So satisfying to watch Weller being interviewed: so real and down to earth and yet such a poetic musical genius - a lovely guy. And what a heartwarming thing to put out there especially nowadays: be kind to each other.❤
I've always admired Paul Weller as a musician, I saw him play with the Jam in a nightclub in Brum before they were famous but that closing line in this interview of, "be kind to each other and patient" is the mark of a really decent guy. Thank-you Mr Weller. Respect.
The man was my youth. Either with The Jam or The Style Council and his solo output. Without doubt one of the greatest songwriters this country has ever produced...
A proper songsmith and hero of a generation who never rested on his past glories and has enlightened my life from the age of 14 , thank you Paul for gods sake
Top interview. Was at the gig in Vancouver and was a great gig. That was my 9th time watching Weller and he never fails to put on a show. So much energy and passion for his tunes.
@@sozzerz Surely your dad realises we can't be angry young men all our lives? We move on, become lovers, fathers even, then we reflect in old age, the anger now replaced by love.
I saw the Jam when I was in high school. I think it was 1982. Great concert. I have the Jam albums and the Style council albums from that time. Still listen to them Paul. Sounds like Paul had great parents. His dad booking gigs? How awesome is that. Support your kid's dreams.
oh, and can I add --- I used to pull pints in a pub in Fulham in 81, when The Jam walked like Gods, and their road manager John came back from their tour in Japan (and other islands) saying 'done me 'ead in, all they listened to the whole time was Revolver!' FACT.
+Keith Richards Going Underground...Down in the Tube Station We also spun Dexys Geno, Teardrop Explodes Reward.....and Jackson Browne! Behind Green Door on radio EVERY bleedin morning. .that and Bucks Fizz! Geno played a gig ne night...got photos of that. cheers
Fab interview. Wonderful insight into some of his inspirations. What comes across is that he is still a big music fan, and it was great to see his love for the Beatles, as well as other artists I have not heard of, which I will now check out. Can't understand why so many negative comments. OK, so he wasn't so keen on Liam Gallagher's new album but he knows the guy and said positive things about him. Paul Weller has consistently produced amazing work that inspires millions and is still doing so 40 years after his first record. Along the way he has changed bands and styles, and even if you don't like everything he has done you can't argue that he has great style.
That was a snide comment he made about the lyrics being substandard, he's obviously good buddies with NG, hence the brown-nosing...lucky enough to get a copy?
Paul Weller is a class apart everybody owes him big time for even saying his first album was sergeant peppers. How he went from one genre to another is even better. Mods rule even now. We all want to be one
the last guitar hero, i agree mate. And it's pointless commenting anywhere on the internet about anything coz some bollock will always get nasty over something or other. waste of time. Some tit will argue with what I've just said, betcha. . .
You are amazing. A musician who marked my life, but I can't forgive you for leaving The Jam to do things like The Style Council. Anyway, health and long life. Without you, my life would not have been so exciting. Thank you. You were the inspiration that drove my youth, as you say in The Modern World.
Ah, what can one say about "Tomorrow Never Knows?" There was never a song like it before, and no one has been able to replicate it since. Hendrix came the closest with "Are You Experienced?" Both songs contain the first backward guitar solos that I fell in love with. Paul's most definitely on the money with that one....it STILL sounds like the future!
My Dad used to laugh at me as an 11 year old in 1980 listening to the Jam, I bet he never thought that this guy would still be smashing out great music 44 years later. If you've never seen him live, do yourself a favour and put it on your bucket list🤟🤟

Top man. Healthy legacy, too. He has always been uncomfortable in front of cameras, slightly self-effacing or shy. I'd often wondered if it was genuine... I think it may be, judging by the way, over the course of the interview - and without realising it, he'd managed to cut his cheek with his long thumb nail, because of a fidgety nervousness. Cool man of pop/rock, indeed.
brilliant mr Weller , I'm Dennis , I was told you performed with our Tony Beet and The International Beat early 80's , care to shed some light.... BTW some unusual individuals comments on here.... only good shared with us guys...
Concerning Liam - Weller is Noel's mate, clearly, but he is always frank and honest about music - admits to ripping the Beatles himself (still). I think the sentiment is genuine - good for Liam, back in the game, nothing wrong with Beady Eye. About the lyrics, he is a song writer, so clearly this is a relevant detail for him and they weren't that strong on As You Were - Liam himself admits this "I'm not a song writer, I am a singer, a performer" - he said this all through the interviews for AYW so why are people getting upset about the comment? Noel was more offensive about AYW - he moaned about Liam's 'army of songwriters' which is complete bollocks. He seemed so miffed that AYW went to number one and Liam was welcomed back by the industry. He was jealous to death of him in the band... and nothing has changed.
I saw the Jam around 1987 here in NYC. What impressed me to this day was Paul's ability to play guitar and sing simultaneously so well. That might sound simple, and with basic phrasing in the same key it is. However Paul had an amazing handle on phrasing outside the same key he was playing. As a guitarist all my life, I know what that entails. The Jam were an exceptional band. Thank you Paul for adding a great catalogue of hard hitting, good time rockin'. Be well.
Ok I am pretty sure by 1982 The Jam had split up completely they were not on speaking terms after the split, and their final concert was in Brighton in 1982 and by 1987 he was in The Style Council.....
@@TechNoir-wz5ic You're correct. TY for clarifying. I see it was May 16, at Northstage (Glen Cove, NY) when I saw the Jam. Yes, I remember the Style Council as well. Paul had a great voice. Lost sight of the years. ; )
If you mean the song we used right before the interview (the live concert footage) that is White Rain from his Saturn's Pattern album. First song on the album.

'You do something to me' is one of the most sublime and finely crafted pieces of music, it just gets better every time I hear it.
He’s such a regular guy on the surface and underneath there’s such a mass of poetry, musicality and creativity. His output is constantly excellent.
*I love this man as he always appears real direct, honest all without sounding overly earnest. Clearly what you see is what you get with Mr. Weller.*

The word "legend" is attached to people's names far too easily these days; Mr Weller is one of the very few who thoroughly deserve the epithet.
Deep respect and admiration for Paul Weller. 🙏
First few bars of a town called malice and I'm back to 16 years old in 1982. So much has changed since then but when I hear those first few chords.
