The music is fine. Disregard the haters. I'm not sure why people think their own criticism is their gift to this world. I was taught, "If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all." I never comment on tons of videos that have taught me a lot however, I'm getting older and I guess I'm getting a little tired of mean people who complain. They should go make their own videos instead of complaining about those who are actually teaching, sharing and giving their time. Your teaching and skills teach me how to do things that I can do IF I only knew how to do it. Now I do know thanks to you taking your own time to teach us. Thanks for your time to do this! I appreciate you! PS, Turn the music up! See, I told you I was old. 🙂
Thanks for the compliment! This was one of my very first videos I had ever made and didn't really know what I was doing ! Over the past year I have learned lots and hope my newer videos are better to watch! We all have to start somewhere... :)
Exactly so many of these you tubers get taken into the big brands and its so annoying to see them partner with people like Anny Slone rip off paint company
Love your works of art. Hate the music. Annoying. Distracting. Totally not needed. Simply watching and listening to your instructions is all we need. Thanks for sharing!
This is one of my very first videos and my editing skills were not good! I have lots of new content that is much nicer to watch :) I should redo and edit this one :)
I was going to buy a sign from amazon for my yard that would take 6-8 weeks, but now I think Im going to make my own :) You make it look so easy & fun to achieve your desired look. Wish me luck!
I have never woodworked before watching you. Thank you. I have the bug now and have started buying tools and having a go. It is surprising what I have achieved. Good but surprised the heck out of me. I am truly grateful. Laser printer next on list. No stopping now. Cheers from Down Under- Australia
Amazing! For my Family this will make perfect Christmas gifts for each of their homes and styles. Florida residents LOVE these southern style antique looking chippy signs!!! So so Cool. Can’t wait to dive in with this One! Love Love Love!!
Her Formula in this project: I Cup Latex Paint - Matte or Satin 2 Tbsp. (heaping) Salt - "pickling" type 1 Tbsp. (heaping) Plastic of Paris Preparation/Instructions: Into a container pour the paint. Measure and toss in the dry ingredients (Salt & Plastic of Paris). Stir until well mixed. I kept wanting to see the Yellow peep through in this project.
Love this technique! It's the most authentic, aged paint finish that shows paint layers. It's interesting that you alternate the chalk & salt wash paints. I've used Elmer's Glue (the regular school glue) thinned slightly with water & brushed on prior to the top coat to create authentic cracks - very inexpensive. The top coat also needs to be thinned down & brushed with a loaded brush (brushing back & forth removes crackle). Thank you for sharing your tips!
Can you also tell me the brand and name of poly outdoor sealer you use? I cant tell from the video. It looks like interior varathane, but not sure cause you say its polyacrylic. Thank you
Thank you so much! I have 40+ pieces of embroidery to frame and this just really opens the door! I could see doing this on cardboard if it was layered and, oh my! THank you!!
I just bought an large, antique apothecary cabinet that when it was advertised, it had the best 100+ years of patina on it but when I went to go see it, they had painted the cabinet a bright white and sanded the drawers, all that patina GONE. I still bought it tho and was thinking how I was going to make it look like it had a 100 year old finish on it. This will be what I’m going to do with it. I know it’s going to take me a LONG time since it has 18 drawers and it’s a large piece but I think it will be worth it to do this project on a large scale. Thanks for all your painting tutorials.
Beautiful, thanks so much for sharing. I use to make my own chalk paint some years ago, and forgot. Now that I'm getting back into painting, it's nice to remember I don't have to spend so much money on paint.
I was looking for another technique and this was recommended, and I’m so glad. This is a new technique to me, tho I’ve tried my own “aging” technique. This takes it to a whole new level. Great job!
Thanks for the great tutorial. I can’t wait to use on my glass panel door project. Only thing I will do different is my last coat I will do the glue crackle technique too.
Beautiful job and good instruction:) You can use Vaseline for the edges, much cheaper than bees wax. Also, for even more cracks, paint with Elmer's glue before a final coat and it will make huge cracks:) Love your salt idea, you go girl!!
If you don’t have Vaseline, you can also use a regular white candle, It works really well too! And since it’s smaller, you have more control if you want to do some designs or outline in small places
I just found this video today, over a year since you posted it! I love this look and plan on using it on my shiplap boards (before they're installed) when we do our front hall in the Fall. I love shiplap and I think your technique will take it up a few notches to get that 100 year old look! Great job! Where in Ontario are you, I'm also in Ontario, I live in Oshawa. So glad I stumbled upon your video!😊
I am new here stumbled across your channel 10 mins before New Years Eve!!!!!!! I absolutely love this paint technique and all the beautiful colors picking thru gorgeous!!!!!! Hope to soon ya soon!!!!! Toodles ♥️

Love your methods , here and on your other vids. When I was in college one of my art professors would say I could make wood look like metal , patina bronze in particular. I used paint in much the same way. Now there are kits available to make wood look like it's rusted metal, or bronze with a patina . Btw, where have you been all my life?❤
Great technique and instructional! We almost expected to hear the sign was flipped for 50,000 USD. :) The chamfering of the corners on new sawn cuts on new stock and on older commercial furniture pieces when repainting is done adds a little insurance that the paint or coating (s) will adhere. We did a similar finish years ago using gesso and polenta and a bunch of hand sanding.. Great job!
I bet you’re right! Sea… salt. Sea Spray. The table I have is SUPER old. It is wood but I have no idea what kind. I cleaned it up and it’s one solid piece (on top) I’m thinking it’s going to soak up so much expensive paint. Do you any tricks up your sleeve for putting something on the top first before I use paint? I have stain, would that help?I forgot about this one but I did make your sand & plaster of paris. If ever I want to change it up, I can sand it off, right? I found a table “workbench” that’s going to look super cute using this technique. 💕
Hi there, this looks awesome when finished and looks fun to do!! Could you please tell me if I could use acrylic paint instead of latex paint? Thanks so much! ♥️♥️🇦🇺
So glad you found me! Love new crafting friends. Hope you find lots of great content. I use a poly acrylic sealer water based to seal most of my projects
Hello this is a wonderful technique! Do you let each layer dry, and if so for how long, between layers? I also have a drawer I found in the trash somewhere, it is pre stained and finished, should i sand the stain off, or is it ok to work from there up? Thanks so much!!! Love your items
Can I use this mixture on my terracotta garden pot with my chalk paint to give it an aged texture and not a flat look? I've seen that Dixie Belle do what they call Seaspray, is this recipe similar? I live in the UK and don't want to pay £15 plus postage for it! Your sign looks fantastic!!

Thanks for sharing! Could I simply add coarse salt to ready made chalk paint (without adding plaster of Paris)?
This technique will only work the best by using this exact recipe. Thanks for watching :)
That is so so gorgeous 😍. Pickling salt is not easily available and very expensive in my country. Would it be fine if I use sand instead?
Sample not work as well because you can’t use a sander to remove the sand. It will stick in the paint, but you could use any type of salt.
beautiful result . is it a must to use latex paint? we don't have that in France. any other paint that could be used? thanks
Yes, absolutely you can use any type of paint!

You can seal it with poly acrylic sealer
