Illinois is not being kicked out of the Big 10. Whitman reminds me of Nebraska when they warned they would get kicked out of the Big 10 over academics. It is an attempt to scare people into giving more $, instead of working for it. Compare that to other conference “Bottom Feeders”, such as NU getting a new Stadium , Indiana grabbing 32 players from the portal and even Rutgers so far a top 10 recruiting class. I don’t expect Illinois to be Ohio St, or build a new stadium, but is it asking too much to beat out Rutgers for recruits?
They’re not going to kick them out. They’ll just get left behind during the next round of realignment. Northwestern and Purdue don’t belong in the same conference as Ohio State and USC. There’s going to be a breakaway eventually
20:39. As a Purdue fan, I'm not laughing at other lower-tier Big 10 or Big 12 schools. We may have had a top-tier basketball program this past year (which should still be pretty good in the future), but our football program is terrible and we know that football drives all the major decisions in conference realignment. Also, while getting downgraded would be terrible, programs like Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, etc. might be more competitive in football at a lower level, and (hopefully) would still have possible March Madness possibilities if they win whatever conference they're in, so perhaps all would not be lost from a competitive standpoint.
@jamieflynn9697 Sorry dude but you're just wrong. Those markets have never been valuable for CFB and they are going to be straight up garbage for the next round of TV deals. That's becuase in the next round of TV deals everyone is moving away from a market share model and towards an inventory model. Rutgers and Maryland are extremely low value inventory and you will probably see Fox and ESPN attempt to get them booted from the Big Ten
@jamieflynn9697 Rutgers and Maryland are on the chopping block but Vanderbilt is not. The reason is the Big Ten is carrying 6 teams that could be considered low value in terms of good products to view. Those being Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Northwestern and Illinois. The Big Ten can't afford to carry 6 lagging teams, however the SEC will be just fine carrying one or two lagging teams, those being Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.
I dunno, the Big 12 is about to come into a windfall with sponsorships and they have a bunch of schools with football programs that provide a much better quality of life than most SEC schools. Plus they don't have Alabama and Georgia to worry about. If I'm a star athlete I'd much rather go Big 12 than SEC right now.
It's been 3 weeks and no one is laughing about the longhorns stealing the Aggies coach. Every A&M player stayed, and Early has gone 6-0 against Schlos on the recruiting trail.
Traditions and connections don't mean squat anymore. Any team that is not a "name brand" (Michigan, Bama, Ohio State, Texas, USC, ND, etc.) should be very afraid. An elite league is coming and anyone that doesn't contribute will get trimmed, in order to make the wealthy even wealthier. Schools like Illinois, Vandy, Rutgers, Mississippi State, etc. will be left behind. Just ask yourself this question: If you are "THE" Ohio State, do you want to split your TV money with Illinois? Or do you want a bigger chunk for yourself? That's the future of college football.
And no one will watch when those days come so they won't last. I'm a Big Ten graduate and am amazed that no one seems to realize that college football got so popular because of the collective fanbase and viewing audience, 60% of which comes from outside the Big Ten or SEC. Once they alienate everyone outside of their two leagues the viewing audience dries up in half because all the fans from schools who used to be included aren't anymore. And those fans are not going to tune in to watch teams they don't care about that relegated their schools. Even tOSU would be shell of it's past TV ratings if 60% of college fans are relegated.
@@JohnKurtzShow Of course. Needs to be stated. 95% of the similar shows are unwatchable. Greg Flugaur and yourself are the 5%, always on the money and accurately previewed.
Sour grapes from the outside looking in. KSU and Kansas would never be a competitor in the B1G. Would be like adding another Illinois. Why would we trade a longtime conference member for that. The B1G will stick together as it’s more than just football.
Not a tier list, but I would enjoy a video of you separating teams into the perfect conferences in your mind. You are the dictator or college athletics, and get to group teams however you see fit.
Illinois will be fine. There is also time to improve your "brand" between now and whenever the next imagined earthquake occurs. Even the mediocre teams have rabid fanbases that, more often than not, travel. The Big Ten has fantastic state flagship institutions in great locations, now throughout the country.
When 80% of the fan bases are left out what are they going to do for an audience? I’m already not going to watch any Big Ten or SEC games unless West Virginia’s playing one of the suckers.
@1stcivdiv81 no you are not just because you say shit doesn’t make it so. Just because a lot of people watch your games because they’re the only thing on during prime time doesn’t mean they are fans. It just means they are bored. If you take their team that they really root for out of any equation then they will be highly upset and won’t watch you just like me, my man
I agree there are teams in the middle of the big10 Nebraska Iowa Wisconsin that are probably close to if not better then any big12 team and they will probably never make the playoff
Nebraska got beat by Colorado last year and have been a weakling since the last four years of their Big 12 time. They'd be bottom half of every conference except maybe the Big Ten (who has tOSu and Michigan but no one else).
Too bad about the greed about the players. We all need to have money though to survive. Especially for those who are broke & poor! That needs to change either way! But as the College Football Season progresses! What needs to happen FAR FAR FAR WORSE than the money situation being solved or anything else right now is for those Doping Oregon Ducks to finally start losing more games of Football &/or this Nation & the NCAA to finally step up to the plate & wake up & smell reality & punish those Oregon Ducks for their cheating ways. After those cheater Oregon Ducks won the last Fiesta Bowl when they were supposed to have been banned from Post Season Play! It came down to the point to where I don’t even want to be anywhere in this nation the way they turned traitorous like that. I miss the USA I was proud to call my home, I miss when the American Dream was still alive & I miss when those doping Oregon Ducks didn’t get all those multiple easy wins in College Football. And I’d give almost anything to have them all back. And the way this nation turned traitorous like that by not taking any action on those Cheating Ducks! I would’ve moved OUT OF THIS NOW TRAITOROUS NATION if I had unlimited amounts of money. And I would NOT MOVE BACK until those Doper Ducks finally lose way more games &/or this nation & the NCAA finally take action on this. I did not think anyone would be any worse of a head of the NCAA than Mark Emmert until Charlie Baker became just that. So Charlie Baker needs to be fired & replaced with a better Head of the NCAA who will do better at taking action on those Oregon Ducks & their cheating ways. Charlie Baker is doing a Lousy job of it. As did Mark Emmert when he was still the main head!

I really hope I am wrong!
I’ve certainly heard the chatter/speculation of lower-tier power two schools getting removed… that’s the first I’ve heard of an actual coach voicing that concern. Pretty fascinating. Thanks again John!
Agree. After they get FSU and Clemson they will start looking around at all the lesser programs and the blue bloods will form their own conference or at the most 2 conferences. It will not include Rutgers, Maryland, Vanderbilt, or Kentucky and there is nothing they can do about it.
The NFL model will create an overall shuffle in every conference including the B1G and SEC. The weaker schools will be dumped when the new 60 team model is adopted. They are going to take the best of the best. Then they'll take those on the cusp. IE with the most reliable booster/financial backing. Like an SMU, UCF etc. Watch.
@@mynumberoneguy I believes it'll be 32 teams just like the NFL. Texas, OU, UGA, LSU, Bama, Michigan, OSU, USC, FSU, ND and 22 other name brand schools that are "blue bloods" or at least financially backed. The rest are left like the rest of us, which is fine. We can go back to building regional conferences and being the amateur college athletes that we deserve to be. Then this 32 league team will realize they need the other schools in other to survive bc the viewership will dry up after a couple of seasons.
