A great way to remember which direction to move the trim wheel: forward and back to match the yoke pressure. Student Pilot here and this will stick with me.
Wow, when I was 10 years old, I was adjusting the angle of the tail section of my paper plane to make it fly more leveled. I just learned thet I was adjusting trims of my paper plane :)
The way trim tabs work has seemed SO counterintuitive to me - I've read and watched everything I could find in hopes of better understanding how they work. You're the ONLY one that has made me understand what's going on. I now think of it this way: the control surface might fly the airplane, but the trim tab flies the control surface. Thank you!!! I watched a different video where he used a computer generated image but he had to color draw a trim tab on the stabilizer and it didn't move! Then he just focused on the trim wheel and didn't explain which way it actually moved the tab! Thank you for explaining it! I was pretty sure this was the way it worked but you confirmed it for me!

Very informative, been looking for a video on how to trim your aircraft, i play flight simulator games. I have a big passion and dream for future, i mostly use this for my paper plane. Stupid birds keep striking into my engine, makes it lose balance, since i haven't known what and X, and V, trim is, atleast i knew something thanks man

I would just say that none of these surfaces are "pushing air" when the shape of the wing become more flat it reduces lift and there for lowers causing the nose to rise. when you adjust the trim in the opposite direction to cause the elevator to move down, that increases pressure below the the wing there for increasing lift, causing the nose to dive.
Thanks. I would comment that it's not the case that pitch always controls airspeed and power always controls altitude. Each one can affect speed or altitude ("pitch+power=performance"). It's just that in certain situations (such as high drag, high angle of attack), pitch is more effective in controlling speed than is power (we call pitch "primary" for airspeed in that situation). But when flying an ILS approach, it's easier to think of power as more effective to control speed.
Now I understand. I got this question wrong on the exam because it is not intuitive at all especially to a boater. Now I see your video and it makes sense. Raising the trim tab pushes the elevator down causing the nose to down. The trim tab does not move the plane, it moves the elevator.
Rather than seeing trim as up and down I see it as forward and back. Therefore: pushing *forward* on the yolk or rolling *forward* on the trim results in the aircraft pitching down & pulling *back* on the yolk or rolling *back* on the trip pitches the aircraft down. It really fascinates me when people play flight sims and opt for a Cessna (or any other civilian aircraft, really). I mean it's a simulator. You could be flying an F-35B, F/A-18C, F-16C or even just a B-1B or B-2. (Then again I mostly play shooters, so maybe i am not a pilot at heart and just love things that blow stuff up, lol)

Many Cessnas do not have a cockpit-adjustable rudder trim. But they will still have a rudder trim. Look for a metal tab on the back of the rudder. It is somewhat triangular. Don't touch it! This is meant to be adjusted by a mechanic on the ground. When you are experiencing your issue with bank, look at the ball. If it is not centered, apply rudder until it is. If the plane continues to bank then you have an aileron trim issue. Many cessnas do not have aileron trim either. If this is happening in the simulator you can often add a button for aileron trim even if the real plane doesn't have it. You might also check if your fuel is balanced and your joystick calibration and null zone. I hope this helps.

Well, in the case of a jammed elevator the trim tab might have a slight effect acting as a small elevator. But it would work in reverse. Moving the trim wheel foward would cause the nose to rise.
I thought "trim" was to stabilize bank angle while compensating for engine torque. I don't fly, but I'm trying to learn all I can from UA-cam at terra firma.
I don't think you used the best verbiage in this video. The air is not being pushed, it is being deflected. This can make your communication a bit confusing for students who are trying to understand the concepts of the secondary flight controls. otherwise, nice job

i never had a problem with the trim wheel being up to go down, i always thought of it as rotate the wheel in the direction i want to rotate the plane

They are rather simple planes compared to jet fighters and military aircraft

Yeah, the elevator has the air follow it basically, that is also how wings work (along with pressure too)

Why the trim tab is only on the left side of the horizontal stabilizer (Cessna 172)?
There is another on the other rear stabilizer on the other side of the vertical stabilizer
