    Here's some cool trivia for you...the nickname of beast killer was the ju152 based on he kv series( hopefully Tamiya does that one next) it was first used at kursk and it took out several of those "beasts". The ju/jsu series over 50% of them were destroyed in combat. Around 8,000 were made. The ammunition was 2 part and the main gun was designed to take out bunkers and fortifications. The rate of fire and accuracy were low and not the best. The Soviet army wanted more of them and to ease the burden of finding 152mm barrels, the m1939 122mm guns jsu122)were put in as a stop gap. The barrels fit perfectly where the jsu152 barrel sat. Of course they updated it with the same gun on the js2 tanks coming out with the jsu122S. It had the mantlet and gun of the js2 tank. I was hoping Tamiya would do both. It's literally a sprue for each. One is just a bagel and decals and the other is a barrel and mantlet. Love what you are doing. Its my favorite Soviet WW2 vehicle.

      Damn, Will. You are a walking encyclopedia!! Good and interesting info...thanks. Maybe Tamiya will read your comments and get to work on those sprues!!!

    I just love these vehicles. I bought one a while ago to make an even more beaten up Egyptian one from the 6 day war. You've inspired me to build again Rick!!😃

    Recently found your channel through listening to the Plastic Posse Podcast, really like the content, I have a Trumpeter SU152 that I have built and started to paint. One subject I would like to see more on is how you go about finding the reference photos. I have never seen the videos and photos you use, so interested in the techniques you used to find the reference material.

    • @RickLawlerPropaganda

      Hi Chris...welcome. The references that I find and use are just through online searches. Pretty basic, nothing fancy - no secret vault of photos. Thanks again.

    Why you talking about adding a cast texture to the armor plate that was originally rolled steel?

    • @RickLawlerPropaganda
      @RickLawlerPropaganda  2 роки тому

      Perhaps it isn't exactly accurate, but in this case adding the textures help to tell a story. I do appreciate your knowledge and letting me know.

      @@RickLawlerPropaganda Sorry if my words could coarse, but english is not my native langauage, i have some gaps :)
      Im from central europe, and i saw thats beasts in real in museums, generaly yours idea is ok and those plate are realy raw in real but all of vertical armour sides are made by rolled procces not only crew space, engine plates and rear also was hardened by rolling. The vehicles from Józef Stalin's family have characteristic damage, the torsion bars broke very often and you can see a lot of pictures without one or two axles on each side, the front was heavily loaded and torsion bars fell off this side, then a field repair service disassembles the good axle from the rear and mounts it in the front.
      Put "is-2 polish 4th regiment" in goole and see photos. The fenders in these vehicles were the first things that were lost in the field, first raid through the mud and ou can say bye bye the rear fenders, the front fenders also fell off a bit later ..., the tracks were very hungry ;-) and they devoured fenders and everything that was on the fenders with them

      Hi David! It's called the Grab Handler and is available through Masterpiece Models - it should be on their website.

    For the spot welds on handles and tie downs, I use Dimensional Fabric Paint ( from a company named Tulip) from Hobby Lobby. It’s quick and works well. Check it out.

      Hi Roger. I just added a link to the description of this video - top one for my tools. The brand is K&S, I use .20 brass wire for the handles. Thanks for watching and glad to help. Cheers.

    I'm not sure watching your builds was a good idea as I now to all my builds to look as good as yours but I don't think my Airfix starter sets are up to it. Can't wait to see the end result and happy modelling

      Hi Rick...no, I won't be Nats this weekend. A bummer as there are a lot of people (including yourself) that I'd like to say hello to. But, between my just returning from Netherlands and an upcoming trip to Germany...I needed to find time to do laundry!
