Understatement of the century when Terry says he feels like The Specials are an important group. I think that, as the world wakes up to the sad news of his passing, both my generation and the next will be reminded just how important they were, are and will long remain. Rest in peace.
Amazing comment. The man was a mensch.
Terry will forever be in my heart, as will Pete Mitchell, who we lost less than a year after this interview aired. Life is so precious and it's gone in the blink of an eye. Spend your time on this planet loving each other.
Been a fan since '79 I'm proud to say
1981, here, in Canada. A Coventry sound went global and changed the world.
Thinking of you..
This is the end ..rest in paradise Terry .19.12.22
RIP Terry Hall Fantastic frontman, singer
They created a unique British sound.
Captured a time I relive when I play their music. ❤
I’ve given my daughter their albums
And she saw them live
Another generation appreciating The Specials
These guys were way ahead of their time. Lyrically Terry Hall is a genius. During the Reagan period and Thatcher in the UK , The Specials were such a musical influence for me as a rock bassist to learn ska / reggae . Alas joining a ska band in Canada ,and becoming successful ourselves. Horace Panter is still a solid reggae bassist. Lynval Golding a true spokesman as well. RIP Brad .
Lyrically, TH barely wrote anything for The Specials the first time round... Jerry was the major songwriter followed by Roddy Radiation. Yes he was the face at the front but the Specials were about the sum of all 7 parts... not the same without it.
Hall wrote two songs for The Specials.
How can Hall be a lyrical genius when Jerry Dammers wrote 99% of the songs. And you failed to even mention Neville Staple who’s energy and stage presence made The Specials amazing to see live.
@kevinwalsh2513 Because Friday Night, Saturday Morning is the best lyric of any Specials song and was 100% Terry
"Wish I had lipstick on my shirt
Instead of piss stains on my shoes"
He also, unlike Jerry, had a career outwith The Specials where is lyrical brilliance shone (Waiting by Fun Boy Three.)
First time I've ever seen Terry speaking confidently. Great and rare interview.
Rip brother, taken far to soon, his music will live on forever and I thank Terry for all the wonderful memories of brilliant songs.
Big love. The most complicated part of my life was filled by the specials and I can't thank them enough. Would love to have a cuppa with them....
Yeah they’re definitely on the tea list.
Think Pete Mitchell did a really good interviewing job on this. I saw them with 2 mates last year in London. We've all been going to gigs for over 40 years and this was one of the best gigs we had ever been to. They are so tignt - actually managed to get better over time! Awesome live - do yourself a favour and go see them.
My dad loved them when he was in his 20’s seeing them and being a skinhead, and now I love them in my 20’s. Timeless and classic. RIP Terry.
Never got to hear this song back in the 70's in Boston... Well I'm hearing it now. Great guys, cool tunes
Not seen this til now. Great interviewer. RIP Pete x
The specials reach an apex that is unsurpassed. Politically intelligent...beautiful music.
Oh....the specials are like a soundtrack for me and my brothers lives. Mostly just for the things we thought about and cared about. Interraciality and love for our peers. The working class is always right. And to still care about others...like the specials music...is the right thing. And yes...I agree that Terry Hall is an artistic genius.
Much love to these gentlemen. Dave Wakeling was good to my band too. Did a short tour with him.
Terry 😞 Love you.

Read the obituary- Terry had severe mental depression, he was sexually abused as a child.
@Live Vides Terry Hall made millions of people smile...Do some research and you'll get a better insight!! Terry Hall gbnf ...legendary status.
It’s a disgrace how this government treats the Windrush generation.
