    Great review mate. What I like is the compass is like a blank canvas, you can put on the accessories you want rather than paying for things you never use. I like that both people can stand at the same time and fish, a great feature and worth sacrificing a little bit of speed.

    Awesome video! Subscribed! I have the 2019 Hobie Outback that I really enjoy fishing/making videos out of but I've been looking to possibly adding a tandem to my kayak fleet. Keep the videos coming

      Thanks for watching/subscribing! We haven't had a chance to use the 2019 outback yet but we had a 2018 and it was a great kayak, we will likely add a 2020 or 2021 to our fleet.

    In regards to the drain, it works great when upside down on top of a truck rack. When i drive up a hill or just drive in general the water is pushed out the drain. In the manual for the oasis it says to store it only upside down also.

      Hey Mark, we do store our kayaks upside down always to avoid causing deformations in the hull. However in our experience/opinion the drain plug is still in a very ineffective spot. Even when upside down and tilted towards the back, some water comes out but lots of it still remains in the kayak, it gets caught in the middle or on the opposite side and does not make it to the plug. Just our personal opinion/experience, we don't regret the purchase, it's just one of the things I think they could improve upon.

    Do you have any experience using the compass duo as a solo fishing platform? How viable do you think it is?

      Hi Chris, thanks for watching and sorry for the slow reply. I (Mike) have taken the Compass Duo out solo a couple of times now. It's definitely viable, tons of room and very stable. What I've found though when fishing solo in a tandem kayak is it really helps to put a cooler bag full of ice or something up front to keep the nose down, especially if your transducer is installed near the front.

    Great review, what do you think of speed/ stability of compass duo vs oasis? I fish pelagics out of a '17 oasis on Kauai

      It's very stable vs the oasis, we have both (comparison video coming shortly). Overall I'd say I like the Oasis more, but it depends what features an individual cares about. Oasis is definitely a little faster, but Compass Duo has more stability.

    Hello Off the Yak excellent review...I have been thinking about the solo Compass for awhile now...for being a Hobie even at what they call a budget cost it leaves me disappointed in so many ways. New friend here happy to connect with another kayak fishing addict. We look forward to your fishing adventures and hope you can visit us at Bass Camo thanks !

      Thanks for the comment and sorry for the slow response! The compass definitely falls short in many ways when compared to another Hobie tandem kayak as far as features. Overall we still don't regret our purchase though and we do like this kayak, especially if you don't want all the bells and whistles sometimes it's nice to have a sort of "basic" kayak to take out that is still peddle driven with decent seats and good stability.

    I’m sorry you spilled your drink.
    Ha! No seriously though great walk through thank you! Would this be a good kayak to take kids out on? And not an issue to pedal it alone?

      Hey Matt, thanks for watching and sorry for the slow response. To clarify, I didn't actually spill my drink, but my thermoflask would not stay in the cup holder and kept falling out ;) lol. It's not an issue pedaling it alone, we've gone solo in each kayak we have (Oasis and Compass duo) several times and it's fine. Turbo fins definitely help, but not required. The Compass duo would be good for kids I think as it's very stable.

    Do u guys have issues with the compass duo tracking poorly in wind and or current? I have one and it drifts sideways

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  5 років тому

      Haven't really experienced this issue too much, at least not if you keep your hand on the rudder. But what we have definitely noticed is that unlike on our Oasis, or the Outback or Pro Angler, as soon as you take your hand off the rudder it goes all squirrelly for sure.

    • @surfboardshack3327
      @surfboardshack3327 5 років тому

      Hmm interesting. For us, as soon as we stop peddling and we’re either downwind or into the wind, the boat starts to turn sideways. Full rudder right or left has no effect.
      I managed to fit the large PA rudder on and will be giving it a go. Hope it works better

    • @surfboardshack3327
      @surfboardshack3327 5 років тому

      If you’re moving faster than 1-2mph the boat goes straight. It’s when you stop peddling or start drifting when it starts to spin out.
      Have you guys drifted in it yet?

      When do you use the oasis vs the compass? And do you prefer the oasis?
