It is also a term used in Christianity to indicate someone who is about to be baptised. Very fitting when you consider this is basically Ultima checking if Clive is worthy to be Mythos.
Fun fact: While "Katakekaumene" does indeed mean "Scorched Earth" in Greek, it is also a term used in Christianity to indicate someone who is about to be baptised. I think this second meaning fits the whole fight even more, considering this is the first time Ultima makes contact with Clive and is trying to check if he is worthy of being Mythos (by using Typhon, which was a failed Mythos). I love this game.
Neath the pall also plays for the first part where you are fighting the revenants which is also fitting considering ultima thinks this is the end of his journey for a vessel.
@@oh_sweet I always thought he was some kind of artificial creature like the Liquid Flame, but the Ultimania confirmed he is a failed Mythos who had the same power as Clive but couldn't control it.
This game is absolutely chock full of amazing songs and this one hands down is one of the best I've heard in any FF in the last 20 years, absolutely phenomenal, all of it is really. This soundtrack will stay with me forever just like the classic PS1 era FF's did, well, FF7 and FF8 anyway.
@@jamaledwards8118 not everyone is willing to deep dive into an mmo.... i love close in the distance as much as the next ff14 fan, but we are still sort of a minority in the greater FF fandom 😅
so, interesting thing about this song, is that as most who've played know, it's the first time we hear ultima's leitmotif. because of that it's otherworldly and menacing and alien. but, fast forward to the end of the game (*SPOILERS*) and the ultima risen fight, and ultima risen's theme is actually a redux of this theme, "clive's version" and the like. it follows the exact same rhythm and pattern(idk the word i'm not a musical expert), and even has the faint cheering of the crowd like this one does. it's now hopeful and bombastic, and that's because this is the theme for mythos, what clive is to ultima, and the other is the theme for logos, what clive becomes. just found that cool, thanks for coming to the TED talk
Actually the first time we hear Ultima’s theme is during Phoenix gate(prologue) when the hooded man appears. It appears again later during the scene where ultima is calling Clive to garudas vortex. Atleast one of Ultima’s letimotifs. Babel of savage screams(typhon reveal ost) is also an ultima letimotif.
No one gonna talk about the fact that Typhon hits you with a fucking dictionary half through the fight? Like I actually died because I tried to read this word what the hell 🤣
Square Enix has a policy of releasing their soundtracks on streaming services a year or two after the game's initial release, so it should be posted sometime this or next year!
Its theorized that Typhon was the prototype of Mythos that Ultima made way before Clive was born to be the vessel but thanks to the Ancients and there God killer Omega weapon this monster was defeated and sealed away forcing Ultima to wait until the perfect vessel was born
Or it just a monster crested by Ultima to test Clive's (or Mythos) strength to see if he is the perfect vessel. Same as the fire monster you fight at Drake's Breath when you take down Drake's Breath's Mother crystal. As Ultima creates it right there.
It reminded me of Witcher 3 a lot. Dark and gritty. Of course you had good heartful moments in between but overall, the world was turning into hell and you as the one trying to hold it back. I loved it, SE really went out of their comfort zone with this game and I support it 100%.
This alone is what made me vote for best music for the game awards

I can’t unsee this now 😂
Mfw I stub my toe on Ultima in the middle of the night

Fun fact :
Catacecaumene (Κατακεκαυμένη) means "Scorched land."
It's a really cool word but damn that pronunciation is rough
Greek here, thr pronunciation is "Katakekavmeni"
It is two words merged into one.
Thanks! Saved me from having to Google it. Now I just gotta try to pronounce it
It's said to have been where Zeus and Typhon fought in the myths. (The real-world version is a volcanic belt in western Turkey, hence the name.)
It is also a term used in Christianity to indicate someone who is about to be baptised.

Holy shit, Typhon's transformation with absorbing the other Typhons literally foreshadows Ultimalius
Spoilers my dude

Good point, I guess I'm just late to the party. Having fun so far though, so it's good to hear there's more to look forward to
Can't believe he got two more arms but still no legs
The theme's also a techno version of Hymn of the Penitent
Gives me FFX's Seymour's Theme vibes!
Same EXACT thing I said on another video 😂
The final battle with Seymour in particular to me

0:27 - 0:55 goes SO HARD!!!
I just realized Ultima's leitmotif is in Heart of Stone... sick
Eyes were glued to the screen at this part

Man I just got to this fight last night and when I heard this I’m like: “Oh snap, is this on Apple Music?” 😂
I’ll never not get sick of this song and that drop
Mix between FF and Like A Dragon battle themes ❤
The only two phases I play on arcade mode up until now are Phoenix Gate and this Drake's spine for the music
This is astonishing
I know orchestrated music for final fantasy games is unmatched but now im confident they can do it all. What a badass drop.
Killed him again on FF mode (where they also remove the QTE prompts), GOD this track is still one of my faves! The foreshadowing, too....
very upset i cant find this song on Spotify only metal versions
