Broken Glass isn't a 80's song, was released in 1992.. However Annie is a legend... Was lucky enough to meet her in the late 80's after a concert, she signed my single, allowed me to take her photo (as did Dave Stewart), and she then asked if we would spend a couple of minutes with her as she asked what we thought of the concert and the act before etc... Very down to earth and kind.
"I'm livin' in an empty room with all the windows smashed. And I've got so little left to lose that it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass." Great lines!
This is from her Diva album. The whole album is a masterpiece. I’d recommend listening to little bird, precious and cold from this album. Amazing songs
I remember this song as a kid and I heard it in the grocery store about 4 years ago and I was so excited that I kept singing it in the store so I wouldn't forget it when I got home! XD
Thank you both - I thought it looked like Hugh in his younger days (around the time of _Blackadder_ and _A Little Bit Of Fry And Laurie)_ but I had no inkling the other was Malcovich. 👍
The entire album, her first after the Eurythmics broke up, is about her dealing with her divorce from her husband, so yes, you're on the right track with your analysis. The video is directly inspired by the movie interpretation of the French novel Dangerous Liaisons in which John Malkovitch stars. Her husband btw is Hugh Laurie (star of House)
I’ve seen one of these literally stand on its arse. There’s no other way to describe it. It just hung there and then took off vertically. You just can’t believe what these guys are capable of. They’re truly incredible and breathtaking.
Randomly stumbled across this video, I'm guessing, because I've searched the song before. All I can say is, wow, I needed to see this and hear that. I've been struggling with relationships and self-love. That was a good talk man. Appreciate your opinions on life and love. Sometimes we need to hear it home others because we are too busy talking shit to ourselves. Much love, brother. Thank you for the video.
I love your immense respect and affection for a true soul artists of all time. Her songwriting is so DEEP and her vocals so far above board that she’s truly timeless and her music will be enjoyed for many many years to come. Keep up the great work!!
Outstanding pop song and stellar video. Everything about it is perfection. Glad you're discovering more about Annie Lennox. She's nothing short of terrific.
Wow thanks for making me listening Annie Lennox.. This is my first time hearing this song apart from No More I Love You's, Sing, Love Song for A Vampire, and Into the West..
First video of yours I've seen. New subscriber here. I remember loving this song when I was a kid but never knew all the words or what it was about. It just made me feel good. To see you enjoying every second was amazing. Brought me back to when I was a kid. Thank you for that! ❤️
John Malkovich being in this is very much a call back to his role as the Vicomte de Valmont in 1988's Dangerous Liaisons, in which he starred with Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer and Keanu Reeves amongst others. It is based on the 18th century French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, in which two amoral aristocrats get their just desserts. Malkovich's character, a libertine, ends up dead, whilst Close's character, the Marquise de Merteuil, is completely discredited. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Liaisons_dangereuses
One of the best movies! The chemistry between Malkovich and Glenn Close is just unrivaled. Just in case someone decides to watch I won't say more than that he scene that ends with Close just saying, "War" is just freakin' fantastic and one of my favorite scenes ever filmed.
Oh yes, I remember this one. Catchy and clever. Have you listened to her "Little Bird"? Extraordinary cast in this video!! Of course I didn't notice as a kid.
She is amazing , love Who’s that girl , shining light a cover of Irish band Ash’s song , stay by me , love song for a vampire , precious, to name a few
This is after she had children and went solo.you can hear the difference with maturity and vulnerability as opposed to when she was with the Eurythmics she commanded a level of confidence that you could tell when she walked into a room she owned that room.
I seem to remember the movie 'Les Liaisons Dangerous' (Dangerous Liaisons) set in this period and starring John Malkovich was made around this time. If not, it should have been! Such sumptuous and thought provoking songs, melodies, lyrics and visuals in this video. One of myabsolute favourites.🙃💕 For something totally different try their soundtrack for the movie of the book '1984' by George Orwell, naturally called 1984.
My partner and I just figured out that we listened to this CD for over a decade! The only 3 CDs we listened to longer were Natalie Merchant (the one with Beloved Wife) still makes me cry. The Trinity Sessions by Cowboy Junkies (damn near every day since 88) still holds up and Tracy Chapman's self titled cd.. Fast Car still makes my chest ache.
1. 17 AGAIN (official video) 2. PEACE -- both from her reunion Eurythmics album called PEACE with Dave Stewart (early 2000's) 3. ANGEL (1989) from the We Too are One album (not to be confused with "There Must be Another Angel") Lucky to have seen her live a few times :-D
Carly Rae Jepsen said THIS SONG was the Template for her smash hit CALL ME MAYBE and it is has been used as part of song writing carriculums in music schools.
If not listened to yet, try Annie's original version of Step by Step covered by Whitney. It is a bonus track on Japanese version of Diva album, also b side of uk single Precious
Oxytocin. I was attracted to a type of man, but never found one that was on the same wavelength with me. For some reason, I kept being attracted to the wrong guy.
Good analysis. I also am a sucker for MELODY. It's what carries the song and sticks in your mind and prompts you to hum the tune long afterwards. Melody is EVERYTHING because it's the framework for the whole piece. That 's why Rap and Hip Hop doesn't do it for me. It's incomplete...it's the rudiments of unfinished music. Proper music has all 3 components in place... MELODY, HARMONY, AND RHYTHM. Rap gots rhythm aplenty but mostly lacks harmony and seriously lacks melody. Want proof ?? Hum a few "bars" (if that's even possible), of any typical rap song that's basically a cheezy looped computer drum BLEECH !! and "yet another typical boring running off at the mouth angry black man with verbal diarrhea gone on another vulgar nonstop rant" UGH !!....try humming a few bars of that stuff at any bus stop in America and ask people if they recognize it...YEA..I don't dislike that stuff cuz it's black...(you will not find a bigger old time delta blues fan than I) I dislike rap and hip hop cuz it's low quality poorly assembled incomplete rudimentry shit excuse for music. .Nuff said about the value of melody.
When are you going to learn to pronounce her surname properly? (lol) Her best vocals: "There must be an Angel" - and "Here comes the rain, again". ua-cam.com/video/RCdneDxFRYQ/v-deo.html
She deserves an Academy Award for this. Fantastical.
John Malkovich and Hugh Laurie were the two lead gentlemen in the video.
John still in his "Dangerous Liaisons" wardrobe. Ha.

Everything Annie Lennox does is amazing. I do like her solo track "Little Birds," and the Eurythmic's "Beethoven." Amazing.

Annie is a woman of many voices and styles.
Only just realized the guys are Hugh Laurie and John Malkovich :)
I remember this song as a kid and I heard it in the grocery store about 4 years ago and I was so excited that I kept singing it in the store so I wouldn't forget it when I got home! XD
Useless trivia: the guy sitting with Annie at the beginning is Hugh Laurie of House MD fame
John Malkovich is also in the video. He is the man she wants.
Thank you both - I thought it looked like Hugh in his younger days (around the time of _Blackadder_ and _A Little Bit Of Fry And Laurie)_ but I had no inkling the other was Malcovich. 👍
Hugh was also in Jeeves & Wooster. But Blackadder is one of the best comedy series ever made.
