I bought my first motorcycle at age 75 and am quite happy with the 58 hp of my NC750X. I thought I'd never even consider swinging a leg over any bike with more power, but having seen you with the stomach to tackle this monster on those twisty mountain roads and talking about riding attitude, you've convinced me that it's not a crazy thing to do.

    • @patrickspapens5497

For me it's quite the other way around. Got my license at 34. Just a few months later i moved to Switzerland, rented a Kawasaki Z-H2 as my first ride since getting my license and to go up and down twisty mountain passes with a 200bhp supercharged bike was quite the experience. I rode a Honda 650cc bike to pass for my license so the power difference was crazy. Now i only ride liter bikes and high powered ones. I always thought I didn't need more than a 650 or even a 750cc bike. But once you've tried one a bit more powerful you come to realise that a lot is just a matter of perception. Even the insanely powerful bikes can still be driven safe and responsibly. Going to try the M1000R in a couple weeks, can't wait to experience it.

It was really great to see you on this international launch. I like that you focused on the details of your riding impressions, which really resonates with any experienced riders trying to get a sense of the new M. I did have to pause the video, open the fridge, stare at the mustard, and try to figure out what “keen as mustard” possibly means. The mustard here in the US is more of a dullard variety. I’m sure you’ve done this already, but Dianese UK can either replace that zipper or direct you to the service center they use. I thought it was very cool how your hosts pulled together to come up with a temporary solution for you. Very nice.

I would go with the competition pack. It's a very good value for money. Plus I love the black and grey against the M colors. The BMW is now a strong competitor to the Ducati StreetFighter v4 (possibly a better value as well) and the Tuono Factory. I'm wondering if that 3.6 gallon tank you mentioned has enough range though to not be constantly needing fuel. That can spoil a ride.

Kate, I now have the 2024 M1000R Competition and I put Evotech end bar weights and it solves the issue of handlebar vibrations...I also have the Luimoto gel inserted seat cover and that solves any comfort issues when I'm doing a 300 or 500 mile day. Most humans will NEVER be able to ride 500 miles per day on the s1000RR or M1000RR. Their backs and knees would be killing them... The M Endurance chain is superior to all other chains and therefore doesn't need the vast attention of too much cleaning although I've been cleaning the chain once every 1,000 miles. No chain issues, no stretching issues or any of that...I have the Brentune Stage 1 and that has allowed me to hit close to 180 mph which is fast enough for me. Torque goes up instantly with the Brentune and so does the horsepower...

I'm so sorry about your phone and suit, but massive respect to you that it didn't seriously mess up your state of mind and you were able to crack on, despite the inconvenience and extra layers! What a bike too. Like you I love my naked bikes and the upright riding position, this looks like one hell of a bike. How would you say it compares to the Streetfighter V4S?

Thanks for the excellent review, still waiting for the bike to land here in the US and you were extremely thorough. Great review Kate. Good portrayal of the experience of riding the bike and good to see extended riding footage (better than some of the other reviews I’ve seen). I know some of the roads you’re on and know how challenging they are but they’re great aren’t they. I was trying to follow your route but lost track a bit. Mojacar to Turre old Road to Los Gallardos up to Bedar then El Marchal up to Lubrin then round the back to Almeria circuit.

I have been waiting for BMW to provide us with a super naked for donkeys and finally we have it and I am super excited to get mine in March. I have a Streetfighter V4S abroad which I enjoy riding as my main form of transport there and its insane with the Akra full system. I love my naked bikes, always only had naked bikes for the past 10 years. I have placed an order for a M1000R Comp Pack simply because it looks stunning in black and all the lovely carbon bits plus it comes with a wind deflector which I am hoping will deflect that wind in higher speeds. Love the review Kate, have been waiting for reviews of this bike since I placed my order about 3 weeks ago and enjoyed your opinion of this awesome bike. I can't wait to ride it. All in all good honest review - well done!

Oh lord, honestly I'd struggle to pick. I've not ridden the SFV4S on the road yet so it's hard to comment! But the sound and the looks of the V4S also make me 🤤

Get Alpinestars gear, Kate. From my experience (through the years I've had stuff from Dainese, Alpinestars, Held, Spidi, Rev'it, Furygan and RST) their zippers are the best in the industry and the overall fit and finish is unbeatable.

My short answer....definitely not, however freedom of choice is a wonderful thing and the fact that someone else has a differing opinion is awesome!

    Great review Kate.
What were the mirrors like. I bought them for the 21 S1KR when they first came out and they were unusable so switched back to the HJR ones I already had. Also do the brakes feel considerably better than the standard S1KR?

Mirrors are a bit shakey when you're pressing on a bit but not too bad at slow speeds. Brakes seemed pretty strong but I can't really remember what they were like on the S so apologies there!

Think you liked it Kate, amazing looking bike and those numbers.
Pity about your leathers, but great use of black gaffer tape, could be the start of a new fashion craze.

Very nice mountain road. I am surprised that there are almost no cars. Where I live, a similar road like that has line after line of cars, every day from sunrise to sunset, almost impossible to ride.

I cant wait to be able to jump on one of these and compare it directly to my 2021 S1000R! Great video Kate, shame about the leathers!! I much prefer the look of the "Base" model in white/ M colours the black/carbon just doesn't stand out as much I think. If i do get one i already have all the carbon and fancy bits on my bike so they'll swap over!
