I totally agree! I remember when I read that Willie had died in 2021 because my husband was going through cancer himself in 2019-2020 and in 2020 my dad passed away from “Parkinson’s related illness “ (or so we are told to say about Parkinson’s anyway). Then my mother in law passed… so I couldn’t help but remember anyone who passed away in the years around the pandemic, I worked in the entertainment industry so there were many names in my head …and I was really confused and not so happy that that they turned Stanford into a monk living in Japan in the second season. I have no issue with the monk part, but that they seemed to gloss over the character of Stanford. No big thing needed but, still? It felt so empty. And for Samantha , Kim Cattrall wasn’t easy on production and SJP long before, “And Just Like That…”… not sure the why but I could have done without her… Then there’s Carrie’s love life but won’t say too much season 3 looks like it’s coming at some time
How did they explain it because I read even though I’m not watching the show that they were planning on giving his character midlife crisis. He deserve better and another reason why I’m glad I never decided to partake in this new show
I agree with Julia D, I think him leaving like that, without saying goodbye to Carrie, and leaving his Husband, wasn't something Stanford would do, he was a kind, caring man. I hope they address it better later in the show, with maybe him knowing he had an illness and didn't want to see his Husband suffer and also see Carrie live with more death and sadness. Just to write him out in this way, is not the way we want to see Stanford go, RIP Willie Garson, we loved you.
Same way they wrote out samantha. It just really didn't make sense for her character to just desert them all and not even show up for mr big's death but I know they had no choice, life happens, people pull out of shows and people die and i guess that's just how best they could do it
I agree. It would have been better if they had have Stanford to go out the way that you said, which they still can. I think they were going for "funny" and felt they couldn't have another "sad" ending right after Mr. Big had died. Willie's death seems like it was sudden (to the cast and crew) and they only had a few episodes in the can at that time. Definitely am going to miss Stanford, a.k. Willie Garson. May he rest in peace.
Wow, I can hardly believe how much tragedy has followed this reboot! Between the Kim Cattral feud remaining unresolved, the Chris Noth sexual abuse allegations and now Willie Garson's sudden death, I'm beginning to think we should have just allowed our favorite show to be laid to rest instead 😩
Indeed. But they have made all the characters unlikeable so it isn't new. They have turned into 3 clueless Karens on a personal journey of woke atonement, seemingly as punishment for their 90s transgressions. They have a comedian character, who they had do a netflix special.... with no comedy. Just a 'I'm not sad I have allies and a community!' line. Really shows you where the writers heads are at. I did appreciate the "by the time you read this I will be gone.... - who is he the fourth Bronte sister?!" line. I don't get why he couldn't be vacationing in Japan and letting Anthony be open whilst there so they can have him interact with others. Didn't need to run away and divorce in a letter like that. Bad bad writing. Kim Cattrall was right to stay away. They are butchering these characters.
They should of been honest, and made his character pass away on the show, many people might think I'm wrong and believe it to be redundant so soon after the death of Big,but clever writers could find away to pull it off, rather than the stupid story line he left for Japan, and wants a divorce, that's stupid and an insult to the audience, he would never leave, never cave an indication of being unhappy, quite the opposite. Bad Bad writing!!!
I agree wholeheartedly. The way they explained his absence leaves it open ended as if he could return in the future and come back to Anthony and the girls, which we all know is not going to be possible. I found what they did a severe disservice to who was as a character and as an actor for all of those years. He was Carrie’s best friend for goodness sake, he wouldn’t just up and leave…….
People die suddenly and unexpectedly in this age group. Better they should have written him an honorable death ☠️ than write a script where he abandons a grieving friend and leaves a note telling his husband he is divorcing him. They found a terrible way to “write off” a sweet character. Shame, shame, shame.
I just cannot believe he's dead!!! This is such a shocking and devastating news. Irrespective of what show he pops up in, he immediately becomes the star in it...hilarious, a comedic genius, and always a delight to watch. He's one of a kind and impossible to forget.
