highlights the only issue with the zx4rr in the US, the price is tough to justify. Also the cf moto 675(3 cylinder) is coming soon and starts at about $8000 undercutting both the zx4rr and cbr650r by about $2000
@@Westside_Hippiethat would make it harder for some people to decide however in my case I bought x5 40th bikes only due to the colours being 90’s teen seeing zx7r (made me feel better and younger) x3 500 zx4rr zx6r all 40th anniversary and wife is now licenced and claimed a 500 lol (gives me an excuse to buy more 😂).
Love the bike, love your content! Please make 4k videos.
4k is coming next video
Yep. That color is awesome. ✅💚Looooove it!
I just got the 40th zx14r. My background has always been "sport touring " but I was not expecting such absolute power and low end torque. I saw a comment drive slow bikes fast and not fast bikes slow. I just thought that was funny. My slow is the 400s fast lol great choice on that bike man it's all about what you want and what makes you happy and I would ride with all bike types
🙌 I need the 12 oz steak with all the fixings!!!! 😂 AWESOME I really appreciate your feedback, definitely an amazing bike. I had a 1300, 3 1000s, and a 600! I recently purchased the 40th and this bike is by far the most enjoyable! Can’t wait to see more from your journey👏
Great choice! 👏 More to come.
Yes, we want more Ninja's content!!
ZX-6R does not have down quckshifter with autoblipper because it has a cable throttle. On ZX-4RR you have electric throttle it can open by itself for blipping
I love the retro paint scheme. I’ve always watched your channel, but this bike gets me excited to see content.
I would love to get one, but I’m too old and fat now lol
I agree.
I have a cbr300 and I’m trynna decide between 4rr and 6r next. Appreciate this vid!
6r if you're trying to go on track. 4rr for everything street.
Ongoing issue with the zx4rr on the lack of tightening of the head gasket. Better have that retorqued to +2 on the factory spec.
Yes it did! I forgot to dig into that topic 😆
Will say tho. I am of a similar opinion and am eyeing a 675ss after the first model years kinks are confirmed and sorted out.
Is it worth buying in US de-tuned version if you keep it stock?
This bike looks super cool, and fun to ride, but I just can't justify paying over 10k for a 400cc bike. I have a gen 3 mt09, and absolutely love it. In my opinion, it's the best street bike. Enough power to really have fun with, but not too much to where I can't use most of it on the street. I love the cp3 engine, it sounds amazing and has a fuck ton of torque.
MT09 is a great bike! Glad you're happy with it.
ZX4RR is such an awesome bike. I am a total simp for the inline 4 scream and you can rev the t*** out of it without loosing your license. I had a blast test riding it, but I am so sad that it doesn´t have cruise control... My neck is too messed up to be able to ride it longer than an hour without a lot of pain.
yeah revving those 600s out will get your license in a lot of trouble fast....hell I have my CB650R going 85 in 2nd gear...and that's 2000rpm below the redline.
the cbr650r is slept on! nice bike
I like Kawasaki’s history and product line. They make the wildest machine. Second would be Suzuki for reliability.
I had gsxr600 traded it in for the 40thanniversary zx4rr great bike in everyway great round corners handles great
I had the honor of riding all 4 of the 2024 anniversary models.
Thats not why they quit making the 750. Learn more about motorcycles.
Well done bro ❤ from Australia. The looks of your bike are spectacular. I really hope you are living your dreams and stay safe whilst enjoying that beautiful girl
There's also Honda CBR 650R that has a 4 cylinder and comfier ergonomics than the 600 class. Revs higher than the 2 cylinders also.
Heavy tho
Kinda heavy yeah, only 3 kilos heavier than the comparable Suzuki GSX-8R tho.
Heyyy i have one tooo !!! Love this thing, and im in south Florida so i get to ride in good weather alott
For your Safety, you should be riding in position 3 which is close to the dotted lines on a 2 lane road or any road for that matter. When just commuting
How aggressive is the riding position compared to the MT09? I had a MT07 and a Z900 and I miss that 4 cylinder.
