- Ares 1-X was a prototype version of NASA's original Orion crew launch vehicle concept, involving a liquid-fueled upper stage on top of a Space Shuttle solid fuel booster. The 1-X was a proof of concept for the Ares-1 system using an inert dummy upper stage, however it was cancelled along with the rest of the Constellation program in 2010.

And it's all stock!!! (except maybe the launch pad but who cares)
That's just mind blowing!
thanks! would have done it stock but don't really have the motivation to do something that crazy at the moment
@@yukon09 Would that launch escape system have worked though? It looks too low-thrust with the vernier engines.
@@fork9001 yeah I know this is a late ass reply
but the las wouldn’t have worked at all because ares 1X had a dummy upper portion
this thing looked super badass. I Honestly think they should have painted the Ares I second stage tank white so it looked like this. Man what we lost when we cancelled constellation
The main issue with ares in my opinion: if the launch escape system initiated anywhere from 30s-60s after launch, it would kill all crew members, due to it being engulfed by the srb flame
True
There was also the pogo oscillations but that’s my opinion not yours!
Ares 1-X is under rated
True but it’s dangerous
@@Ungabunga93 Unfortunately
Amazing works!

Impressive!
Guess the payload was classified
What a beauty! The rocket itself if fully stock right?
yep!
Instant like
The funny thing is that it looks like a rocket from KSP itself lmao
Wow!
i love this
A great recreation of the greatest rocket to ever fly.