They did a horrible job with addressing his passing … this remake is cannon for me… movies were the real remake (my apologies for making mistakes English isn’t my first language)
Because of how oddly he'd left, I wonder if they're making Stanford's story closer to reality than we think. What if Stanford, as well, is dealing with a terminal illness? What if he's doing this -- breaking things off with his husband, leaving without a face-to-face goodbye -- because it'll make things easier on everyone, including himself, when he dies later on in the season?
I hope they can attempt to graciously address loss-Carrie losing big, and Samantha, and Stanford, all in different ways yet all just as significant and heavy.

Not liking at all how this was addressed. I honestly think it would have been better to have the character pass away, even with what happened to Big. People die. These writers need to watch Mr Maisel. Superb clothing, brilliant writing. They addressed a cast member death in a respectful, meaningful way. This was addressed the whole episode, not for 5 seconds. AJLT writers are truly disrespectful and untalented.
Willie as Stanford was the absolute BEST. A beloved character in SATC. AJLT’s (non)“handling” of his death was the WORST. Shamefully so. But then…the whole season was shameful. He deserved so much better. RIP Willie. #gonetoosoon
Sanford was a good friend on sex in the city, I love sex in the city and I also like And just like that, my deepest condolences to his family I will miss seeing him on And just like that I loved his character. 😌😔
Personally I would have toned down the huge funeral of Big and the tribute to him by taking some scenes out. And then have Stanford die too and do a tribute to him in the series. All this was known before they aired it, so they could do that. In hindsight that would also have been perfect when we now know about the accusations of Kris Noth
Stanford wouldn’t have left Carrie and Anthony in a letter! He wouldn’t have left them both like that! He was too caring, to sweet, had to much compassion and empathy! They need to some how eventually disclose what really happened to him. It would be what he really wanted.
This show is about journeys through life. We meet people that that we had know lost loved ones as we march through life. Why not present this as another death? It would have been authentic.
I wish they'd of just killed off Willie's character as what actually happened to the actor...it's the same injustice that Guiding Light did to Michael Zaslow back in the day...please tv shows, if an actor gives you years of their life, give their character a dignified end...
Willy was so such a wonderful addition to the cast of Sex And The City. That was a terrible ending for his role. He was so loved, I always looked forward to seeing him, he was a good friend to Carrie.

Why did they even have to write him out of the reboot at all? Why not just refer to him, but he doesn't actually appear again? It's not like he was in every episode or story line of the original show. Absolutely horrible writing.
Rest in peace 🙏
These writers need to watch Mr Maisel. Superb clothing, brilliant writing. They addressed a cast member death in a respectful, meaningful way. This was addressed the whole episode, not for 5 seconds. AJLT writers are truly disrespectful and untalented.
Willie as Stanford was the absolute BEST. A beloved character in SATC. AJLT’s (non)“handling” of his death was the WORST. Shamefully so. But then…the whole season was shameful. He deserved so much better. RIP Willie. #gonetoosoon
RIH Willie Garson 🙏❤️
This guy hasn’t aged. I am surprised he passed. RIP.
I could feel them crying on the episode when he passed.
Honestly they did it in a shitty unsensible way...
The best written character in the series, period.
May his soul rest in God's loving embrace 🙏🙏
Right, so unbelievable
This show is about journeys through life. We meet people that that we had know lost loved ones as we march through life. Why not present this as another death? It would have been authentic.
Can this "And Just Like That" get any worse? But, prayers to the man. He rocked!
The writing was horrendous in so many ways. Him vanishing to party with a 17 yr old just felt rushed. X
LOL they definitely got the morality and behavior of Big confused with that of Sanford.
So many problems 🤦♂️
Oh so sad 😞 but very grateful for the show coming back!
I wish they'd of just killed off Willie's character as what actually happened to the actor...it's the same injustice that Guiding Light did to Michael Zaslow back in the day...please tv shows, if an actor gives you years of their life, give their character a dignified end...
The new series just seems like it would be so depressing
okay. i can understand sarah being asked about samantha not returning but uhmm did she just used this mans death to shade her
Willy was so such a wonderful addition to the cast of Sex And The City. That was a terrible ending for his role. He was so loved, I always looked forward to seeing him, he was a good friend to Carrie.
Oh Willie! We miss you!
😩 I liked him so much 🙈😭 why........😭