Slightly more aggressive than a 400 but still comfortable
rode 11 000 km on summer it is quite fun! Have SC project exhaust
I'm in my 40s this is my 1st bike the main reason why I got this it's for my son he's 14 in two years he can get his permit and I can get a bigger bike last on but I do love how it sits so my next bike might be a h2
Awesome
Ride safe.
The cbr600rr has the whole sweet of electronics, that woulda been my first choice
Getting a bigger back tire will be better over bumps and turns
No turns in Florida. Only bumps are speed bumps
@@KirkKreifels you are probably more confident rider than I am 😭
I don't know how true but here in Thailand I was told there's no more of these 400s in stock and that they're going to be 500cc soon. yeah 4-cylinder 500 CC
The 500sr is coming out, there's also the kove 450 but ofc japanese bikes will last decades, not so sure about italians and chinese, though cf moto has turned out pretty reliable. Way cheaper than the zx tho, more value.
What is your camera and mic set up?
GoPro 11 and tascam dr10L
I prefer my knees bent. It stretches my quads. But everyone has different mobility. I have 34" inseam
I have the opposite problem I can barely tip toe it lol
cool ! is it falshed ? or is it still the limited power US version ? i looks like it is not limited
Still stock ECU
How do you get the audio so crisp without wind noise?
It should get better with a new windscreen on the ninja.
I use the tascam dr10L with a cheap deadcat
$10k!? Here in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 they go for $15k us dollar btw.😭
I got my 40th anniversary zx4rr $15Aud (Australia) and zx6r 40th was $18k. $15 American is insane although cbr 600 is $30k here and cheaper elsewhere
I have ZX4RR too, does your bike lean/drifts towards right when you leave your hands? My bikes does, so was wondering is it my bike only.
I haven't noticed. Maybe the wheel is out of balance
@@KirkKreifels thanks, let me get it checked.
Roads can be crowned and off camber. If you ride on the right side like in the USA your bike will likely drift to the right unless you counter it.
@@dannyferguson9415 i am from US. Dont think it is crown issue you mentioned.
Maybe check your rea axel is straight? Definitely should not pull to one side.
Have the exact same bike. Subscribed!
Right on!
I just purchased 2024 zx4rr waiting delivery yoshimura exhaust and tuned cant wait im in say way feeling I could of had a bigger bike this ticked all the boxes
I thought my Yoshimura AT2 was loud, but that skinny pipe must be louder. That's the only thing I don't like about it, it sounds great but that raw volume makes me scared I'm gonna get pulled over every time because it sounds like I'm going 120 when I'm climbing to 50
What all you are thinking about durability of this engine?
Love my ZX-4RR man..
i guess my real judge if this bike will be how long you keep it now
Forever
DO YOU GUYS GET 2 YEAR UNLIMITED MILEAGE KAWASAKI WARRANTY LIKE IN AUSTRALIA? I think log book service needs to be done by dealer (Honda 2year warranty with dealer doing log book or its 12mth warranty. Not sure about Kawasaki atm)
1 year with optional 3 year extended for 4 year total. I opted for the extended as it wasn’t too pricy
I extended to a total of 5 years I think. It was only about $500 USD.
@@KirkKreifelsThat's an awesome option. I absolutely love the look of the 40th anniversary bikes. Stay safe and enjoy whilst I enjoy your content 💚 from Australia
Did insurances rates go down being only a 400 cc ?
Went up
Depends on your record. Mine is only $17/months old full coverage for my 24zx4rr
Nice bike but... Why a Kaufman?
MT09 ❤❤
Beautiful bike and lovely sound however there is no way that a stock or semi stock like yours will do an actual 150 mph. I wish that a bike like yours with an ECU flashed with no restrictions would go 150 mph and I would take it to Bonneville and set the record for a production 500cc bike.
Yes, it has to be flashed and a very long straight downhill 😂
@@KirkKreifels I've been kicking around this bike or a zx10r for next year's Speed Week but I'll need 150 mph on the zx4r.
Sound great!
Bought the 24 636 ,couldn't go backwards after riding 600 and 1000 size bikes
To each his own. Even at 55mph I get to 80 plenty fast for me. Enjoy your ride and be safe!!!
